I would have to say: TFC CS and CS:S NS(prior 3.0) Diablo 2 LOD HL1/2 These games have consumed so much of my time and it was well worth it. I have enjoyed many more games but these really stick out for me as the most fun.

Shadow of the Colossus.
Amazing visuals, score, and gameplay. Best.Game.Ever. The only problem was it's only for the sh*tty PS2, so there's plenty of slowdowns(Kinda makes things dramatic during a battle).
Natural-Selection Although most of the games I play are heavily skill stacked, the games that have each player doing their part are the greatest. If I need my FPS fix, this is it.
Magic The Gathering When I'm with my buddies, a game of MTG is gold. We don't play constructed, or buy boosters. We just play with theme decks, so we all play with crap. Each game is never the same and the strategy to play this is incredible.
Well that's in terms of gameplay of the game, which I judge my games by.
I also like games for their stories like Killer7 or Beyond Good & Evil. But stories are one-shot linear experiences, while gameplay goes on forever...

1. Natural Selection No game have I been so bad at, yet been so in love with. Lots of skill needed, tons more strategy, and arguably revolutionary...and frankly, even despite its old-old-old graphics, I know I can still go back at any time and completely lose myself. Its a requirement to have it on every new hard drive.
2. World of Warcraft For all the ######, moaning, groaning and arguing people have over this game, I frankly love it. They managed to not slaughter the lore as we all thought with BC, the graphics, thanks to a hell of an art direction are nothing short of amazing(if you want proof, I've got dozens of screenshots of what its like on my screen- pure beauty, when cranked to the max, including hardware-based AA and ASF), the sounds and music are great, the class balance is well done and diverse, the PvE is the best that has ever existed in an MMO, and the PvP is fast as hell. Love it.
3. Shadow of the Colossus The only game I've ever re-bought. I usually keep my disks in perfect order, but this one was just a bit off, and so I got it again. Every time I think about what I want to do with my life, generally this one shows up in my head. I pray to God that this game gets the recognition in the world it deserves- as frankly, most still-art doesn't even measure up visually or interpretationally, let alone in cinematic quality.
4. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion This is a funny one for me. I usually don't think of it, but when I do- I realize, I've spent 480 hours playing this game. Rogues, Warriors, Mages, Priests, Summoners, Marksmen, hell, Illusion-Pacifists: I've done it all, and despite the fact that to this day, I hate every single animation in the game, the rest is so perfect that I can let that slide.
5. Freedom Fighters Freedom Fighters inspired me, as an artist, as an activist, and as an idealist, to not only take a stand, but to rethink patriotism. Before playing this, I didn't think I loved America. I didn't think I'd ever fight for it. I even talked about going to Japan. This game made me understand that not only would that be a terrible mistake, but that this country is not only worth fighting for, that its worth dying for, and that no politician, no rhetoric, and no amount of BS will make me sit down when they try and cull the freedoms that created America. With an art style that is nearly impossible to borrow without outright stealing from(imagine a noir-ish New York, where the cops are traditional SS-Commies style, and the good guys look like Terrorists's whose headpieces/clothing is the American flag itself), a soundtrack that in my eyes has yet to be matched, and quite frankly the best AI-based gameplay I've ever had, its impossible to not give it a nod.
Must Mention, though, while my favorite developer has jumped over the years(first Squaresoft, then VALVe, then UWE), I think its going to be sitting where it is now for one hell of a long time: 42 Entertainment. They've done two games that not only have I spent untold hours 'playing', but they made me rethink gaming as an entire medium- not just that it can be an art, but furthermore, that it can be whatever the hell I want it to be. ILoveBees and Year Zero are some of the best entertainment experiences EVER, and in the case of ILB, the 'marketing' was even more fun than the game itself.
Patriotism in freedom fighter? *remembers uninstalling that game*
I got as far as the level where you get to a train. Seems like another run n gun to me, where enemies cant aim and you can somehow take a lot of bullets and heal deep wounds with some medkit.
The story... well your brother gets kidnapped, you meet some group um...?
Well, I never did get far, so I wonder what there would be better later on.
Natural Selection. I made so many friends and had so much fun playing this game when it first came out, from these friends I learned much of what I do now regarding PCs.
the ones I listed are games that just gripped me and had me either missing sleep or eagerly running home from school/university/work to come back to :3
~huggles shocksy~ anyone who loves bubble bobble is good with me :D
man i forgot about doom!!!! lol. neone else done doom 2 100% ultraviolence? i dont just mean finish the game i mean 100% secrets and items too

I am a spaz and forgot to put on HL.
Honestly, HL2 Ep1 is one of my favorite games so far. After goign through the comentary I realyl wish they had left it where you don't end up with a weapon untill a good chunk of the game is done, thus forcing you to rely on Alyx.

You were on a decent difficulty level, right? Heck, other than the first, its nigh impossible to survive without using your troops really efficiently. And the enemies get more accurate as difficulty goes up/enemies get stronger.
And the story, sure,y our bro gets kidnapped, and you get lucky when you were able to join the resistence, but it gets supremely good later. As for a train, I don't remember that part, but if you didn't get to the other major point in the game, you really are missing out.
easily brings back the fonded memories of any game I've ever played. I want to play it again so badly.
