I love how into this stuff people get. All the "elite" of the NS community jump in immediately with "the NS team is a god and you must submit! cannot complain! HAHAHA!". I will be totally honest, I <b>do not care</b> if Flayra paid too much for voice actors when he didn't have to. I don't care how many weekends they must dedicate to game development. You shouldn't, either.
This is their choice, and while you can be grateful for it, it doesn't mean people can't complain about certain things.
Releasing public media goes hand in hand with receiving criticism on that media. It's plain and simple. If they can't handle it, they shouldn't be developers at all. It's just what will happen.
They're mod-makers, not Red Cross volunteers. Apply your respect elsewhere.
Making promises they know they shouldn't be making, then going back on that promise without feedback to the community (a simple news update stating that development is delayed would suffice) is invariably going to anger a lot of people in the community.
This is NOT how you should handle your PR.
As for me, I'm more irked by the fact that the team took their own joke seriously and ran with it. I don't feel Combat is even remotely neccesary and imagine that it will quickly die off. This seems more like a stunt to get more people to play some aspect of NS, rather than to focus development on the game they originally intended to make.
Not to mention they didn't bother to fix what we had prior to starting this delay-fest.
Do I have a "right" to complain? Yep. I can opine on anything I want, and with public media, public boards, they'll have to deal with it. That comes with the territory. Do they "owe" me anything? Nope. No one has said that. All they've said is that 3.0 will not make it's release (well-known fact) and that the somewhat vague release date was inaccurate.
Those attempting to defend the "release date" as possibly meaning anything other than the current holiday season are clearly in denial. There's no reason to play loyalist here.
You know, typicalskeleton has a point, some people don't mind it being released with bugs. I mean think about it... It's steam supported right? So all updates could be done through steam, small bug-changes etc. could be done while we play the game, without any interruption, as long as we are logged into steam. As of now of course, steam is in no condition to be relied upon for many people, myself included, so this would only be a possibility when steam stabilizes itself, and by that time, 3.0 would be finished.
Adding to what Cold Nite said, no software is EVER without some bugs. That's just a general rule of thumb for programmers.
I will admit without hesitation that I haven't tried Combat or NS3.0 in beta. But if the current bugs are not game-crippling, and the balance is atleast on par with 2.01, I don't see what the problem is. As previously mentioned, NS3 will be Steam-based, making further patching and tweaking much easier than it would be.
Or if Combat is dragging the project down, I'd refocus development on "vanilla" NS and get that out. If Combat needs more time it needs more time. Don't let that stop the entire project.

Tbh every one is picking on scooter when all he has done is made a valid point, he called some one a moran because they DID say somthing that was completly incorrect, all scooter has done is make a valid point that ns-v3.0 isnt out when we were lead to beleave it was, and just defended himself, if i had heard him slag the ns team off directly by saying they had made a crap mod etc... then yay i wouldnt side with him, but all he has done is make a point which is the whole point of these forums.
Blue, just because you hate everyone that made NS because they said it will be available this holiday season doesnt mean you should come on the boards and rant about it in almost every thread containing something about the release date.
We understand your po'd already, now go take yourself elsewhere to people that actually care about what you think at this point.
Combat isn't dragging classic NS' development behind, nor is it the other way round - one could in fact argue that combat is in a way focus balance testing of classic NS as a lot of the standard combat situations happen a lot more often in it. The reason for the delay is a number of unforseeable bugs that cropped up during the development of 3.0 and that have to be resolved first as they are - differently than the "plethora" of 2.0s - directely obstructing the game, for example by massive lag.
As I said, these bugs were unforseeable; the 'holiday' date was plausible before them.
I'll agree that a newsupdate would've been a good idea, but completely commercial teams consisting of more than one person at their hard core tend to slip up on those over their work, so I'm honestly a little bewildered at the scales Flayra is measured after here.

Then if they dont get that buggy version they cry about, they have to wait and cry about that. All in all the dev team cannot win, they here people criticizing them for not releasing it, but they would get criticized for releasing a bugged version.
If you wanna playtest, donate 20$, OR form a group of 6 people and start a clan and apply for the veterans program, and abide by those rules. You know what I like? Is how I donated for constellation almost as soon as it started maybe a week after it began. But they never made me a constellation member. I mean $20 right? Not like I'm going to get real **** cause they are doing something but I gave them $20 with no benefit to me it seems. So can't I be a little annoyed that it's not out yet? Shouldn't we all atleast get an update on why it's not done. Or a rough estimate of how far along it is? All the beta-testing they do about balance is pointless in my opinion. Cause once the general gamers like myself get ahold of it, we find things and do things that the beta-testers didn't. We discover new ways of doing things that make the balancing need reworking. And so far this has been true with EVERY release of NS. The beta-testers think it's balanced really well. And then the rest of the world gets it and it's incredibly screwed up. I mean just look at how over-powered aliens were at the start of 2.0! And then in 1.0 any decent marine team could take out the aliens in no time at all if they just got jp's and upgrades. 2.0 ended up being relatively balanced but not as well as the balance in 1.0 ended as. In my opinion 1.04 was probably the closest thing there has been to equal teams in NS. As for combat, it seems to want to turn this into a CS type game. I play NS now and then because it doesn't have rounds. Rounds are what make the games boring to me. I can stand playing CS now and then but after awhile I get tired of having to sit out everytime someone with an AWP gets one lucky shot on me and then the remainders of the teams camp. It could be decent however depending on your tastes so I'm alright with it. And as for having contempt or appreciation for the makers of the game. Do what you want. Praise them for making a pretty good game or hate them for not being talkative about it. They don't owe us anything and we don't owe them thanks. To them this is mainly a hobby and more importantly a game to add to their portfolio. This helps them as much as it helps us.
Soooooooo~
In summary, WTH is going on? How about an update guys?

But someone with some sense of mind has to come along and throw in his two cents now and then. As I said, stop trying to cause more problems (and arguments for that matter) and good day to you sir.
D6969, if you weren't entered in the database, I suggest mailing Flayra via the constellation E-Mail adress. You should get verified shortly after. Afterwards, you'll soon realize that beta testing does in fact influence a whole lot about the games balance - the post-release unbalancing you describe is miniscule compared to stuff that will necessarily crop up in the tests.

I'll agree that a newsupdate would've been a good idea, but completely commercial teams consisting of more than one person at their hard core tend to slip up on those over their work, so I'm honestly a little bewildered at the scales Flayra is measured after here.

I agree with Nem on this one, the hitbox bugs, and the Steam lag alone is a reason not to release the new version. I swear to god there is no pleasing some people. They would rather have a buggy version to cry about it, than a quality version that will be released after those are fixxed.
If you do not want to do either of those TO HELP the development of NS, than please, keep the release date comments to yourselves, you are not helping anyone by posting them.
I've <b>got</b> to get that framed...
Not even a "And thine father smells of elderberry" for old times sake?
Bah, nm no one played Red Guard but me.
Honestly though what can you expect, sure he had a valid point but this was veiled behind his insulting attitude, which was on the whole unnecessary. Both major threads in which he got flamed, he made inflammatory remarks that irritated people. If he had stated his opinion any other way it would have been fine. However, on the whole, his opinion would have been ignored by many if he didn't start arguements with it. Perhaps he's being over-aggressive on purpse?
Stop REPLYING to these threads.
I pass them over each time (sometimes reading them tho, in this case) but rarely, if ever, respond.
Telling them to just wait or "use the search function" OBVIOUSLY doesn't work for them. Just don't give them the luxoury of a discussion on it.

Eh? Isn't that from Monty Python SFTHG?
"Your Mothir was a 'amster, and your Father smelled of Edlerber-ries."

Will, yeah, turkey owns. However after 5 days of left overs it loses some of its appeal.
As fro your two; this thread as some well-argued points and valid opinions. The only reason you should not reply to it is if you have no oppinion. (As I think someone may have mentioned earlier).
I am sure you all know how to use forums, so I'll stop there. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Soooooooo~
In summary, WTH is going on? How about an update guys?

You know what else? Stop trying to cause problems, we have enough as it is.
WTH did I say in my thread that you so cleverly quoted? I pass these threads over, rarely reading them as in this case. You'll notice (or rather, not) that I never reply in these threads. But someone with some sense of mind has to come along and throw in his two cents now and then. If I struck a chord with you because you enjoy arguing with peon's in threads such as this, then I offer no apology.
Yes, that is what "donating" is all about. Giving, not to get anything in return, but to help.
Seems you don't understand that though.

Or a rough estimate of how far along it is?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
this entire topic could have been avoided if people had been given alittle more information,

yer we all know they are busy changing the game and having a nice holiday but it wouldnt have taken 2mins to write a news update on the main page rechanging the release date ?, im not slaging them off before you attack me, im just pointing out how this whole thing could have been avoided.
No, they said this holidy season.

Yes, but I am no longer interested in HL2 because of their BS. Probably used all that crap as an excuse because they were not near finished with the game.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Scooter, what really do you want? NS 3.0 with bugs to fill your hearts desire, just as long as it is released? I don't think the NS team owes you anything. Heck, they could just only release it to constellation members. They could release it for not even consties and make you pay $50 to download it. They could just not even release it and destroy the site. Just wait scooter. Just wait. That shouldn't be to hard. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
No they can't, it's a HL mod. There are policies they must follow in the SDK.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->This is what bugs me. When the ns team say that it will be ready for christmas, I think, thats nice they gave us an idea of when we will be able to play it. However the problem a lot of people seem to have is when this date comes round, they think they have some right to get the game on that date. You have to right to play natural selection, or to demand the ns team release it, just chill down and play whats avalible. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yes I do, RELEASE IT.

urm m8 this is a discussion , if you had bothered to read the thread then you would now that, we arnt saying that the ns team dont have lives, all some of us are trying to say is that they could have mentioned it to us about the delay, we really dnt need some person who has no idea and doesnt actually read the threads coming in and shouting his mouth off, these are disscussion boards quess what you do on them... disscuss things. Also no-onw is saying we could do better, i have sang the NS teams praises ever since the game came out.
please think before you type.
