Not that anyone will particularily care about what I list:
10. Bola Snare Rifle (SNES Jurassic Park) - If you can't aim well, or even if you can, it'll take down anything you want (except for T-Rexes, which are apparently only phazed by tranquillizers)) in one shot...and sometimes some other stuff too.
9. The Gravity Gun (Half-Life 2) - cool because it can be used to solve actual puzzles (woot, physics puzzles). Kind of gimmicky/un-fun once you've been using it for a long time...shooting sawblades into zombies takes a long, long, long time to get old, though.
8. Needler (Halo) - [Note, not the wussy Halo 2 needler that isn't as cool]. Part fireworks display, part annoying purple pin shooter, all cool. The only weapon that was embarassing to get killed by. Also hat the cool ability to be shot into enemy corpses to cause explosions.
7. Rocket Launcher (Resident Evil 2) - You get to use it once (unless you're really good), but it is sweet.
6. Laptop Gun (Perfect Dark) - Check the video; woot for multiple uses.
5. M22 Assault Rifle (System Shock 2) - 3 bullets to kill a rumbler. If you want to murderize stuff, this is the way to do it. Plus it runs on pistol ammo, which is convenient.
4. Shotgun (Natural Selection) - The most satisfying shotgun in any game I've ever played. This includes all kinds of fancy auto-shotties and pump-action shotties. The feeling of unbridled power emanating from the NS shottie is just awesome - Despite actual performance of said weapon based on developmental changes.
3. C4 (Metal Gear Solid) - Put them anywhere...Lots of them...
2. The Redeemer (Unreal Tournament) - what the BFG should have been. Tactical nuclear weapons ftw.
1. Grenade Launcher (Aliens Versus Predator) - 6 grenades, 3 grenade types and 1 grenade launcher - you can't go wrong. Also came with a very satisfying "fwooomp" sound. 6 proximity mines, one frag mine and one SADAR later, you've got more light, more heat and more death than even a Redeemer could hope to create. You had to hope an alien or a predator (or another marine) didn't bother to shoot you before you created that giant inferno, though. The minigun isn't too bad either.

Cerebral Bore sould be well higher than 10, just for the effect of having a homing killer... Physcannon as number 1? It's not even a gun, it just picks up stuff and throws it. Does that mean that the "use" button and a little effort should be number one? No, it's not a proper weapon, it moves stuff around, it doesn't fire proper ammo.
Speaking of grenade launchers, the HYDRA from Unreal2 would be my one of choice. 6 different types of grenade, all easily switched around, with their own clip, so there's none of this removing clips from the gun to change the ammo type...
Laptop gun from PDZ? Pffft, real men use the Psychosis gun, move in, and pistol whip that sucker to death <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> And if we're talking about GoldenEye weapons, either the Moonraker laser, or the Strawberry Jammer (also known as the RCP-90, by heathens...), pump 2 of those, 4 people, infinite ammo, and paintball mode, and you too can melt your N64 expansion module <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Oh yes! I remember stacking priximity mines in small caves and what not, then you fire a frag into it *KA-BEWM!* and a large as hell flame shoots out obliterating anything in it's path.
The minigun in Hitman 1 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" /> but what the hell was it doing there?
Other worthy mentions: The god hand from B&W, never have a weapon been so flexible. Boozar from Fallout 2, it ate your ammo like sugar in a bee nest but dismembered anything with or without armor.
The staff in Ninja Gaiden, crush a single enemy? check. Effective against many enemies? check. Fast? Check. 3 level upgrade with strong combos? check. You get it early on? check.
I am disappointed. Not one of you has mentioned The First Shotgun (that may be false but...). The shotgun of doom 1. Pure and satisfying function. Even competent at long range!
There were guns after that, but none were as satisfying as The First Shotgun.
I think that any gun that provides no challenge (say the blue grav gun) isn't a great gun. It's no fun any more.
The blue lightning ammo for the weird charges-from-wall-chargers gun in Prey is a good gun because it's damned effective but limited in ammo and challenging to hit one hundred percent of the time.
I'm sure Farcry and Quake four had some good guns but I can't think of anything now. Brain dead.

You know, all of the AvP weapons are really fun (especially the first one). I could potentially add the pulse rifle, the minigun, the SADAR, the uber flamethrower, the grenade launcher, the minigun or the smartgun (skeet launcher is kind of retarded, dual pistols are useless, but cool - from the gold edition...came with suction-cup facehugger). Every weapon in that game was fun. Heck, even the predator weapons were pretty fun.
I always kind of held the smartgun as cheap, though, so I don't really feel like listing it. I always had the smargun and the minigun, so that you could track a cloaked predator and then mow him down with the minigun really easily. This makes me want an AvP3 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> .

Well considering the netcode was horrible in AvP2 most didn't mess with the tail; it was the best when you were the Queen, because the tail just gibbed.
Seconding Blaster Launcher and Gauss Gun. Especially the latter. Seriously, combine superior movement with a railgun... that goes through walls?! And is bugged(?) so it actually gibs anything even NEAR the point of exit for the beam(seriously, it does like 999 damage to everyone within range)... Ho boy, I love the gauss gun so much. Too bad there's just one on each hldm level or there'd be people flying around lazoring eachother.
1. Cannon (Serious Sam) 2. Flak gun. A weapon that shoots red-hot metal shrapnel that utterly eviscerate enemies? I'll take it! 3 - 10. Anything in the hands of Codename 47 :T
It goes boom and is just helluve fun to drive arround and see people flee, I think that scarefactor is what should be the sole reason for it to be in the list
however in FH it should be faster, I've seen footage of it being pretty fast. Found and uploaded footage to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fcq2cAi-a7Y" target="_blank">youtube</a>

And the Klobb has the worst accuracy of any FPS weapon ever.
They win because it's Marathon. And because they were great.
