I agree with the OP. It would be great to hear some more ingame music. Maybe it could be triggered by certain actions and proximity to that action (eg build of certain structures, stepping on infestation, deaths, beginning of rounds etc.)

I think this is primarily about the colour. Choose green or blue with the same functionality would make the difference. I think it's about how the orange is unpleasant to the brain (psychology!)

When I started this thread I hadn't considered arcs. Doesn't this solve the problem? If the kham has the res to whiponate the base then the common should have enough res for some arc defence.

Agree. There are many traits only available in third hive. If both teams are equally matched they shouldn't have a nuke. That being said I'm not against contaminate, I was an advocate, it just needs adjustment

Instead of making the screen brighter when you go into light, maybe just make the contrast on marines reduced so it's harder to distinguish. That way you still have the light / dark advantages, but not the headache

Also there is some new tactics for khams with the changes. Such as using shades to hide the spread of infestation (structures move much faster now)

I think it would just be a question of the distance between infestation and the "ulceratation" ability (that's what I'm gonna call it for the mo), and also how mature the cysts/infestation needs to be before you can "ulcurate" the base.

I like Benson's idea of some ability which immediately infests an area so you can echo in whips etc. It suits asymmetrical gameplay and allows aliens a means of fighting marine turtles.
