Also post your graphics card (and make sure any supported vista drivers are updated).
Anyone know if ATI are having the same probs?

Of course it doesn't work. Vista does NOT support opengl, which is required to play half-life. Although you can use software mode or direct 3D. Both modes do not work well, be aware.

Pretty funny that it works in OpenGL in Vista. FUD.

I've had this mouselag problem in the past with HL1 mods, usually seemed to crop up after a video driver update or a steam/engine update.
I'm using these launch parameters: -dev -noforcemparms (<- not even sure if this is doing anything) -noforcemaccel -noforcemspeed (<- to axe the in-game mouse acceleration)
The lag is there with windows mouse acceleration both on and off.
Also, i noticed in the screen shots posted above, their scoreboard icons are visible. Mine are all just black silhouettes.
Quick specs for the record:
WinVista Ultimate x64
p4 3.0ghz
1gb RAM
geforce 7800GT 256mb w/97.46 drivers
@<b>Elite_Noob</b>: Your problem is that you're running NS under a 64-bit OS. The gamma ramp issue is known under ALL 64-bit OSes. Add the line "cl_gammaramp 0" to your config.cfg file.
The other issue you have is you're running NS in too low a screen res. NS has issues with anything below 800x600, and not everythig is perfect even at 800x600. Run it in 1024x768 and see if the problem persists.
@<b>Lofi</b>: Same fix as above.
The Gamma ramp problem was covered AGES ago, under XP x64. It was confirmed then, that it's a problem with 64-bit OSes. I can't help any further, with mouse issues, because I don't run Vista (yet).
Ok, first things first. Until Half-Life is fully supported under Vista, then no mods will be. Ever. You can't give support for something, when the product it's based on isn't supported in your configuration/

Actually I'm running Windows Vista 32bit (Vista Business, if it matters). I normally play NS under 800X600 but I already tried to play it in 1024X768 and it still is dim and lags a whole lot. The mouse issue is the same in any resolution I play NS in. I even tried is in D3D and Software mode along with OpenGL.
Hopefully Valve wakes up and updates the Half-Life engine to work with Vista.

So you are not the only one that has the problem
Turning the gammaramp off (cl_gammaramp 0) will fix the graphical errors. It's a documented problem, and there is nothing that UWE can do about it. People just aren't willing to try any solutions given to them...
i vote AGAINST the vista. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad-fix.gif" />
only for DX 10 i cannot wanna get this. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad-fix.gif" />
Can anybody verify that cl_gammramp set to "1" does not fix this problem?

It doesn't work! I tried it. Next idea anyone?

If someone gives you a possible fix, then actually try it.
cl_gammaramp is set to 1 by default. This is why you're getting the problem.
Use the following code to disable it...
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->cl_gammaramp 0<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
Vista Ultimate 64 Bit
Nvidia 6800 Ultra

Please try out some of the suggestions in other threads though, namingly graphics drivers (If available), and the time-honoured

Which is known to fix this error...
Much appreciated.
Yannic, first of all, congratulations on finding a post with a problem similar to what you're experiencing. Instantly, you rank above pretty much all people who post in this subforum.

Alright it plays, but it is still VERY dim. Any thoughts how to brighten it up?
Elite_Noob the only sugestinon i can think of is to tweek the monitor brighteness, or go into the videocard advance controlls and tweek gamma (the game may or maynot override these). I have tweeked mine to where it actually looks pretty decient.

Go into the Video section, and adjust the gamma and/or brightness up to a reasonable level. Disabling the gamma ramp means that the game relies on you telling it what gamma to set the whole thing at. Which you do in the video section, under Gamma...
