Whenever Cory replies to a thread he gives it such a justified reason. It just makes me want to say to the topic opener or hater in each thread he posts and scream "Take that you foolish mortal!".
Wasn't the trailer an in-game cinematic? So you've seen stuff in-game.
Everything, that they have released, is doable in game and/or using the cinematic tools editor..
I really think the reveals are just Raw animations to be honest, while this marine reveal, was actually just a small map portion they made, along with 3 marines standing in different positions then Prnt scrn or w/e inbuilt program they have used to take the picture on maximum graphics possible..
Thats what i think. Seriously if that marine pic is truly rendered in game... that is just wow the detail on it is perfect imo.

First, as with most games being developed, that starts with stand in models for the marine, skulk, and machine gun, moving around with no animations, in a greybox room environment. Then we get a final model of the marine, and it gets swapped in. Then we get a final model of the skulk and swap it in. Then machine gun, environment assets, animations, etc. And after all that, as at the start, you can still run around jumping and shooting at a skulk controlled by another player. However, at that stage it's still not ready to be shown to the public. Particle effects for the machine gun need to be created, a finalized environment needs to be polished up, lighting has to be done, and sound effects created and added. You get the idea.
As much as people love to say how they want to see anything from the actual game, the average public is not discerning enough to be able to separate what is still in a stand in and unfinished form from how the final game is going to look. Trust me, having worked at various companies for years, a game in the development process is not a pretty thing to look at, and you'd be surprised how much actually comes together right at the very end.

No actually we are all just a random collection of electrical and computer engineers + some computer scientists, and counter strike players sprinkled on top that don't actually play NS1.
Seriously who would actually want to play NS1 that doesn't also play with microcontrollers and candy-coated DVMs and scopes and omfg FPGA chips + vhdl are the most sexy thing ever devised by man!!!! And of course we know as much about guns as we do about electronics... damnit.
This is most certainly not the "general public". You see that only when you actually "play" NS1 :P

I am going to be a undergrad computer science student in like 3 months, which should be fun. Go go being young and self-taught.
I would be honestly surprised that if even 50% of us are engineers, computer scientists or the like. Video games have branched out a lot to many demographics and have gone way beyond technology enthusiasts.
I'm the odd one out D: Bachelors in Math and Physics and getting PhD in Biophysics. But I am currently in a circuitry class and I can program C++ with the best of em so I guess you guys can lump me in there with the nerds :P
