Those are very likely placeholder models. The whale is confirmed as far as I know to be the whale-thing from the glow whale concept art. The model is a work in progress. The penguins most likely are too. -

I'm pretty sure that the "earth whale" model is a place holder. I believe that it will look like the glow whale concept art

I believe for the Cuddlefish achievement you need to put the Cuddlefish outside. Do this by catching it in the alien containment and putting it in your inventory. Then go outside the base and drop it. You might need to play with it…You can continue playing your save from the last time you savedIt is just story based. You cannot actually die from it.(Quote)
