I know what you mean. The main allure for WoW is definitely the high class people I can associate with, as well as the intellectual community and philosophical themes and discussions rampant throughout the zones, especially on the Alliance side. Sex and drugs can never hope to come close to the ecstasy obtained through even a 5-minute sample of the intellectual discussion that occurs on any given server in General chat.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I never said it was any better, I just never said the allure of real life was worth it either. Humanity blows no matter where you go, at least I don't have to leave my house to be discontent by my experiences on the internet.

Or maybe you just suck at socialising! Surely not, the problem could never be on your end. Especially not if it involves a complete dissatisfaction with the world and society within it, oh my no. Mmorpgs are the only answer, nobody understands me quite like video games do. Because.. you know... I tried so hard, and got so far, but in the end...

Obviously not. It's other people that fail to captivate me. I'm an anti-social type.

It beats the mallgoths on the street who try to compliment me on my band shirts, and don't get it when I insult them. Really, that's about all of my interactions with human beings summed up tidily. I just find it hilarious people who say socializing is the end to all problems and dissatisfaction get so uptight when someone isn't all that interested in it. I've done the partying and the socializing, and I just never got into it. There's not a whole lot that interests me in people who fall silent as soon as the conversation drifts from beyond the confines of small-talk, sex, and general teenage idiocy.

    ###### humanity, I'm going to ride my bike.

I wasn't getting uptight, I was just mocking you -- as I am now when I observe how emotional you get when you're called up on it. Touched a nerve, did I?

The simple fact that you equate everyone to mallgoths speaks loud enough for either your socialising skills, your appeal to other people, or the kinds of people you meet. I'd say a combination of the first two.

Forum stole my post, but I'll see what I can pull back intact from memory. Results may vary!

I don't quite see what's so emotional about what I said, really. I'm not particularly upset with my position so much as I am annoyed by how much people build up the alternative that I've found never quite captivated me.

Wrong. What I said (or at least, meant) is that the majority of people I (hell, everyone) bump into are stupid. I'd say it's a combination of the three, with most of the blame placed on the third. You can have all the appeal in the world, but not bump into the right kind of people. Honestly, what IS interesting about people who don't have a whole lot to say outside of small-talk, or lack interests that are relevant to me? I suck at feigning interest, so I don't bother.

You're right. Maybe you <i>are</i> the most uninteresting person in the world. That'd certainly explain your lack of success at finding anybody to bond with. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Maybe. I never said there's nobody I've ever bonded with, though. Bonding and meaningless acquaintances and partying are nowhere near the same thing. I'm a discussing for hours kind of person.

Well you were the one to bring up partying. Plus you can still talk to people for hours at parties. The point is, instead of sitting on a computer clicking away until you gain a +1 amulet of tediousness, you have the alternative of going out to your mate's place to watch some DVDs, going to play poker with them [for money or fun], get drunk on goon [haha] with them, go kick a ball around, do whatever. Being proud of how antisocial you are makes you come off as pretentious, elitist and a ######.

I take offense to the pretentious comment.

In all honesty, though, it's not like I'm a shut-in nerd anymore. It's just that I do what I enjoy, and outside of that, like life, I only really bother with it when it comes my way. I'm happy to play games and nerd out, and then have someone get a hold of me to do something on a whim. I bring parties up because it seems to be the main "if you aren't out having fun in public then you're a loser!" argument, and if you don't enjoy parties, you can't enjoy social interaction obviously.

But really, out where I am, I haven't found a whole lot of people I like. It's not really out of shyness or ineptness, but more of a general rift. Most wanna-be ghetto kids who grow up in trailer-trash central of Victoria, BC don't make the most interesting companions.

Glad to be of service. It's nothing personal, I just constantly feel the need to correct people on ridiculous beliefs like "it's not me, everybody else is just dumb", "shrooms and acid make you legally insane after you trip once", "communism is a great idea". Not that communism isn't a great idea, so long as you like crushing poverty, a corrupt ruling class and a whole bunch of angry peasants. Personally I love angry peasants, but that's just me.

To get back on topic, I play wow up to 6h on the weekends. I am addicted, but to my defence I also take good care of myself physically and spend ample time with friends and teh booze. Not that I need to defend myself anyway, wow is a hobby just like watching movies.

I think anyone who quits wow thinking it'll get them a better girlfriend job and friends needs to wake the ###### up. If you don't have a sex life, or any life for that matter, I think wow isn't the problem. I ski or run 10+km a day and have lots of schoolwork to do (last days in IB, if anyone know what that means) and still have time to WoW and chill with friends. Probably because my best friend lives next door, but whatever.

As a side note, wow is 10x more fun with irl friends. Pizowning a bunch of long haired elves in WSG with a bunch of people you drink with makes you feel like war vets when you meet.

    *edit* Ignorance maketh me mad.

I canceled my WoW account last October after my second character became lvl 60.
I quit mainly because I didn't find it funny that 20-40 people had to wait about an hour waiting for everybody to get ready for a raid and then spend a long time listening to a raid leader yelling.
I don't want to play 'elite' because I want to decide myself when I want to play and not when I'm "supposed to". It was like a job almost.
I found it fun to play with a few of my real life friends and Burning Crusade seems to have a lot more instances where that is possible so I might try it out again. :-/

On the other hand, I've played alot more NS and programmed alot of stuff since I quit, something I didn't have time to while I was playing WoW <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

It is also nice to have a leader who is able to easily kill you in game if you do something wrong.

    I have 0 chars at lvl 60 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I have a lot of chars which made it up to the 44-48 range. I just don't like the way you are forced to play together to get things done in this warm and cozy instance environment. That and the classes started to bore me at lvl forty-ish. Come to think of it it might also have something to do that it takes longer and longer to level up... Also the thing that its more of the same made me, after 4 times of quiting WoW (and being lured back into it by friends), finally decide to stop playing/paying for this repetative game...

I'm waiting for a realtime combat mmorpg if that is going to be made at all. Which lay emphasis on what you are able to do as a player instead of how much time you have spend playing the game to see the damage meter increase...

Communisim is a fine <i>idea</i>. However once you factor in the nature of humans (see: Greed) that's when things go bad. Besides, the reason communism has failed is because the only governments that have had the balls to tell people what to do to the extreme required, are all fascist. Fascism definetly doesn't work.

    In closing:
Spreading wealth equally among all inhabitants of a country = Nice in theory
Trying it with actual people = Will never work
Considering that all those countries that tried have had corrupt fascist governments = Doesn't help either

There's a section in Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs & Steel" that deals with the social heirarchy problem with different sized cultures.

If you want real-time combat Kouji I'm afraid there's not much currently out there except for planet side at the moment but the upcoming Huxley is looking great and is an FPSRPG with more emphasis on play over stats :3

In truth I'm fidgetting in wait for Warhammer: Age of Reckoning. The more I read about it the more excited I get... 'Public Quests', capturing the enemy capital and taking their king back to your base to put him in stockades and pelt him with tomatoes, all the classes are built to fight (even the healers... the empire warrior priest for example has to belt things with their ruddy big hammer to build up faith, which powers their heals :o ) and it's all set in the fabby lil warhammer world. The lead game designer guy seems nuttier than a oil-tanker full of nuts too which is a good thing :D

Check out the previews at <a href="http://war-en.curse-gaming.com/previews/745/ea-mythic-press-event-warhammer-online-unleashed/" target="_blank">Curse Gaming</a> and <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=72343" target="_blank">Eurogamer</a> and hopefully you'll get as happy as me about it all :p

Supposedly at their press event there were 40 odd game reviewer type people (and the newsletter I got from WAR had 13 different games sites listed! :o ) and not a single person had a bad thing to say during the event or after. If 40 different people can all come away saying "that was awesome!" then I suspect I might like it too :3

    It doesn't even matter!

Anyway, I just started playing WoW and I'm enjoying it, mostly. I have to walk so much it's almost killing me. I can't wait to get that mount thing. I started out as a priest and got to level 15, but couldn't be bothered by the slow leveling, so I started a new Night Elf Rogue, who is now level 18.

I started a Night Elf Rogue before that but I misnamed him, which I first discovered when I was at level 6. But I had so much fun with the class so I decided to fix the name and start over again <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I like teh WoW, but largely because it's something I can do with the GF. If she stopped playing, I probably would too. So many other good games out there that a hardcore WoWer misses out on.

    Anyway, What's wrong with priests <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

    I'm a warlock, I live with my gf who's a healy priest.

awesome duo. I love having an infinite mana bar, and she loves healing.

Also, holy is pretty sweet. Have you seen how much hp people have these days? I grouped with a rogue who had 9k a couple days ago. I'm a warlock with 7k, in almost entirely pre-BC gear. ALL gear is loaded with stamina now. Good luck overhealing a well-geared tank.

There's two kinds of boss fights in WoW: endurance and speed. Disc is better for the long fights, and holy is better for the short fights with hard-hitting mobs. Then of course there's the Patchwerks, which require huge heals over a long period of time =x

Anyway, I think the real question is, why would you roll a priest if you don't like healing? :o that would be like rolling a mage and not liking to dps. Sure, a priest can do some dps, but it's by design that they don't have as many dps tools as an actual dps class... but a priest has the most healing versatility of all. greater heal, flash heal, renew, pw:s, prayer of healing, prayer of mending, binding heal, circle of healing, lightwell, desperate prayer... not enough healing versatility there?
