The fact that people are complaining about having the playing field leveled is pretty sad, and tbh, the server-side script variable <i>is a good <b>start</b>.</i> It would be great to see ways of blocking hardware and software methods of achieving the same corner-cutting lamery, as well as the eventual phasing out of sv_blockscripts 0. Removing scripting will force people to work harder and think smarter, so of course it's no surprise that people who are by nature lazy and abusive are complaining.

Every time some thread comes up about this, all I ever see from the leaguers are how absolutely legal Ludicrous_Script1 through 40 (<b>IN THE LEAGUES!!!1</b>) are, and how everyone else is just envious of the mysteries of writing lines of code to remove the need to move ones fingers or remap the buttons. The devteam should do all sorts of things. Unfortunately, they're doing this for free, and even if they do implement every piddly idea eventually, it will take time. In the meantime, there's a bunch of developers out there who will improve the interface using (god forbid) semicolons.
Here's another legitimate interface improvement: wouldn't it be nice if you had a chat-mute button so you can make everyone shut up for the few seconds that you're stalking someone / being stalked? Well, you can, with "voice_scale 0; stopsound", and then "voice_scale .7" to unmute. With a few more semicolons, you have a toggle-chat-mute button. Yes, it's something the dev team could put in the interface. No, you shouldn't take my semicolons away from me during the 2 years it's going to take for that to become an official feature.

Because really the expanded version of that is "If you can't do something without using the console, you're doing something the development team hasn't approved of, which is evil", which, while necessary in some contexts (server-side things that affect other players), in others (client-side things that only affect the the computer you paid good money for) it's a downright fascist attitude.
This business of blocking semicolons and exec commands will be my downfall.

Please, for the love of God, don't make it impossible for me to have two seperate configurations. All you'll do is prevent legitimate players like me from being able to do legitimate things like loading bindings.

Aw man. Biting a dude's head should do more damage! Oh well.
By the same logic, if you bite him in the face, you should totally put him out of commission, yes?
A marine without eyes ripped out shouldn't be able to do much, IMO <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Then yet, it's just a game.
If aliens can get headshots, then should the marines.
Think how greatly skulks will drop along w/ fades and lerks and gorges. Onos doesn't matter because it looks like it has a whole piece of a defence chamber on it's head. lol
No, it's getting remade as we speak. Check the mapping forum.
i think the remake team is doing it
i would help, but i can't map
*sigh*
This is the single solitary "script" that is in my config-
bind "MWHEELDOWN" "invnext; +attack; wait; -attack"
bind "MWHEELUP" "invprev; +attack; wait; -attack"
And I use this to be able to roll my mouse to switch weapons without having to roll, then press fire, then press fire again to actually fire.
That is stupid. GG NS. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
hud_fastswitch 1
that will fix your problem so you don't have to press fire while switching weapons. And about bast, it's still there as long as you had ns 1.0 or 2.0 you still have the bsp file for bast and you'll still be able to play it. They can't really just make bast not work. Only problem with it is the lack of onos movement right? But really that map was played on with and without onos for quite a while without problem wasn't it? This is the problem with your beta-tests. You guys aren't looking for what will actually happen. You're acting like beta-testers and not players.
Ummm I can't agree with you... Except for the part about taking out a scripts is pointless. Killing someone with a bunnyhop script would be easy because they would just be doing it at a set pace right? So therefore very easy to figure out and counter. Ducking... That just makes them move slower and thus easier to kill. Pistol script? Well the good news is you can't unload a pistol in half a second like you used to. But even so it would teach you to dodge so you don't get shot. Perhaps the people you see using "scripts" are more likely using a speed hack.
Because that's exactly what they are. It's something that everyone knows, but just doesn't like to admit.

Ha yeah I agree with that I'm especially disdainful towards the amazing Constellation guys who just love to ignore me.

Can't blame it on them. Ever since Constellation = 3.0 PT, people who are mean, and have money usually get the first go....but of course, not all of them. A good way to look for the Consties and PTs might be in looking in #nsquestions (if it still exists) at gamesnet.net on IRC.
Back on the topic, I don't see how the anti-script is THAT limiting unless you rely on scripts to do everything for you <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Be sure to also consider the factor that it's a server variable, and it most probably off by default. If it is set to default though, casual public servers will most likely set it to 0 :/
Side-note : ScaryMonkey is madcow, they guy who was temp. suspended <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
As many have already said, no, that does not work. Fastswitch affects only the slotx commands; it does not affect invnext and invprev.
And by the constellation guys I meant the guys that run it. They like to ignore anything I send them.

The development team should make it so it does.
DoD allows invnext and invprev to select your next weapon instantly with hud_fastswitch at "1".

People have their reasons. Why force them to use a certain configuration?
O Increased Combat spawn times a bit more (max wait is 45 seconds, up from 30).

you gotta be kidding, thats a long time to wait...
y do we have to wait so long?

Why does MSWord allow you to change bold/italic/underline with 1) an icon, or 2) a menu item, or 3) a hotkey? Why does Emacs use a complete mature programming language for what's ostensibly just interface customization? Because people do things differently, and the original programming team will never think of all the ways that people might want to do things. We need a richer and more complete programming language for the console, NOT the concept of "if you can't do something without using the console, it's evil".

You see, because I share my computer with my brother Xefanrac, who also plays NS and has his own set of binds, we have two buttons set up. Press F9 to load my config, F10 to load his. After that, F7 to load my marine config and F8 to load my alien one. Very simple. Unfortunately, they require the use of either:
1) an <b>exec </b>command, or
2) a <b>LOT </b>of semicolons
Please, for the love of God, don't make it impossible for me to have two seperate configurations. All you'll do is prevent legitimate players like me from being able to do legitimate things like loading bindings.
And if it does get implemented, I hope and pray that my regular servers don't activate it.
It's the one thing that this game <i>doesn't</i> need.

I use a special config file as comander due to my wired key configuration. Without exec it's impossible for me to command, I would have to rebind 6 keys whenever I jump in or out of the cc.
