I have to say this: 2.x is much better as a game, competitively and balance-wise.
1.x is much more fun to play, and forces more teamwork (which made it much more fun in many situations than 2.x). People got to know each other more as they had to work to win (at least on the alien team)

what i still miss from 1.04 is the great feeling after killing the marines w/o that turtleing...

HECK!
I ate the whole (living) Marine team @ the cargohive 25 seconds after i joined the aliens!
(and my team had aten the base after i got killed by a turret <- note, no n!)

this was the greatest game i ever played

one word: Babblers.

I loved those things good thing for a gorge to have when he has no backup, also a nice thing to keep an HA busy with until he dies, or he kills you ,whatever comes first.

1.x literally forced aliens to work as a team, and the dedicated gorge was an awful lot of fun.

After 2.0 everyone realised Marines needed a lot of teamwork (and possibly divine intervention) to win wheras aliens could basically just run around in circles and still be assured victory. Unfortunately that attitude kind of stuck and even though I see excellent teamwork on Marines nowadays, Aliens are somewhat lacking. I think the ease of 2.0 and the lack of a dedicated gorge are to blame.

Anyway, the thing I miss is having a lot of overflow as gorge and being able to drop a crazy amount of chambers

1.04 with the 1.05 mods was more fun, imo, than 2.0 could ever hope to be :/

It brought JP to "managable" for the public casuals to counter, It disuaded spawn camping.... In all honesty the only thing i prefer about 2.0 over 1.0 is the model animations, a sidestepping skulk actually sidesteps, instead of looking like its running forwards all the time, and the hitbox fixes (whitch are still screwed btw )

I miss the old res system, I miss the old hive dependancies, I miss the (overpowered probably) lerk, I take no pleasure in a win anymore, as after the 5 minute mark, the game is pretty much decided. I miss the way that a Lvl 1/1 LA/LMG was = to a fade with regen where Lvl3/3 LA/LMG was = to a fade with carapace (i know your going to disagree on this one... just a feeling, but trust me on it :/)

I find all this piercing damage nonsense, alien "buildings" are lifeforms also. I find Turrets completely pointless, as even one skulk can take on a 7 - 8 turreted area and take them down one by one. OCs are slightly better, but mainly because marines are scared to give the industious gorge rfk, which brings me to my next note, RFK is the big imbalance factor for both teams, promoting skilled players, new players dont stand a chance to really learn the game, when getting killed a few times results in a Fade, or on the other hand HA.

Most of the new maps are bias to one side or another:- Mineshaft has a huge alien bias, as does lost, both have VERY bad marine starts, mineshaft being the lesser evil, as if you can relocate to the bit between tram tunnel and refinary then you have access to a tripple res.

Veil and origin are very marine bias with their unfriendly to onos hives (veil's problem being invisible brushes dotted about pipeline, and origins well... lifts to bio, one viable onos exit to vent... and same for furnace) and huge open spaces.

I miss the old caged, and its good marine start and interesting freight elevator dbl res, I miss the doors on tanith and eclipse... but most of all.. i miss the old guys, that because of the big changes in 2.0, left NS completely (they didnt like the res system, the new maps, the remade old maps)

AND doenst lerk feel wierd now.. like its lighter (you may not remember, i do as i play "1.05" quite often)

I loved being able to get a rine-skin as a skulk, that was so fun but that was the first version of NS i think

Yeah, the onos was impossibly tough to kill back in 1.04...

Carapace gave it nearly 2 times as much life ROFL.

Ya frame rate dependancy was a real drag for people who couldn't afford a new video card. Much like the unfair advantage that people with cable/dsl connections over 56k users. Its not fair that some people can't compete because they can't afford a decent connection. I think they should take out connection dependancy in 2.1 and make everyone ping 800.

</sarcasm>

I suppose next you'll want the +jump command taken out because your space bar is broken. (wait, does this count as sarcasm too?)

veils main problem is every corridor is very long open and very little cover for skulks, a skulk can hardly move around the map without getting slaughtered by a marine with a pistol miles away!
