Yes. TF2 grew quite a bit when it went free2play and has sustained a high player base since. In fact, a number of games that later went free 2 play grew their player base quite a bit.

Couldn't you say, copy/mirror the map at the edges to each other. So say, the west edge of the map is copied/mirrored to the east edge, so you wouldn't need flat edges. If that's technically feasible in a procedurally gen… -

You make a round world instead of a flat map like I suggested...... problem solved... no borders.

I've never heard of star citizen, so I looked into it... and was impressed at first. However, then I researched more into it and realized that there doesn't seem to be much information in regards to whether everything will be a se… -

I'm not convinced infinite exploration would be all that great either, as you get no sense of progress in a game like this. However, I do think there should be a sufficiently large enough map size to allow for a month or months of… -

This is essentially what caused Team Fortress Classic to die.
These people that don't agree with the OP can just be happy with your ever dwindling player base....... sure you may get a slight infusion of players during … -

I could have sworn minecraft was generated during map load (or if multiplayer, when the server creates the map.)
edit: after looking it up , it does appear to generate terrain on the fly.. however, the minecraft … -
Is it possible to procedurally generate things on the fly?
For example, procedurally generating terrain/creatures/etc. far outside of the players view distance. If that was possible, you would have unlimited exploration. (well maybe not … -

I'd argue there still needs to be some sort of overarching goal(s) for it to be considered a game. To crossover from being considered a virtual experience/simulation to a game.

Honestly.... this "game" is sounding more like a fictional virtual explorable ocean than an actual game....

Game sounds interesting? How can it sound interesting when all we really know about it is that it will be singleplayer and the gameplay will consist mostly of swimming/driving around underwater with a light crafting system.......… -
It's kind of funny to see people argue for a harder to read interface to arbitrarily make it harder for a comm in order to separate good comms from bad ones. It is about the lamest excuse I've ever heard.

and my other question, can you bind mwheelup/down to jump for bunnyhopping?
Otherwise, having bhopping in it is pointless for me.

They don't really seem to care for these type of quality of life improvements. Improving the alert for a powernode being under attack has been mentioned many times before.

Considering it is going to be a procedurally generated environment, no 2 worlds are going to be exactly the same. You will however, as a result of this system, see many features, terrain types, flora, etc... that are the same. A… -
can you bind mwheelup/down for bunnyhopping in it? (if there's no bunnyhopping.... then not the same as classic ns.)

That kind of game might be alright for a little while.... but would quickly get monotonous... most people would stop playing the game in droves.

if one of the features of the game is building a colony. I hope that we will be able to go into the colony and walk around into all the buildings we built and see NPC's mingling about at least.

I might agree with you on those pics ironhorse if the draw distance on them wasn't so limited........

that doesn't look like a gorge.... it looks like 2 different "animals" because of the contrasting colors , with one being behind the other. So the first one looks faceless, but with eyes... and the other looks like a shape of maybe a bald eagle.

I think that if this game didn't have such a huge snowball effect, if it was lessened to a great extent, then it would have a side effect of bringing balance to different amounts of players, whether it's comp or pub games.

I honestly don't believe that the atmosphere Willow512 described, *being done well*, is possible without a massive team for development and certainly not with a procedurally generated world.

correction.... the Linux OS may have better performance than windows, but games developed on windows in the first place usually have better performance compared to when they are ported to Linux.

Are these NS2WC admins new to league play/gaming or what?

Honestly, if you really want to balance the game, you need to do a lot more than just simple number value changing.
