(Quote) Yeha, some sort of sensor dart. You would use traditional "shooter" mechanics to tag a creature, but you don't kill or disable it. This could not only give you a way to avoid creatures that could crush your little sub easily, but also be …

(Quote) Congratulations, you found the joke. Here have a cookie.
That said, I wouldn't consider NS2's pre-order a train wreck. They were perfectly clear that the people that decided to "pre-order" way back before alpha were investing … -
My question wasn't really aimed at story or other RPG elements. With a randomly generated world a coherent story might be very hard to implement seamlessly - and might well exceed the scope of Subnautica.
But I think there could be room for so… -
And more important, will I be able to pre-order the alpha and get black armor for my sub?

I don't really need sub-vs-sub combat, but some way to defend yourself while exploring, gathering resources, etc. would only be sensible. When exploring the unknown, even if you have no intentions to harm anything, you will disturb the inhabitants. …

If you are an EU player, head over to "Survival of the fattest" server. It has a holiday mod enabled with "snow" infestation, pre-game snowball fighting, etc.
(but I do like the fact I can go to another server without all that stuff befo… -
I think using the NS1 theme is nice for nostalgia's sake, but I'm not impressed with this track to be honest.
To me it sounds like the original NS1 theme and a NS2 track mixed together. And they don't mix well. I would have preferred a new int… -
Since we're piloting a sub, why not go for a virtual cockpit to begin with? Have the "straight ahead" view display only the neccessary information, like depth, speed, bearing, hull/damage and weapon/tool/ammo. If there is a sonar, it should be visib…

Ok, so Subnautica is using Unity3D. Fair enough. But will all of UWE's resources tied up either in Subnautica or NS2, I'm not really sure what to think of this tweet from about a month ago:

Maybe those future plans have changed… -
I freely admit I absolutely HATE underwater passages in pretty much every FPS I've played. In almost all cases the visibility is severly reduced to make nagivation harder and creating an atmosphere of constant danger (it is a lot harder to identify …

2 questions about consistency, because - while I completely believe IronHorse - loading a map has never taken less than 90 seconds for me (admitted it's rather old):
1.) Is there a way to see if a server has consistency checking enabled? (so I… -
First of all: this is very impressive!
Is there any chance that, when this is closer to a "finished" state, it will be integrated into NS2 "core"? Some of the ExtraEntities mod stuff (weldables, push, etc.) works well (train/elevator sad… -
I haven't played around with skyboxes or cinematics at all yet so I hope this is not a stupid question, but... if the skybox is technically a cinematic, would it be possible to animate it? A slowly rotating space-type skybox could look really cool f…

Tried it a couple of times and it just doesn't seem to work
I actually ran into a situation where the map would be me… -
(Quote) I'm not suggesting it is (looks like ye olde memory leak to me tbh), just giving extra information that - from my limited sample size - seemed like it could be useful, if only to falsify a thesis.

I don't find the upgrades tied to "active" chambers to be very intuitive. I don't mind "unlocking" different stages of an upgrade via biomass, but I really dislike how the game forces me to build a Whip so I can research leap. I like the idea of evo…

Anyone running a Rookies Only / Learning server in the EU? Didn't see any in the server list.
Would be willing to give some advice (from roughly 250h of non-competitive play) or hop into the comm chair for a while. -
I have noticed rubber-banding and severe lag/loss on two servers I frequently play on in the in the last couple of rounds.
One of the servers was restarted by the admin, about 15 min. into the next round players started to notice the lags agai… -
I can recommend Reddog's VODs on Twitch.tv or YouTube. You can see some really great matches there. Of course you don't have control over the camera there...

(Quote) open the console (you might need to add "-console" in the Steam starting options of NS2) and then write "map ns2_awesomemap" where you "ns2_awesomemap" is of course the file name of your map (sans the .level)

Ok, tried that load-save stuff again, to no avail
- started the editor
- loaded ns2_redline.level
- saved the map as ns2_stopbreakingmymapyoustupideditor.level
- closed the editor
- restarted my computer (so nobody can … -
I'm a bit confused. If I understood this correctly, enabling cheats on a server does not only activate a certain set of "cheat commands", but also allows mocking around with things that, cheats or not, only should be available to server admins? Incl…

No success, tried it multiple times. Just restarting, loading and saving will result in the exact same number and position of the invalid triangles though, so it's not completely random (we just don't know what the cause is). I tried it with Steam a…

IIRC FMOD has different event types like single or loop. My guess (and just a guess, because I don't have it installed here atm) is that the problem might be there.

(Quote) Thanks for the answer, the tool does seem to work, the problem with the map was something else.
Is the crash still being worked on or is it a matter of "deal with it"/"not important"?

Quick question: Do you guys do "unit testing" in your sessions? (Or would you be willing to?)
Let say you have a layout with a pivotal choke point you want combat to focus, and you want feedback on how easy it is to attack, defend, lock down, … -

Just tried to create minimap and height map and overview.exe crashed (both by using command line, and by creating a mod and have builder execute overview.exe.

(Quote) While not really a helpful answer to my question (shows ~"26" like the wiki does), the command itself is quite useful.
I ended up just pulling an ARC in sandbox mode, look at the radius when deployed, and then load the map in the Ed…
