the -os ending is greek, not latin. hence, plural is oni.

    whatever

And you point is? Deer(singular), Deer(Plural). Onos can be used for either one.

The only good example we have (from the English language) to compare to is the word rhinoceros. At dictionary.com, the plural endings are -os and -oses. At webster.com, the plural endings are -os, -i, and -oses. Not that that clarifies anything (it only adds to the confusion, I guess), but oh well.

That is basicly where the logic for it being called Oni came from, that and its Japanese for Demon!

Oni being japanese for Demon has NOTHING to do with the Onos plural form.

Japanese Oni is pronounced <OH knee>

Greek based Oni is pronounced <oh NIGH>

In the future please don't confuse the two... heh... <ock toe pee>.... <rye noss er ee>... too funny.

Actually, the vote is wrong IMO. I believe the correct term would be "look out for <u>those</u> onos " or "look out for the flock of onos".

That was the conclusion of <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=15535&hl=' target='_blank'>a thread I started way back.</a> I still haven't seen a reason to change it, taking the origins of the name into consideration.

Except that doesn't really count, since octopus ends in -us, not -os, which has probably already been said (about different words) a few times in this thread.

    DOES IT REALLY MATTER?
I mean holly crap, has this been played out!
Its Oni, its Onos, it doesn't really matter
Call it a Space Cow for all I care.
Wither its Octopi (plural of Octopus) or a Moose (Plural and singular) does it really matter.

My point with bringing up octopus is it's one of the words that noone knows what it is in plural <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

In any case, Rhinocer<b>os</b> and Rhinocer<b>i</b> counters all previous arguments in favour of Oni.

Stuff this, I'm writing to Jabberwocky on this one.

I'd rather change the singular to Ono and leave the Plural "Onos"...

One Ono, two Onos sound's good to me. narf.
