I think it's quite clear that all American NS clans hack. I've been in 4 and I hax so much it isn't funny. CD sucks cause it finds my hacks and then how am I supposed to win?!
Actually - CD screws up aspects of the game ( its proven! ) and I prefer to play vanilla NS. Besides, why would anyone in a clan hack? It's easy to spot and with steam coming up, hacks will be a thing of the past. So yeah, if you're going to think everyone hacks, then fine - use it. But I avoid it at all costs.
I mean, you can't have it on during CAL, so what is the point?

Now, on with the meat of your post:
"CD screws up aspects of the game (its proven!)" I'd just like to point out that if software is written correctly and you are using it on a compatible machine, the only way for something to screw up is user error. Assuming that Cheating Death is written correctly and you are using it correctly, perhaps there is some sort of compatibility issue with your machine? Refer to Cheating Death's website and your computer documentation and I'm 100% positive that a remedy for your problem exists. I'd also like to point out that right now Steam screws up parts of NS, but its only a mere compatibility issue that can be fixed.
"why would anyone in a clan hack?" That is a horribly naive question. Why does anybody do something that the rest of us perceive to be wrong? Why do Olympic athletes take performance enhancing drugs? Why was Sammy Sosa using a corked bat? I don't think we have the capabalities to answer that on these forums, and if we did, we'd have the greatest philosopher ever in our midst. My personal answer to the question would be: Because they are tempted by being the best.
"Its easy to spot and with steam coming up, hacks will be a thing of the past." This is quite naive as well. While hacks such as speed, aim bots, etc may give us easily identifiable visual cues, others like wall hacks, ESP etc don't really give us much to work with. Steam isn't the end-all solution to anti-cheat. The online community needs to remain vigilant. Leaving anti-cheat in the hands of programmers sitting in the bowels of Valve’s offices doesn't seem that appealing to me. The educated have always realized that we can't just sit back and let others do a half-job. If you want a system that works, you have to do some hard work to make it a reality.
Steam is certainly going to stop the types of folks that don't know what an if statement is. These guys just download a hack written by somebody else and use it. Folks that know how to program will find ways around Steam's methods. This is and will always be the case.
"if you're going to think everyone hacks" Use of CD doesn't indicate that you're an undereducated heathen who flings hacking accusations at everybody. That’s just a flawed stereotype.
"you can't have it on during CAL, so what is the point?" I'd like to direct you to a recent CAL poll were about 70% of respondents voted that they'd prefer some sort of anti-cheat system to be implemented in CAL. Once I find the exact results from the CAL admins, I'll be sure to post them here for your enjoyment.
