Gahhhh Xbox Or Not?!

<div class="IPBDescription">Help me decide pleeeeease!!!</div> Recently my friends have decided to buy Xboxes... This made me think, hmmmmmmm... I would like something new... But £129 for an XBOX, I don't know??? I was at my friend's house the other day and he had bought a Dreamcast and a load of games, so we decided to play Tony Hawks 2. I remembered how much fun it was (I have enjoyed 1 (PS + DC), 2 (PS + DC), 3 (PC + PS2) and 4 (only played this a little bit on my friend's PS2).

I came home and wanted to play Tony Hawks 3 on my PC, but my Sidewinder wasn't working because of my new soundcard (I need a windows CD to get it working). Anyway, I was watching TV and a Tony Hawks Underground advert for the XBOX came on and I went <img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'>... must buy XBOX (as you do).

I'm not sure what games are coming out for the XBOX and if I'd enjoy any. Also, I'll be spending around £1,000 around April time for a HL2 machine. I could do with the money, but I could probably get away with buying one.

What do you think? I've seen a decent offer and <a href='http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0489658198.1072145289@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccceadckddedghfcflgceggdhhmdfhm.0&page=Product&sku=155866&category_oid=-13159' target='_blank'>this</a> would probably be the one I'd go for.

Personally, i'd advise against. Have a long, serious look at the games that are out right now and ask yourself if you feel there's enough good ones to justify buying the console.

I don't feel you can justify buying a console for a single game, it's a stupid idea, to be honest. Besides, if he's going to be buying a gaming rig to play HL2, he can always pick up Halo on PC and have it run nicely.

I think T.H.U.G.'s on PC, might want to check into that. Getting an X-BoX for 1 game's a total waste. Halo's not even that good, sure it's fun, but not as good as some say.

Well, it would partly be my brother's Christmas present for me, and I'll have a little bit of money from Christmas to put towards it too, I'd imagine. So I wouldn't be paying full price for it... There's also the fact that *cough* 160gb harddrive *cough* yes *cough* illegal *cough.*

I would say Halo for XBox is more fun than Halo PC simply due to co-op mode... but I prefer the PC control style. Regardless, it is a rather old game nowadays. We're seeing the end in the console market domination for an upswing in quality high-tech PC games right now, and in a couple of years the pendulum will swing back over to consoles. For now, though, I'd say stick with the PC unless you absolutely must play some XBox exclusive game.

When i was going to buy my console i at first was going to get a ps2, mainly because of many games etc. i changed my mind when i played my friends xbox, the graphics were perfect. Even when xbox only had like 10 games i still wanted it. So i got it. And i never regret getting my xbox.

I wanted to get an xbox because I like the sound of xbox live and I've always been curious about the voicy thing... but there's no games in the store I'd touch with several bargepoles lashed together into one giant super mega bargepole so I've never bothered.

On a fun note of hypcrosy though I just bought a PS2 despite being almost legandarily anti-Playstation amongst my friends. I'm thinking they're gonna mention flying pigs when I tell them ^^;

XBox also has Project Gotham 1+2, Soul Calibur, and other fun games that work well on a console. Not to mention the fact that it's a hell of a lot easyer to get 16 people in a room playing Halo together than it is to get the same ammount of people playing anything on computer.

It's not better than a PC, not worse, just fills different purposes.

Of course, but it's another title added to the XBox's lineup. If you have a roomate or sibling gamer, that's a barrel of fun right there, experimenting with all the takedowns and guard impacts.

That's what I've been thinking, I can swap games with my friends too. I wouldn't mind the DVD player function too, even though it would be region 2 and most of my DVDs are region 1... Can you get it multiregion?

Edit: Spawn is in XBOX SC2... Woo!!!

Get a ps2, and bask in the glory of FF's, Xbox does have Halo, and has Halo 2 coming, but right now I can't think of many other games that are good, and don't have identical clones on every other system.

Rather than buying into console fanboy hype (on either side of the fence), take a look at the game selection. Go with whatever has the most games you want, or if there's one really really special game that's only on one platform that you can't not have, make your decision and go for it.

After, you play games, not systems.

Not a great fighting game, but Spawn's a Plus. Not worth buying it for one character.

The only good thing I see going to X-BoX right now's Halo2, and Conker's Bad Fur Day: Live and Uncut.

No. But you'll probably wan't to disregard my opinion because I'm a longtime Nintendo/Sega fanboy and have, shall we say, a grudge agains MS (YOU KILLED BUNGIE YOU BASTICHES!). As far as I'm concerned, console gaming is half-dead, and when/if the big N goes, it will be all dead.

There are a lot of new games coming out for xbox that will definately raise it sales (halo 2, fable, etc). I'd go for an xbox.
