cl_gammaramp 0 should fix the problem. This is due to the problem that bad support with Vista/gammaramp. (That makes if you are a programmer, don't try using SetGammaRamp() ... it will not work).
lmao what a ###### i am <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
i just bought a new gfx card (i was just using an onboard to fix this - and prepare my pc for ns2) - stuck it in and had the same issue.

NS attempts to ramp up the gamma in order to induce a higher contrast between the bright and dark areas, to make a "fake darkness" feel without actually making the game dark. (I am sure many of you have seen the overly bright and high contrast desktop after a NS crash ...) It turned out it didn't work well on some systems, 64bit systems among others.
Without having any system available to actually test it on (our computers all ran it fine), we resorted to "cl_gammaramp 0" to allow players to disable the feature. In effect, NS would not attempt to overrun any gamma settings set by for example third party programs or drivers.
The in-game commands "gamma" and "brightness" might also help, but in some cases this is not enough. I then recommend seeking out options in your drivers, most drivers have the option to manually set the gamma.
Ok so i put my gamma and brightness right up in game. The game crashed and then i restarted it. Played for about 30 mins then quit. Got an error message as i quit. Whn i get on my desktop my whole screen has gone a funny greeny/yellow colour. Reset monitor and GFX drivers back to factory default and the problem still persists.
