[genericrantaboutanimediscussions] It often seems to me that people arguing about whether Anime is good or not forget that they could just as well be talking about books being good or bad. We're talking about one of the biggest Japanese media phenomenons covering over all ages and interests here, after all. I for mine can only say that there is some Anime that makes me doubt the existence of god, but that there's also some stuff I couldn't live without.[/genericrantaboutanimediscussions]
Anyway, here's my list (not differentiating between series, OVAs, and movies, or comics, for that matter):
5.: NGE 4.: The first four Kenshin OVAs 3.: Serial Experiments LAIN (yes, I am a weirdo) 2.: The Akira manga. Must... Forget... The anime... 1.: Cowboy Bebop
i dunno if half of these count, but in no order The Ghost in the Shell Blue Submarine 6 Gundam Wing Tenchi... SM until my brother switches over

And Ashitaka didn't have DBZ at the top of his list, it was #5...
As for me: 1. Cowboy Bebop 2. InuYasha 3. Tenchi 4. Yuyu Hakasho 5. Outlaw Star I have the first DVD of BubbleGum Crisis (newer) and I really like it. And of COURSE: Fushi Yugi's Mysterious Play. Seen 25ish episodes, dearly wish for more =P
Movies: Cowboy Bebop - tres spiffy =EDIT= How could i forget Princess Mononoke! I rented it twice when it came out then later bought it. Vampire Hunter D (alas, I have not seen bloodlust...) Tenchi Movie - little more serious than the series, just as good. Armitage the Third/Dual Matrix - both were all right, not that special although I own them both (silly me)
Comments
5. Akira (just because it introduced many of us to the art form in the first place)
4. Vampire Hunter D (it's almost like noir) & Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
3. Princess Mononoke (beyond words...even the US dubbing is good)
2. Ghost in the Shell (yes, you have to pay attention...it's worth it)
1. Blood: The Last Vampire (the art direction is...just see it)
-Ryan!
It is as natural to man to die as to be born; and to a little infant, perhaps, the one is as painful as the other.
