3d Mark 2003
<div class="IPBDescription">lies...all lies...</div> Okay, I just got my new computer ( p4 2.4ghz, geforce 4 ti 4600, 512ram, 80 gigs 8mb buffer, etc) and the first thing I do is run 3dmark03...I got lower results on it than I did with my 800mhz AMD computer.....Did I just waste all of my 800dollars on this computer I made?
I got about 1 FPS on the CPU test with the Trolls....I got more with my 800mhz cpu! Arrgghh...
*cries* <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

I'm not. When I look at other people's scores on the net, I should be getting a lot higher score than what I get..... <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
I think there's some guides at www.tweaktown.com that tell you how to do all that kinda stuff. It should be in the 'winxp: from reformat to rest' or something like that =P
<b>Edit:</b> <a href='http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dId=324&dType=guide' target='_blank'>Think it's in here somewhere</a>
I believe Tally has the problem pinned down here.
Wrong GeForce, I think... If you're thinking of the 5900, maybe, but the Ti4600 is nowhere near a 9800 Pro.
Anyway, since the GF4's are DX8 cards, they don't do to great in 3DMark03. I can't remember what my score was. I've got a GF4 Ti4400.
I installed the VIA updates (my motherboard is a VIA chipset) and then I restarted. I ran 3dmark 2003 and my score was a whole whopping, <span style='color:red'><span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'>700</span></span>....Now what the hell is up with my computer?
What version of directx do you use? I'm using 9.0 and for some reason, I think that could be why mine sucks....

I just updated Direct X to 9.0b prior to running the test. The Nvidia drivers I used on the test was version 43.45.
I ran 2 additional tests; with the Nvidia drivers at 45.23, I obtained 1584, and with some unofficial 51.?? drivers, I got 1572... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
[edit]Could it be that your sound tests dropped the average by almost 500 points? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> [/edit]
AMD Athlon Xp 2000+
512MB 133 DRR Ram
Geforce 4 Ti 4600
And if I recall correctly, I managed to get a score of near 2000, which at the time, I thought was pathetic. The 5900/9800 can get scores of 7000+ Or something I think, so it seems about right (hey, its a DX 8 card O_o).
I may be completely wrong here; I will do a check later.
Regardless of the fact that its a dx9 test, he's getting really low scores for a powerful machine. I'm surprised the via drivers made the scores worse... Mullet, can you save your results on the futuremark.com site and link us to them so I can see your settings/driver versions/hardware setup?
I got 1500 on 1.3/512SDR/G4Ti4200.

A good machine will not compensate for a mid-low end video card (by today's standards). ESPECIALLY on a benchmark specifically geared toward stressing the video card.
Additionally (not to turn this into a video card debate... again), the 5900 is *technically* not a DX9 part. They do not have Pixel Shader 2.0 support... just a kludged version of 'PS1.4' that they take PS2.0 stuff, emulate down in the drivers, and limp along with. Additionally, when running the SAME code (as in, standard non-optimized OpenGL or D3D) the R9800 Pro blows the FX5900 Ultra out of the water. The 5900 has to cut down its precision to 16 or 12-bit to keep up, which the newest drivers will force in certain applications (*coughhalflife2anddoom3cough*) based upon EXE name to get the framerate up. When operating at full 24-bit precision, they get utterly *smoked*. And in FSAA and anisotropic filtering... well, there's already no question that the Radeon is prettier, with less FPS hit. (The 4x AA mode on a Radeon is roughly equal to the top-quality on a GFFX. The 6x mode on a Radeon has no equal on an FX)

Can't...I'd need a a serial number for it....i tried using my cousins serial but it dosnt work.... <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
BTW: I went into bios and read thru the manual again to make sure everything was okay...I did change some stuff tho.
I made my sdram frequency 133 instead of 100....Thats all <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> Oh yeah, my video card (geforce 4 ti 4600) is a 128mb video card, it's set at 64mb and the manual said to leave it at that....Would going from 64mb to 128mb increase my score by much?
There are quite a bit of settings in bios that are set lower than they could be.....
I mainly used that tweakguide thingy I linked to to get my PC running super smooth <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Okay now I've just had enough. I'm giving this computer to my sister. Thanks everyone.

SDRAM?! oh.... that'll do it. Didn't know you could use SDRAM with p4's. I think you want some rambus/DDR to help those scores.

Are you my long lost twin?
I had a 800MHz computer also.
I now have the exact same new computer as you also.
I have better ram PC2100
I hate 3D mark also! my 800 use to get god-aweful marks!
I haven't tested my new comp yet. But in games I get sexy GFX and speed now that use to lag me to hell!
I also solved my LAG spike problem. It was the PCI ethernet card I was using, I switched to the intergrated 10/100 that came with the MB and things are back to normal. 80-100 FPS and pings in the 40s.. YEAH!!!
