Not just that, the batteries run for a really long time, and a minute recharge equals 10 minutes of mouse working.

I'd rather have a mouse that never ever needs recharging, I don't care how fast it does it =P

how did you manage to calculate this percentage?

Firestorm: That's exactly the mouse that crapped out on me a week after purchase. It just blocked there all the time and after getting my replacement, got unexpected blocking all the time. Ballmice, or MX Logitechs are the way to go.

Bleh, you don't NEED a cord, it serves absolutely no purpose at all. Why the hell would you want to be able to move the mouse on your screen from 20 feet away? WHAT IS THE POINT?

Anyways, when hunting for keyboards and mice I most advise you to look for either microsoft or logitech equipment, in that order. I don't care what you angsty types have to say about them, Microsoft make some of the highest quality mice and keyboard, and most certainly take the cake in terms of ergonomics (I'm not talking about curvy mouse that look cool, I'm talking about the mice that wont land you in a doctors office 6 month later with a diagnosis of OOS/RSI, something I developed at a tender age of 18). The MS natural keyboard and intellimouse are both comfortable and far easier on that hands than anything the competition has to offer.

If all else fails, a good guide to seeing if a mouse is going to bugger your hand up or not is to put your hand on the mouse as you normally would hold in and click the buttons. Watch the tendons on the back of your hand and see how they flare as your finger bounces up from a click. The better the mouse, the less you tendons should flare after each click.

5 buttons and a scroll wheel are definately good options, makes surfing the web and playing HL mods a lot more handy.

Optical can be good, especially if it's made by MS/logitech, just remember that they dont work that great on shiny or plain looking surfaces (but that can fixed by putting any random piece of paper inbetween the mouse and your desk if it's a problem). Not having to ever clean them is great, but you may have scrape the gunk that WOULD have been on your mouse ball off the mousepads with with your finger nails once in a while...

One thing I look for in a mouse is a certain weight. I like a heavier mouse, hate some of the optical mice that are feather light, they move too easily. Also, I hate mice with buttons that press too easily. Lay your hand on the thing and it clicks, ugh. Although its been awhile since I've seen one of those. Here's my baby (not exactly, mine's not so smooth. That would bug me), she still holds up:

I agree. This mouse is A COMPLETE AND UTTER PIECE OF CRAP.

Seriously, I wouldn't accept one as a gift. I have three in my cupboard, all wrecked. The cable wiggles loose out of the top and it cuts in and out all the time. It's too big too. It's like the (slightly) smaller cousin of the XBox controller.

I've had 2 friends who owned mice with the same problem. I'm afraid by now you're a bit late to take advantage of the free replacement Microsoft was giving -- it was a very quiet recall.

    I have a trackball.

So I'm disqualified from this discussion. Although I can spin around the Readyroom real fast!

My Dad replaced his two or three times (can't remember). He upgraded to a newer model of the same line - and it's still just as junky (but at least the cord issue is sorted out).

Still feels way too big, and the mouse buttons on the side are way to sensitive. How am I supposed to hold thing thing? There are buttons everywhere on it - I can't grab it without pressing one button or another. Frustrating.

Do not get the microsoft optical (normal ones, not intellimouse). They look great, they're cheap, they're fairly comfy, and look inviting to those who would wish to save some $$, but the wire. Oh my god the wire. The material it's made out of stays in the bent shape it was stored in, and it has to be the most annoying thing in the world. I take that back -- avoid microsoft mouses. Buy logitech. The end.

WTH? Mine is perfect. I have it for a long time now, and the only "problem" is that the Microsoft logo is erased

Maybe a little off topic, but I'm considering switching to one of those Logitech Trackman trackballs over my current mouse... I haven't tried anything yet, but it just seems that a smooth ball being moved with the thumb would be a little more accurate in gaming than a regular mouse where the entire wrist is involved...

Anybody have any experience with switching?

I tried to do the recall thing about two years ago. It doesn't apply to Australia.

I'm glad I made this thread, otherwise I wouldn't have known the MX510 existed because it's not on Logitech's website. Thanks, ub3rbr0k3. I Went to Best Buy today and saw that for $10 more than the 500 I could get one with better looks and supposedly better response/tracking ability. If I don't post in this thread again, assume it works fine.

Question: does it come in any color other than red?
