<div class="IPBDescription">No more comm for me.</div> There is no real incentive to comm anymore, or learn how to. If any mistake is made, if your soldiers don't go anywhere, if you make one mistake....you're a noob. Is there a mystical land where people can learn to comm, or are people just born with the knowledge and everyone else just a noob and forever will be deemed idiots?

If they kick you out of the chair..big deal..do it again later and crash the server in a rage of mandess. (lol random rant)
I don't moan at a poor comm but I do feel annoyed if they step into the chair to comm again in the same session without asking.
I've personally givin up comming any team I don't know personally for the reason that they don't listenor they get killed all the time even if i spam health alittle too.
All I have to say.. Is that if you know the map and have seen every seige spot possible during these maps then go comm. YOU have to tell them what to do and besides that... I've started to yell at some of the people that arn't doing what you tell them to do.. then after i get yelling i just grab a shotty out of the comm chair sometimes and just sit in base with no one comm with a shotty and just camp my base till an onos comes and eats my wondering team.
The comm does something really stupid in the eyes of the footsoldiers.
Now how to prevent that?
1. If or better yet, When your soldiers ask for something, if it beeing something usefull or somehow you see why it might be a good thing to give him/her what he/she asked for. Give it to him/her.
2. No matter how crappy your RT situation is, keep upgrading. Theres nothing else that the soldiers wouldnt love than upgrades.
3. Do not and do not use all your start resources to turrets. Its highly frowned upon.
4. When higher lifeforms come into play, give your soldiers mines/shotguns/hmgs.
You can always tell your soldiers to do stuff, theres always some part of the team which does what you ask.
Im not part of that group, I normally go around and either take alien rts down or wait for the comm to drop RT's to the places i have sneaked to.
No one, and i must repeat, no one bursts at the comm without a cause. Theres always some thing that annoys people and then they start yelling at you. Ofcourse there are times when the reasons are crappy as hell, but there is mostly a valid reason which shouldnt be frowned upon. So i guess my advice is to think like a footsoldier when your comming, what action should benefit your soldiers the most.
The other thing I can recommend, is play on games with 4-8 people, it gives you a chance to play comm without the pressure of having to look 12 places on the map at once. You can take a little more time.
The other thing that cuts down on the insults is to tell people that "I'll comm but I'm still learning" It sets marine expectations and the amount of name calling is reduced.
As far as "it isn't up to the comm to win games. If you don't have good or even decent marines at all then you will lose." goes, a really bad group of marines can cost you a game BUT... a good commander can adjust for bad marines and can sometimes pull a win out of the fire with a bad marine team. It requires more fortification(elec TF and T's around Res nodes), more sneaking tactics (put one or two marines outside of their hive and build a seige outpost and then do a frontal assault on their second hive) but it can be done, the commander is the glue that holds teams together....A good commander can take a group of marines who have never played before and turn them into a cohesive unit, a great commander can take that same group and lead them to victory.
A side note from 3.0 testing.. With the hitboxes fixed, skulks are a little easier for guys with bad aim to deal with if they play smart (stay down long hallways, move in groups etc) and fade/onos are hittable and not "game-ending" as much....

So give the rambo's toys??? When we are losing a vital position at miasma, and you are standing in PowerSilo waiting for an RT, I should just give it to you? (Never mind the fact that the RT you just built will fall as soon as one skulk comes by)
And then give you a SG when you respawn, because you ask for it??
And if I choose not to, prepare to be called a "noob" even though I've managed to hold miasma (without your help) and am expanding towards Cargo bay with the other marines??
I'm sorry, the comm has the view of the total map, and you rambo'ing off waiting for RT's on the other side of the map, you are easily more expendable then the posiiton I'm trying to save, so don't expect anything from me... It's a nice bonus you are taking out enemy RT's, but if you die, then the res spent on the 2-3 rt's that you built.. IS GONE.... so why would I?? 2 skulks hearing their res is under attack will come and will kill you and then.. we are out the res from those RT's..
No thanks..
It's times like this, I wish I had a eject player command, so I could flush whining rambos back to the RR...
And btw, zunni, I often try to tell them I'm new, but that only gets them revving up their eject buttons fast.
I've actually had a game where a comm got ejected three times. Seems wierd to me...
I never whinge in that instance - I do offer occasional advise (more ip's, I'm available for drop rt here etc). it winds me up to see the marine team moan about the poor comm when no other bugger wanted to take that role.
Yeah, I had to stop comming for a while too, and I still don't do it as much as I used to. For a while, it seemed like my skill was going down instead of up. And people just wouldn't stop whining at me, they never do until they've commed.
But you'll come back.
A few weeks, maybe a couple months from now, you and the other guys are on the server you always go to. The 'rines are 0-5, and you lost the last one because nobody took the chair for the first minute-and-thirty. Thirty seconds into the current game, it's looking like a repeat.
"The hell with this," you say to yourself.
That's when you take the chair. And you WIN. You win because your guys are desparate. They're tired of getting owned, and they hang on your every word. They dare not question your tactics for a moment, because all their plans this night have sucked. You're at the top of your game, laying medspams, conducting sieges, handing out the heavy. You're playing better than ever before. And you win. It's like you never left the chair at all. You were born in this can.
I love this game.

Then it sounds like perhaps you need to find another server or two. Any marine team that knows the comm is new, should either offer to comm, or keep their mouths shut and let you learn..
I try to encourage my comm in EVERY Game I play, and will always tell the comm after a loss "Nice Try" and am the first to offer up a "Good Job Comm" if we win..
So all I can suggest is keep trying, I commed my first 6 v 6 win the other day and it was the most satisfying feeling in the world, and I've lost Many games and been called many names in all my losses.
But my first win came 3 on 2, start with that.. it helps you learn seige distances, where to place your troops to not be seen and exactly what hallways are travelled and which ones aren't.
1. Get Rescource Nodes Early.
You NEED those RPs. Make sure you take every opertunity to claim both open nodes, and the capture of enemy nodes. I also say paying for electricity is a good idea - because it keeps skulks off them, at least until hive two.
2. Allways be doing somthing.
Don't ever be sitting around in MS doing nothing. If there are still open nodes out there, claim them. If there are alien nodes, wreck them. Having trouble because of an alien hive? Take the fight to them.
3. Listen to your marines.
If a marine or group of marines are protecting a vital location, you better dang well drop them medpacks and ammo when they need it. Similarly, if you are going to attack a hive, and one of your marines has been injured, heal him. That one extra bite can make a world of diffrence. If possible, also give one marine a welder to heal the armor of others, especally if you have level 1 or above.
4. Be commanding and set mission objectives
This may seem a little nazi-esque, but I find if you use the voice com, use it often, and make sure the marines know what your master plan is, they will follow it even if you aren't personally giving them waypoints. A good command to give at the start is either "Move in small groups and find empty nodes" or "Move in small groups (move solo) and find enemy gorges (RTs)".
Your not alone man, you are certainly not alone. Although it seems like everyone you hear about is a godlike comm, that is not true at all. Those that are excellent comms have played enough to be excellent comms, and others, like myself are just as bad as you proclaim yourself to be.

I actually find this rather fitting to what I could do with a headset, once I get one. What kind do you use, red?
By the way, thank you for posting on here. That goes to all of you.
"marines are only as good as their comm...and the comm is only as good as his marines..."
so if your marines dont understand the game, don't go thinking it's because you are a crap comm....
and zombieninjadoomlaserbaby, getting a regular friendly server helps - they know what kinda comm you are and what you want, and will do it if you jump in chair...
Here are the voice com headphones that were recomended:>
Plantronics DSP-500's
Plantronics Audio .90's > I brought these and am v.happy with them
Cyber acoustics AC-644's > (not available in the UK)
Sennheiser pc150's
I can feel the LOVE!!!!!
The thing is to prepare yourself for commanding. Know the map by heart before you try to command, and try to command a LAN game by yourself (just to see the map from above -- big difference). See what other successfull commanders do, and try to mimic it at first. Then ask yourself "What are the strong points of that? And why? When does he do it? What is the alien reaction to it?" etc. Try to analyze, then try out for yourself.

lol, back off jerk.
As i said, IF you see it being a good idea. See the IF word? That means the COMM has the final word. If he thinks he doesnt see any good reason, them by all means. Dont give them nothing.
Anyhows, seems that i have to explaing abit how i rambo. Cause when i do, i do not ask for RT's near alien strongholds. I ask for medpacks/ammo, and again IF i need them. Thats majorly the 1 thing i want to see the comm doing, and being quick about. Giving ammo/medpacks, without spamming too much. But giving a few when asked for.
Thats the about one reason i dont like recent comm's i have seen on pub's i'v visited. They lack to understand that sacrificing that 2-4 res for med/ammo when asked for, could have saved a key-location or better yet a PG/TF near alien hive. Or giving a shotgun/mines to base when the first fade encouter had came might have saved the entire game at that point.
Just cause you think you know how i might play. Doesnt give you the right to judge people by your worser experiences with other people. Everyone's different.
