Now now, lets not get into a fight. Despite the fact that all three matrix films rocked. And they were written as one film so you can't say each film desperately tried to cover up the last ones plot holes. We're talking about the AVP film here.
If i remember rightly (which i probably don't), it's set in a pyramid or something (on earth or on another planet, i don't know). Predators have been using aliens as initiation "hunts" for younger predators to become adults for centuries.
Only this time..... Humans get caught in the middle!
*cue dramatic music and butch character who no one likes but he'll turn nice and save someone (and die doing it), the really cute character who gets slaughtered, the kickass hard knock who stays behind to 'buy them time' and takes out approximately half the alien force before getting killed and the hero and his love interest who'll make it out. And of course, right at the end, the opening of an alien egg so we have room for A SEQUEL! Or possibly a predator decloaking and seen staking the humans from a high point in the kickass crouch position*

Pay no attention to the admin behind the man-portable nuke.
AvP setting: Predators seed planets (like earth) with aliens for initiation hunts. The seed sites are the sites of ancient earth civilizations - mayan, incan, aztec, for example - and the pyramids and other wonders those civilizations constructed were built with help from and to honor the visiting predators. Cases in history of ancient civilizations simply vanishing are the result of failed initiation hunts, when the predators activated their self destruct sequences.

Well, it could be a human temple built to commerorate the advancements brought by the Predators, but the Predators (at least the males) barely understand how their technology works, but they use it quite well. Apparently the females are much larger and much stronger but stay at home and build stuff all day... (from the AvP books)
