We are to have female marines, correct?
    <b>This is unrealistic.</b>

Then all other realism associated with this is to be thrown out of the window and blamed on nanites/steroids.

I don't think it is unrealistic to have female marines. That's where we disagree. We have them in our modern militaries, why wouldn't they be in the future? If you want to be all stingy about it, create a marine gender ratio. Calculate the current growth of females in a modern army and advance it however many years into the future. NS2 does not have to be realistic, but it is based off realism to be convincing.

However, back to the original topic. I do think that the female marine should have single plate chest armor instead of the formed one she currently has. Its not practical in use and it is probably not comfortable to wear since she has a clothing under it which probably is not figure molded.

Let's apply this affirmation to other situations. Marines fighting aliens in spaceships. This is unrealistic. Commander materializes buildings from nothing. This is unrealistic too. Hives and chambers starts to spawn a living tissue (DI) without even feeding themselves or consumpting matter to produce it. Unrealistic, you've guessed.

Anyway, how do you know in future won't exist female marines if they even exist today (ask uncle google)? Blame the nanites/steroids by male/female similarities as we blame the construction method. If I play NS and see female marines walking at same speed rate of a male marine, this will be one of the last things that will break my immersion.

And the topic itself, as Sirot said... don't know...
A single plate seems much sturdier. And, if I was an armor designer, I would think first in securancy rather than it sexy appealing (put lipstick in her model if you miss the last item...). But, actually, to me, doesn't matter, it's a videogame... As long you can't instantkill a marine bitting it's head, there's no problem about this.

Yea there are female marines, as long as their MOS isn't infantry. The only army I know to date that hires female infantry is the Israeli army, and that is more of a deficiency in manpower kind of deal than anything. (women are required to serve for 2 years, men have to serve 3) I've never heard of an elite female soldier, please prove me wrong!

Yes, where were you going with this? I guess I didn't make my stance clear. I think that female marines should be in NS just because they were in Aliens. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/marine.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::marine::" border="0" alt="marine.gif" />

It's true that female infantry is rare and most often occurs when there is a lack of recruitment among males, see your example and the current American soldiers in Iraq. There are a lot of reasons for this, not just that men are slightly better suited for it. More than anything, it is just embarrassing for women to serve because defending the den is the male's job in popular opinion. Something that is being more leeway as people get farther away from the old mentalities. After Iraq and the female troops that served there, there is going to be a precedent to allow more women to join the infantry. This makes female marines in NS2 a realistic idea if current events progress. I don't really like the military but I do think it should have an equal opportunity even if being infantry is a somewhat crappy job. You are outright dismissing that possibility though because it never happened before.

Made sure you don't miss the point this time.

Read it carefully and read it at least five times. Let it sink in for a couple of hours. Rinse afterwards.

I've come to realise Anytime is just a nerd who likes to create debate/arguments over things which are generally not relevant to NS and that no one really gives a ###### about.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->December 22, 2005: In Iraq, women have finally joined the infantry. It's become customary to request volunteers from among women soldiers and marines, to accompany infantry units conducting searches and raids. This is done because you cause a major cultural uproar if male troops search Iraqi women, and if you don't search the women, the Iraqi men know they can hide weapons, or other stuff (explosives, documents) under the women's clothing. So, over the last two years, more and more female soldiers and marines go out on the raids.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

There are not official infantry, but might as well be. This is an article from two years ago and it is even more prevalent since the war became unpopular.

Honestly, I am going to take haymo's advice and just stop enabling you.

More prone to ligament & skeletomuscular injuries
    Smaller bone structure/weaker frame
Females don't have the same physical strength or endurance as males, especially in the upper body.
Females are more susceptible to short term stress, which is what counts in combat (females are much less susceptible to long term depression though)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Actually I had heard they did a study on this. As far as quick thinking, men do far better in the short term, choosing a path and committing do it more often than not. Women tended to make a better decision in the long run, calculating all necessary variables. When it comes to combat (infantry), you have a male lead, not a female.

Seeing as there *are* female marines, I find your statement both ironic and silly. You might as well say that diamonds or those tiny endangered monkeys are unrealistic.

I think anytime just made a typo in that one sentence. The original concern was that 50/50 male/female marine would be unrealistic, which he countered by saying, basically, "the rest of the game is unrealistic too so who cares", then people started getting on his grill about female marines being unrealistic period.

Rather then be a 50/50 mix why not just let the player pick if they want to be a male or female in there console?
