You needed two nades each, I thought just one did the trick.

    Just beat it, great mod.

Wow, just finished it. Absolutely amazing. I got stuck at a few parts, but I figured everything out on my own eventually except for the whole you have no weapons for a long time thing. Quanaut helped me out on that, otherwise I would have been pretty puzzled. In fact, using Steam's fun little friends thing, I asked someone every time I got stuck, but I always managed to figure it out right as they replied. Funny, that.

I've never been so pumped to go back and replay an entire level backwards before. Halo should take a page from this guy.

I can't wait for more! Why he doesn't have a job at Valve yet is beyond me.

Great level design but the messages kill the mood. "You're a worthless cretin, you'll die soon! Blah blah blah." Dull and stupid.

The only complaint about the messages I have is that they sometimes seem a bit crude compared to the flair of, say, Durandal. But then again, that's a high mark to reach.

He doesn't cause he completely rejects their level creating process, where you make it with the blank textures to start with then playtesting that and finishing with texturing. He believes the visuals are deeply a part of the gameplay.
  • TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
Yeah well if he doesn't like their process then he can do it his own way. They'd be silly not to tell him "look, we need a level. It needs to be about this long, about this hard, and in this part of the game. Just tell us what props you need and go to town."

I'm not sure, but I think he's not that interested in doing it as a career. It's just a hobby for him, not a job.

But the way it turned out worked really effectively. The big thing is the visual differences between when you went in and when you came out.
I'm really happy that nobody's complained about this vaguely Halo-esque reuse of maps.

It's actually why I included the fourth chapter with the third - I thought people would think a separate episode with rearranged maps would be considered 'cheap' - and also partly why this release has taken so long.

For some reason, I thought that applying some damage and adding some zombies to existing maps would be an easy task - but it turned out to take ever-so-slightly longer. It wasn't a Bungie-style, straight control-C, control-V in the end...

As for the passage of time - you may note that the tide has gone out slightly too. Verisimilitude FTW!

    He also states he's working on something new with Episode 2 stuff <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> (I think Valve gave him a deserved sneak-peek)

Cool to see him replying to posts over there. Some one will have to make sure to inform us all next time he releases something.

So I finally bought Orange Box, mainly for this, and I wasn't disappointed. This is better than anything Valve has ever done (although parts of Episode 2 came surprisingly close), but now I'm stuck waiting what will undoubtedly be a very long time once again. I don't know who fails at episodic gaming more - Valve or this guy, but they're certainly both contendors.

I do agree that the mod itself is pretty awesome, but the text kinda bothers me. it's like flagrantly pseudointellectual. It's trying to sound smarter than you while it in fact makes no sense.

You're just bitter because it outsmarted you.

I think that's on purpose. Minerva is trying to sound smarter than you.
