Science and art are one and the same... At least the theoretical sciences. Math is our instrument and we play the universal symphony, it takes the utmost creativity to see the world in numbers.
I'm kind of weird, I had a major background in the arts, about 10 years of musical performance, before I decided to become a scientist. Still do play music, and you'd be flabbergasted to know the fraction of the orchestra here thats made up of theoretical scientists :P As for the engineers I say this...
To a scientist or artist, the perfection of nature is to be explored and admired. To an engineer, it is to be exploited.

Heard a joke about engineers the other day. Gotta tell it now.. :D
A man was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to him and said: "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess". He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said: "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for one week." The man took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket. The frog then cried out: "If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I'll stay with you and do ANYTHING you want". Again the man took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket. Finally, the frog asked: "What is the matter ? I've told you I'm a beautiful princess, that I'll stay with you for a week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss me ?" The man said, "Look I'm a software engineer. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog is cool."

Alright so theres an engineer, a physicist, and a mathematician. They each go into a room with a fire in the middle and a bucket of water. The engineer solves this quickly by pouring the water on the fire and putting it out. The physicist isolates the system from the universe by pouring water around it and lets it burn itself out. The mathematician walks in convinces himself that a solution exists and leaves.
