If you based Xbox 360/PS3 on innovation, creativity and originality they'd be stuck back at PS1-gen. I don't like labelling generations by graphics, it's not right. The wii could probably play AC, just not at the uber-high graphic settings which PS3/X360 are capable of. Wouldn't look great but it probably wouldn't look terrible either.

A major part of what both microsoft and sony are playing for is to control the media tunnel to the living room. They will both be offering IPTV/PVR functionality next year, and they will both be selling music and movies via their online stores. I think the Wii is next-gen in terms of gaming, and more than that, it has the potential to create a whole new gaming market for Nintendo, but it isn't anywhere in the race for next generation of content delivery. Look, it can't even play dvds, but I doubt anyone in Nintendo really cares about that, especially considering the massive demand for the console right now.
Back on topic, I think you may have just had a general system failure rather than something triggered by Assassin's creed itself. Sony have a very high yield on PS3 production, with only a 4% failure rate on consoles shipped, but I think you are unlucky to be on of the 4% who bought a console that was faulty in some way.
( on the other hand, I think the 360 failure rates are somewhere near 30% )

Nope, there is no way in hell. Thats a hell of a lot of AI routines to run though- on average about 160 going at anyone time(according to Ms. Pretty) that are all trying to determine dozens of things around in real time. The Wii just doesn't have the processing power.
I label "generations" of consoles by raw processing power and new technology, much like the rest of the world. You <i>can't</i> compare the 360 and PS3 to the Wii, it just doesn't work.
Wow, i'm gone for a week (by not visiting these forums) and now I have accidently almost started a console war.
Easy guys and gals. lol
BTW. I still love my PSP. Castlevania: SOTN ftw! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
I'll pick up a PS3 again sometime after Christmas. Just depends on money and what car modifications I want to get.

Right now, only the 60 gigs are FULLY backwards compatible.
Other ones are minorly compatible, you will just have to wait for firmware updates on the others to play more older PS1/PS2 games. So it will take time, not sure if short or long, but go with the long.
PS2s are cheap anyways. Just a bummer you can't find the good bulky ones anymore.

The 80GB model is the only one that is fully backwards compatible. It has two PS2 hardware components. The 60GB model only has one chip, and software emulates all functions of the emotion engine. It runs about 90% of PS2 games. The 40GB has no PS2 hardware, so it can't run anything other than PS3 games.

Frankly, I think the 40gb move was the stupidest possible. When I heard about the price cut and the 40gb having a few less features, I was excited as hell and getting out my wallet. Not having PS2 emulation(it still has PS1 emu) made me want to kick Sony in the face. KEEP ON MAKIN' THOSE MISTAKES SONY I'M SURE YOUR STOCKHOLDERS WILL LOVE IT
If I were to buy a PlayStation 3, I don't think the first thing on my list to play would be a PlayStation 2 game. I'd just buy a PlayStation 2 if I wanted to play PlayStation 2 games.

80 gigs. partially, need to d/l patches for the system to run more. that is all
40 gig...dont bother lol
60 gigger btw is discontinued. Will be made if you call Sony and make an order lol. Easier/cheaper to make a PS3 w/o the emotion chip which the 60 gig had.
To the average joe, the normal home-owner and gamer in the UK that's seen as "too technical". Downloading to get backwards compatibility? Why can't they just install a run of the mill bottom line emulation program for it?

See, I've been really energetic about getting a PS3, but quite frankly, I'm not getting one unless it has the maximum backwards compatibility. The 40gb hit the perfect price point for me, but without it, is a nigh useless machine. The entire list of games on it that I want to play is:
flOw Heavenly Sword Ratchet & Clank Resistence And because of recent reviews, maybe Drake's Fortune.
And none of those(other than perhaps Ratchet) I'm REALLY into. I was more buying in for future use, having a Blu-Ray player, and upgrading my PS2's games into HD(specifically Shadow of the Colossus).
As is, until I can get one with BC at $400, they don't have me.

It's just up sizing resolution. Take it as you will. Chances are it'll look better. The biggest thing is the fact that games that had bouts of lag because they were too badass (read: Shadow of the Colossus) will no longer lag and have a larger picture.
Also, isn't the 80gig fully backwards compatible and the 60gig the one you have to download? And, there is no huge technological know-how needed in using your PS3 - updates come on game CDs to be downloaded and installed from the CD automatically before you play, so you're kept up to date regardless of whether or not you can access the internet.
60 Gig.. fully backwards compatible 80 gig. partial. for now

How I know? Because I had one and I know everybody at the Gamestop next to my work. lol And a couple of cute girls at that Gamestop surprisingly. Time to get me a cute nerd girl! ^.^
My current gf is annoying me.
As for 40 vs 80. Just fork out the extra 100 for the 80. It's 2x the space and you can do more with it. The 40 gig is just a stand alone system.
Techincally...the GIG size doesn't matter. You can hook up a 500gig harddrive to the PS3 if you wanted to....horay computerstation? LOL
Edit: Can I get a title/sub title change? Maybe to: PS3 Chat - & Assassin's Creed flaw
Sony stated that every PlayStation and PlayStation 2 game that observes its respective system's TRC (Technical Requirements Checklist) would be playable on PS3 at launch. SCE president Ken Kutaragi asked developers to adhere to the TRC to facilitate compatibility with future PlayStations, stating that the company was having some difficulty getting backward compatibility with games that had not followed the TRCs. Initial NTSC PS3 units include (see circuit board image) the CPU/rasterizer combination chip used in the slim PS2 (EE+GS) to achieve backward compatibility.[102] The backward compatibility function is region-locked.[103]
Initially, at launch, approximately 3% of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 titles had minor compatibility issues, including poor audio, system freezes or controller malfunctions.[104] Popular games reported to have these glitches included Tekken 5 and Gran Turismo 4.[105] Many games had also been reported to have problems with garbled or unreadable text on-screen and generally blurry image quality, but the January 24, 2007 software release, which updated the system to version 1.50, has fully resolved this issue.[106]
Removal of hardware support
In order to reduce manufacturing costs,[107] the Emotion Engine (EE) is not included in European, Australian and South Korean systems.[22][108] The 80 GB model released in North America also lacks hardware support for legacy titles.[109] Software emulation is used in place of hardware support and as a result, backward compatibility for PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games is reduced.[107] Backward compatibility is improved periodically through PlayStation 3 System Software updates, however Sony has stated that its focus will eventually shift to developing content exclusively for the PS3.[110][107][111] In the 40 GB model, backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 titles was omitted completely;[30] compatibility for most PlayStation titles will still be provided through software emulation.[32]
On March 20, 2007 Sony released a compatibility list; 1,782 of the 2,451 PS2 games (72%) released in Europe were playable on the European PS3, subsequent system software updates have improved software backwards compatibility and added support for upscaling of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games up to 1080p resolution.[112] Upscaling can improve picture quality in some situations.[113]
The Japanese PlayStation and PlayStation 2 game compatibility database has been updated with system software update version 1.93 in September 2007 and is also available on the official Japanese PlayStation website.[114]<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Puzl: The US 80GB model is software emulation for the most part. I need to know this to not get fired where I work, so I keep up to date on it. The 60GB was hardware emulation, and it was more or less flawless except for a fraction of a percentage of games that don't work. Well, and it was also limited edition and can't be bought anymore.

The 60GB is not 100% backwards compatible. No version of the console ever sold in Europe is 100% BC.
You need the US 80GB model to have 100% hardware BC.
