looks like the website just started getting hammered again.
edit2: little story, on my first day I lucked out and caught a higher level guy who had all his files deleted, so he had no firewall and I got a .3 spam backdoor on him. That alone gives me 300e an hour, I just upgrade him to include the .6 mailer backdoor.
quick question, do hidden back door viruses still work? and if you have 2 spam viruses on his machine, do they both work or just the higher one, or the first one, etc.?

Hidden viruses work, hidden .rips also are ok.
If you look at your slaves page you will see what the viruses you have installed on each slave, and IIRC it will show that you only have a .vshare .6
Also, the level of the virus apparently does not matter if you are the only person slaving him. However if there are multiple viruses then the workload gets split amongst them, with the higher versions getting a larger share.
Basically: Each spam is worth 2 cents A CPU of X Speed sends out Y mails in an hour If you are the only person slaving him you get Y*.02 euros and hour If there are other people, well it gets split up and I don't know how exactly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

if I were making this, given what you already said, I'd normalize the shares like this:

I dono, I might weight higher versions more then lower versions simply because of the rapid growth in file sizes.
but yah, something along those lines <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
man, I want all this nice software but I still only have a 1gig drive. I'm waiting until I can at least get a 30gb drive before getting a new one though.

I've seen a 0.3 spam virus on the GS already. We need security.
I've been thinking about it a bit. But I can't test my theories since the site is down. Couldn't we just temp-hide the firewall when a new member wants to join? Then leave it running the rest of the time?
If that doesn't work. Maybe leave the firewall up all the time, and members can only join by upgrading to the point where they can support a 5.0 wwl and having an existing member upload it to them.
Also. I came across a 4.7 hider/unhider set. We should consider keeping the virus set hidden at a minimum. Possibly everything (request for upload system again)
I'm for taking down the firewall for new members only. And only when they have enough space to download the wwl and fwlso that way they can crack it again if the password or ip needs to be changed and they'll have added protection on their machine to further reduce the chances of our server being found.
edit: it wasn't one of us trying to take advantage of an available cpu was it?
I played Slavehack a lot 2 summers ago, not sure how my stats rank up now, but I think I had the best connection possible (100mbit) and the second best cpu available (2200mhz) It was fun at the time, might try it again if I can remember my password.. hopefully I'll still have my cool stuff and enormous piles of money.

I was gona say, do we want to virus up our GS?
I mean, I see no harm in it, and the CPU is horribly fast <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
no kidding, if we could be part of multiple GS servers we could set up a whole slew of them and rake in the dough. HOWEVER since there are a few of us it would get fairly slow, fairly fast.

That virus is mine, I figured I'd use the GS to try to recoup some of the costs of buying it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
We shouldn't need to be paranoid, Them... And leaving the Firewall hidden should be perfectly fine. I actually did hide that virus in hopes that you guys wouldn't notice it and get paranoid. Backfire I guess. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Yeah, the two problems are first that it would quickly be useless from us all wanting to virus it. The second being that it would then be at a greater risk of being discovered as it would show up in your logs when you collect from slaves.

Thirdly, it would quickly devolve into being unable to distinguish unwelcome virii, as well as the hassle of everyone re-infecting after a cleaning.
I can see how psyke would want to use it for a return on investment, but I think it should be kept clean.

I just finished gathering the best version of every program available <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
I'll be uploading the ones that are missing to the server if there's room. I'm also compiling a list of sorted program versions and which npc's they can be downloaded from. I'll be posting that list to the server when it's done.

24 hrs for the fwl <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
need to set my self a reminder to clear my logs when the crc is done (13 hrs)
we really should set up a #ns-sh room on gamesurge (though some one has to remember to set it to +s
uploading Serious marketing.mailer 1.1
edit: it's uploaded, under collectors.

upload bottleneck.
I need some more slaves....
I have 31 slaves spamming atm <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
unfortunately most of them are low level computers and have multiple vspams on them.
Speaking of making money, I'm uploading a low level warez cash collector to the GS. haven't used it yet, don't have any warez to upload.
edit: upload complete
Seems like some one managed to completely take down the server now ;(
