While the GC is good, all the games are aimed at kiddies, so i'll have to say the XBox

Death to consoles! All must die! BURN!!!!

After playing Halo PC I honestly can't see what all the fuss was about. It's a fairly boring, repeditive game with substandard enemies and all-to-similar levels. The vehicle parts were fun though. If this is the height of console FPS then I feel sorry for consolers.

Gamecube ! It clearly has the best games, while X-box gets stuck with Halo 2 ( soon), some other crappy exclusives, and a bunch of games ported or going to be ported to the ps2.

I agree, the Co-Op stuff was great fun if you had someone who
could simply point their gun in the right direction. It was easy to
get into, and if you got bored you can have a great time setting off strings
of grenades. (We once got 14 frag grenades and 8 Plasma grenades
under a Warthog and set them all off with a rocket launcher. We completely
lost track of where the Warthog landed due to the blast. Pause Game >
Revert To Saved > Repeat Explosion)
I have both an X-Box and GameCube sitting under my t.v, to be honest
the X-Box does get played more than the Cube due to Knights Of The Old
Republic.

Have to agree that the GC games are geared mostly torwards kiddies, what with one of the few games I've enjoyed so far being the resident evil rehash. I'd probably say x-box

If you guys didn't enjoy HALO....see a doctor. it was easily the most gripping, fun game that I've played in the last year (and yes - I stick by this statement two years after its release). Play it for a bit longer - you'll realize the incredibly minute detail that was put into the game (such as application of the speed of sound and uber-realistic physics). Couple these things with a high challenge, imaginative levels and vehicles, great enemy AI (on the higher difficulties), and you have a game that the Xbox simply does not deserve. Despite the massive unwarranted complaining about "recycled levels" and rooms, I did not truly notice or care about this. It really isn't a problem. Give it a chance and you'll be pleasantly surprised and engrossed. I know I sure as hell am.

Yes, that's how great it is. now go play HALO.

Now to the topic at hand - I love the Gamecube more, but the Xbox simply has the titles (namely HALO ). Since I bought an Xbox in December of '01 for the sake of playing HALO, I'm most likely not gonna get a GC. I'll probably jump on the next-gen Nintendo console, however

Halo was fun, no denying it, but if thats the pinnacle of FPS then I am sorely disappointed. Co-op rocked, vehicles were interesting, storyline entertaining, but nothing completely and utterly revoltionairy in terms of FPS.

I know it can do better, and hopefully Halo 2 will be the realisation of this. Still, if you like FPS then you really cant go past the X-box, unless you have a decent pc. Then take the pc anyday.

You deserve a medal, Halo was fun, but it certainly was over-hyped.

Xbox has SplinterCell, which is a blast!!!

But what I really hated was on the console conversions of Ghost Recon, they soooooooo murdered it. It's sooo easy on console. It's much harder on the PC version.

BIS is porting Operation: Flashpoint, one of my favorite games, to Xbox and I'm praying that it doesn't suck.

Hmm.. I'm amazed that no one has made the argument "Xbox is too stinking big!" Who cares if it is big. IF you are toting a game console around on vacation, I seriously pity you!

PC is still my favorite gaming rig!

If I had too chose between the two, I'd look at them in terms of games they have that are never going to be on the PC, and it's no challenge: Gamecube. F-Zero GX, Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, and Clone Wars. Lucasarts loves t3h Gaemcoob when it comes to Star Wars games.

I won't put the x-box down for the fact it's a giant hunk of plastic with controllers designed for giants... I also won't put the x-box down for having a mass of titles that are available on other platforms such as the other 2 consoles or PC. Its got a few cool games of it's own that I wouldn't mind (I hear DoA:X Volleyball is actually pretty fun to play, so people who aren't out to stare at silicon silicon can enjoy it too =3 ).

In the end though, I've got a GC. Why? Bomberman Generations, Smash Bros Melee, Soul Calibur 2 with link (though spawn's pretty cool too), Metroid Prime, Pikman, the RE series (including the exclusive 0 ), Ikaruga (oldskool!!! XD ), monkeyballs 1 & 2, Zelda, Marioparty 4 and soon to be added; f-zero and viewtiful joe =D
who knows... I might end up buying the devil machine (PS2) someday too... it's my least favourite console in the world and the only thing I've ever played that gives me odd hand-cramps but it's got Guilty Gear XXX on it

as for the x-box? if I see a cool MMO adventure game with good voice comms and stuff I'll think about it =P

True.

Anyway, who cares if the games are "Kiddie?" Who cares, most of the Classics are Kiddie, Super Mario Brothers, Ballon Fight, The Legend of Zelda. I'm talking NES. Kiddie games are fun, and if you're going to try and be cool by playing the very few entertaining realistic X-Box games, be it. Halo's fun, but when you get to the inside parts, it's just a copy and paste of the room before it. Nice controller design too! Oh, and what's with the small extension cord that the controllers come with? So if you lose that, and you easily can, you have to buy a whole new controller? Awesome.

As for X-box vs GC, remember that while there are many factors favouring the Gamecube, the X-box can easily house a family of four, although the controller needs a forklift to pick up.

Not that the X-box is chunky at all...

I don't get it: the X-Box controller fits perfectly in my hands; I like it better then the new one that's smaller. I mean, I don't have big hands or anything. I'd still rather buy a GC, though.

I'd like to start off by saying that the Xbox isn't that heavy. It's really not. If you've ever lifted one, and it was heavy to you....freaking work out . And about the controllers. I know a midgety 13 year old who likes the old Xbox controllers over the Controller-S. I myself also prefer the original controller, and no, I'm not a giant (unless you consider 5'9" huge). I'd also like to point out that, while the PS2 controller is decently comfortable it's exceptionally small...I can press the L1 and L2 buttons with my right hand on those...guess they're for amputees.

I'd also like to point out here that the Xbox is slighty larger than a VCR, and thus fits in most places a VCR is meant to go. Lets you set up your system in more varied configurations, as opposed to the Game Cube, which is about twice as tall as a VCR, and thus had to sit where my stereo ...is supposed to go if I had one.

Graphics go like so:
Xbox
Gamecube
PS2

Games:
Xbox:
Halo (especially over Xbox connect)
Splinter Cell
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (is awesome)
Ghost Recon with Xbox Live
...bah, I can't remember any more at the moment...brain fart.
...I'd also like to note that DoA:XBV should not be considered a volleyball game. It's a relationship/collection game...with a crappy casino thrown in for kicks. Volleyball: 2.0 rating; collection, relationship and pool-minigame: 8.4. (my ratings )

Gamecube:
Resident Evil
...that one, where it's all weird, and you're losing your sanity or something...what's it called...bah
Metroid Prime
Zelda...but they've been downhill since the SNES
...never played it, but smash bros is supposed to be good too.

Xbox Games to come (because I don't own a gamecube and keep up to date on it's games, but I know the Xbox ones).

Fable
Rainbow Six 3
Halo 2 (looks far better than the first one, which was very fun)
BC (...in like 6 years)
Morrowind: GOTY editon ...woot for expansion (I think W00t for expansions should be part of the name )
Full Spectrum Warrior looks nice too

Halo:
First, the Xbox will have Halo 2; second: Don't bash Halo on repetitive levels. The only really bad one is the Library, which after playing through it once, on easy or something, you never have to touch AGAIN (although it is fun to go through as 'Arcade Halo' where all you do is shoot). You should judge a game First and Foremost on whether or not it's fun. Halo is exceptionally fun, especially co-op. Which is what made Halo what it is.

If you got bored in the single player campaign, you just gun down your buddy, and then you can revert to last check point and start shooting at eachother over and over. Or you can try to blow a Warthog into him with a rocket and a couple of grenades. You can go Warthog ramming on the Silent Cartographer....In fact, the Silent Cartographer (god, that level name is a pain to write) is one of the best co-op levels.

You can complete it normally. (if you've ever played it you'd know the next part) You can attempt to get past the Elite when you first enter the building, it is possible...Very hard. Makes the level about 8 minutes long. You can go out into the water with Warthogs, get out, and then try and shoot your buddy. Since it's so cloudy and hard to see it's awesome. So are grenades. You can gun down a few marines at the beginning and have a "the Master Chiefs own the Marines...usally" scenario...those are great...when they start fighting back is the best. You can also play with the hunters by the buildings entrance...you can have them knock you ontop of the big doorway; or have them leap off the edge when they try to smack you. You can.....err, maybe I should stop...needless to say, it's extremely fun.

Has nothing to do with the repetitiveness of the levels. Usually we just play SC, Assault on the Control, Two Betrayals (the last to are basically night and day switches, and with banshees, but fun BOTH ways) Room or the first level. If you kill Keyes in the first level invincible marines come to attack you, and you can hang out in the little glass bubble the pilots sit in. Pop up and run around and see how long you last (on legendary you can go to the mess hall and get a few grenades first).

My vote's with Xbox, for Halo and SW:KOTOR alone...Not to mention the other games. Buy it for Halo, keep it for the cool stuff that came next. Ohh, and Kung Fu Chaos is cool because the language in the game is the same your Xbox is set to. It's good with 4 people too. I recommend renting, but not buying, it.

Well, I had read a while back, on Tales of the Gord, that the Game Cube is underpowered compared to the other consoles on the market, and that given enough time a Playstation developer could build a far better looking game than the game cube would even be possible of.

The Game Cube's very slim advantage lies in the fact that they have well known titles, and had dominated the market two generations ago. Which lead to quite a bit of brand loyalty.

Most of the fan's have died down though, and Nintendo is starting to realize they need titles out there, like they had with the SNES.

X-Box is supposed to be the most powerful system out there, but it is effectivly a computer. It's size is vastly overstated though... I've head claim that they're actually the same size as a PS2... but having neither of those systems at the moment, I can't say wether it's true or not.

In the end, I've got to say, I have a cude, not an X-Box. But I want to own all the systems out there... so, brand loyalty from me only bought them a first of the generation.

Having played all three major consoles, and owning a PS2, i find this hard to decide. The Xbox certainly has the power, but being a PC owner, the games just don't interest me. Halo is soon to be out on PC (or already is) which i can see to be the only Xbox-only game worth anything (Dispite the fact i hate it). Games like Splinter Cell and so on are available on PC so i don't see it worth the money buying an Xbox. The Gamecube on the other hand has lots of exclusive titles that you won't find anywhere else, it's just a shame that, barring Zelda in my opinion, they all suck badly. But i must admit that even i'm tempted to get a Gamecube of my own for the new Final Fantasy coming along. Also, i have a hatred of the Xbox's old controller, admittedly i've not used the new one, but playing games like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 was a chore due to the badly designed controller. The Gamecube on the other hand, dispite looking really cheap, has one of the best controllers i've ever had the pleasure to use, it fits in your hands perfectly and the buttons are excellently laid out.

So my opinion, in short, on both consoles is this:

Xbox:
Powerful console, but any game worth getting on it is out on PC, and better on PC also (Splinter Cell, Morrowind, etc).

Gamecube:
Too many bad titles, but when the games are good, they're really good, i know someone who bought one just for Zelda.

And my final recommendation, get a PS2 if you don't already have one.

I'm all for reading Esuna's excellent posts. Hooray for Esuna's generally good points.

Although, I have to disagree with the buying of a PS2, I had one. All I ever played was GTA:VC, and I only owned 2 games. Now that the Xbox will (in 2 years...) have the GTA's, and Driver 3 coming out next year, I don't think selling a game I never played will really matter.

Sudeki is coming to the Xbox, it looks extremely fun.

The problem is, I haven't seen to many promising games for the next 6 months for anything but the Xbox. Although, I would like to eventually get a GameCube...if just for Resident Evil alone. I have RE1, RE2, RE3 and RE:CV...so hey, I want to play 0 and the rebuilt 1st one to completion . Prime was also fun, so I would get that.

I still enjoy my current Xbox collection:

Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance
Dynasty Warriors 4
Gauntlet Dark Legacy (only with 4 people)
Halo
Hunter the Reckoning (not all that great, again, VERY fun with 4 people...very hard too)
Max Payne (i miss my level editor...)
Morrowind (RPG's aren't very fun on computers to me. It's excellent as a console game. Curl up in your blanket, and try to become a vampire...strange thing is, I created like 4 guys, and then the first girl I created I beat the game with, bah...I'm weird - one of the main quest people only respondds if you're female, I learned, otherwise you have to kill her...never got that far with the guys anyway)
Splinter Cell (a lot easier to control on my Xbox for me..except maybe shooting, but I've got awesome Halo aim, so my Splinter Cell Aim is awesome too)
Starfighter Special Edition (sucks....bad present, lol)

I recommend buying Half-Life 2 before either system though . And then buy the system tailored to what games you want to play: Realistic, shooters, sports or other various: Xbox; Kiddie, imaginative or redone classics and stuff: GameCube.

No offence liger but it seems tales of the gord don't know crud.

The hardware on the GC far outstrips the PS2 as the Xbox outstrips the GC; the PS2 is the oldest and slowest no matter what the developers do to it. heck, they've already had to hack the hardware to get things looking as good as MGS2 (there wasn't anywhere near enough texture memory so they borrowed it from elsewhere )
