hi, im pretty new to this forum but i've spent alot of time lerking around mostly trying to find custom skins... but my point is that i've noticed a desturbing trend in alot of treads. its flaming and just gerneal rudeness and i belive i read a thread about this a long time ago. but it dosent seem like it had any effect. this makes this a very hospitable place for newbs and ppl not into the forum scene. personaly i blame the admins because its there responsabuility to keep this place in order and acceble to all. ppl just try to be a little less critical of other people.. i mean what makes u better then the person ur belitteling???

#1. If you have an important message, I suppose a simple spell check never hurt...! But it's readable, which is good.
#2. In reply to what I quoted, lol, you mean hostile.
you have these cliques of people who do very little OTHER than read the forums, they get overly-informed and become snooty about it.
anyone who isn't apart of that is immediately bashed.
they're also convinced that people should use the "search" feature on any and every topic before posting one.. even if they have no reason to believe the topic is common.
it's pretty stupid but also very common, and just how it is.
EDIT:
Forlorn, is that intended to be an example of what he's talking about?
As you said, what he posted is "readable", so there should be no reason to correct him. Your spelling may be spot on, but your grammar isn't. don't be so quick to judge, eh?
and try to stay on topic. what you said has NO relevance to the subject and is just designed to cut him down.
2. Blaming the admins as your first step when you've got five posts to your name makes you a REALLY popular person.
3. Your recent antics in the S&I forum make you a REALLY popular person.
4. Somebody as amazingly popular as you could only be a troll.
5. You mean "inhospitable." If you're going to talk crap about this place, at least try not to say the exact opposite of what you mean.
In S&I, you should.
Anyway, yes, he's readable. I can understand him for the most part.
This doesn't change the fact that he needs to go read a book. The staggering number of errors he manage to cram into such a short post makes the baby Jesus cry.
don't say that, then they will start locking every other thread
P.S. you don't need to flame people about there spelling
yes i go mean inhospitable
and i did this as an outsider looking in, and besides i've never been one to shut my mouth for the sake of my apperiance (lol i dont think that can out as noble as i wanted it to but oh well. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> )
lol.

Well, I think that the advice to make use of the search-function is not intended to 'bash' the topicstarter, but to prevent the forum from being spammed with double topics.
Also, I think it is very hard to read a post like the first one in this topic, no punctuation, bad spelling, no indenting do not improve my understanding of this post.
Normally if the enemy agrees with you if its against them will comment on spelling... lol not applying to anybody here, but its really annoying. as long as you understand what they are saying, you shouldn't really care or put down because of it. its pointless
You, however, are not one of them.
Regardless, this may have to do with what you speak of.

I think that people who say "ppl" need to stay in the chat room and far, far away from forums.
In a chat room, most things are forgivable. You're typing small messages back and forth, and sometimes you need to be fast to get your word in.
In a forum, somebody could say something yesterday, and you could reply to them tomorrow. You also have the ability to go back and fix your mistakes. If you just don't bother, you're showing us nothing but either laziness or stupidity. What gets me is that some people even consider it rude to ask that people show some effort in their posts. In days gone by, the rude person was the one who persists in annoying mannerisms, despite knowing better. Nowadays, it seems that the real victim is the one who just can't be arsed.
Oh, and this...<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Normally if the enemy agrees with you if its against them will comment on spelling... <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->...just completely boggles the mind. I can't make any sense out of that. If you've gone through your life thinking you've won every argument you got in because the other person would like you to use proper English, I pity you.

Guys I'm not trying to be mean by this btw....
I'm simply stating that if he wants to get out to others, he should use a little spell checking... nothing perfect, but good god, once your accuracy goes below 20% I start to get irrateted.
Anyhow, I said #2 because it's funny his spelling conveyed the oppisite message of his intent.
Indeed. Even if you think it is rude to call somebody on spelling, you've got to admit that there's something wrong when somebody is saying the exact opposite of what they mean because they lopped off a prefix.
1) If you don't know English, you shouldn't consider it rude at all for people to correct you, unless they're doing it in a particularly demeaning way. You should be learning from them.
2) Those that use abbreviations like "ur," and "ppl," and other bits common to chat rooms generally aren't foreigners, because those are intentional manglings of the language invented by native speakers.
Your point? Most forigners speak better internet english than indiginious speakers.
Gah!
Not nearly as bad as penny arcade or something awful though...
The divide between vets/clanners/pubbers and between betatesters and not-testers have given this place a horrible atmosphere. Regulars seem to flame vets and newbies alike. What happened to this place? <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
It occurred to me that people are over steping the boundries others set up (becoming offensive) althought I can only speculate as to why this happens, I can say that it all boils down to people being over critical of others. its plan and simple just step back... you dont have to point out every last mistake or flaw of another person, it's unnecessary... I mean are you perfect???
And finaly because I know that althought this will reach some of you, this will fall on def ears so its up to the mods to keep this to a minium for the sake of newcomers and vets alike.
Ty all for listening to me rant but I felt that this forum had an unusually high amount of this stuff going on.
Because, there is only so much some people can take of being talked down to and treated like a moron isn't there? Need I drag up some previous topics created by vets essentially saying that the general NS populace had a worthless opinion on anything in X update? Or the various posts in whatever thread you see from time to time. Or I could dig up posts along the lines of "OMG TEH BETA TESTERS WERE SO STUPID!!!oneone TEHY MISSED TEH SIMPLE BUGSORZ!! THEY SUCKS!!", which usually serve no purpose and just aggravate the people who did work really hard on their job as beta testers. You get this in the above threads too, where some individuals just flame beta testers/vets for no apparent reason.
It shouldn't take a person with a degree in neurosurgery to see that is going to create a fair amount of biterness, for example, between two groups of people.
What happened to this place is probably relatively simple, waiting for new versions. People get bored and start to get all angsty when new versions are on the way. Look at DoD for example, the community was one of the best until 3.1, 1.0 [retail] odds. Not nearly as fun anymore, then again, that goes hand in hand with how much the game degraded too.

Translation: "I can't think of any other way to insult your post without looking like a complete imbecile so I think I will insult your spelling and grammar. I will then in a later post try and play it off as a "let me help you with your english pal" type deal when that is definitaly not what I was trying to do."
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->you have these cliques of people who do very little OTHER than read the forums, they get overly-informed and become snooty about it.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
While true, this is still an attempt to insult people who spend time reading the forums.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->1. I've seen what I'd describe as a flame here all of maybe... two times, I think?

1.) Calling the original poster a liar
2.) Translation: "I'm going to use sarcasm and call you a really popular person when what I am really doing is calling you a looser."
3.) Same as 2.
4.) Now calling the original poster a troll in a troll-like manner... very ironic.
5.) Advice you should take for yourself, why don't you just come right out and start spewing swear words at the guy instead of tipy toeing around and pretending your post was anything but one big insult.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->This doesn't change the fact that he needs to go read a book. Aaaa yes another one of those "I can't think of anything else to insult him about but he INSULTED MY PRECIOUS FORUMS SO HE MUST PAY!1! So I think I will insult his spelling. Then add something about baby Jesus even though baby Jesus would smack me in the face for this post."
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I believe one of the biggest reasons for "flaming" has got to be the illegible posts people make. Using "some" correct grammar and spelling, such as capitalizing the first letter of a sentence, goes a long way into making people respect what you post. I'm not trying to suggest every post should be error-free, but at least make an effort into trying it.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Not really a insult but we will just add it because it is a really weak attempt to justify the even weaker posts that insulted spelling.
This next post is so full of insults I will split it up into seperate quotes.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I think that people who say "ppl" need to stay in the chat room and far, far away from forums.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Translation: "In this post I am attempting to show you how insulting and closed minded I can be. I am also trying to let you know what a PATHETIC life I have since I infer that I spend enough time on these forums to fix all my mistakes in all my posts. I am also attempting to get a chuckle from you at the irony that I have some mistakes in my posts that I was, by my own words, "too lazy or stupid to fix"."
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->1) If you don't know English, you shouldn't consider it rude at all for people to correct you, unless they're doing it in a particularly demeaning way. This is the same guy that made the previous 2 quotes as well and now hes trying to pretend hes a good guy and not the foul mouthed child that he is. Frankly junior you really don't give a dam about how well he speaks english but you had no other avenue to insult him from so you had to scramble for whatever tool you could use to attempt to cut him down. Please also note that this fool attemps to even say that the original poster should be GRATEFULL for the insults to his spelling that were given. If this isn't a riot of a joke I don't know what is.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Your point? Not really a insult, just another attempt to strengthen the shaky foundation of insulting his spelling..... Though I doubt that this statement is backed by any actuall reality and is probably just one of those "off the cuff" spontanious made up facts.
In conclusion 077bitsromaht wins the award for being the person most likely to be sold into slavery for less than 2 pounds of horse puke.
There is probably a few I missed but o well I have had my laf for the night......... OMG 077bistrmatho make sure you insult that I said LAF in your next post.
Maybe you can say something about how I should stay in chat rooms. And make sure you get a blerb about spelling in there to... and please use the search tool and look up all your previous posts and fix those mistakes, your looking more like a moron every minute, as per your own words, you must be either lazy or stupid for not fixing those already.
Maredtext: insulting the insulters isn't a good idea... Heck, insulting multiple people in general isn't a good idea.
It is however a good idea to read the whole thread.
