SSDs are an immature, emerging technology. Give it some years and we might all be using them. Or not. But it's definitely too early to proclaim them failed yet.

Yeah you know, I do get pants-based activity when watching these BF3 trailers, I mean, it's a PC exclusive and it looks gorgeous so what's to hate about it?
Oh yeah, origin... right... EA... right...
Well, if it ever does come to Steam I will get it. Steam is too ****ing convenient to NOT have my games on there. Do I really want to deal with EA customer support when I lose a CD key and move to a new computer, or forget my Origin account because BF3 would be the only game I play on there?
No. You had your chance EA and Valve beat you to it and took you to brown town to boot. You lost, don't try to compete, just surrender and submit to the sssssteam.

As someone who works in the industry... they have not failed.
My TL;DR review is that it doesn't seem to add much to the franchise. The web-based server browser is an abomination, but the game itself is pretty fun. Awful server browsers are definitely nothing new for Battlefield. In general, the game doesn't feel much different than BC2 or BF2. Neither of the levels I played so far had vehicles, and vehicles are what I'm after in a Battlefield game, so that doesn't help my opinion much. the map is harder to read and it's harder to choose your spawn spot.
One thing that bothered me is I snuck up on a guy who was standing still. I was about 8 feet from him, facing his back. It took emptying a whole clip into his back to kill him -_- I don't want hyper-realistic one to two shot kills but I don't want bullets to just tickle either

That seems indeed quite excessive on the bullet resistance part...
So how many vehicles are planned... 5 or something, taken from some obscure source I don't remember the source for anymore? I just want the amount of vehicles Forgotten Hope has dammit, or at the very least similar to BF1942's amount. Battlefield was introduced as vehicle based: ground, naval, aerial and infantry combat... It looks to be mostly infantry based with a few vehicles dropped in like BFBC has, however it's lacking the destructive environment on the scale of BFBC? o.o

When you can have entire builds made for 3 different platforms out in almost half the time, including texture generation and compression, you know it's worthwhile technology.

Maybe you we're lagging and didn't realize it? Compared to all other Battlefield games players in BF3 die very quickly, especially at close range. In BF:BC2 and BF2 I was able to just run around the map and wait for someone to shoot at me so I could fight back. When I try this in BF3 I get dropped -- fast. You actually have to prone / crouch and move slow in order to be productive. Also, why don't you like the web based server browser? Because it's a webpage it refreshes almost instantly, you're at your desktop so you don't have to alt-tab out of anything, and as long as you have Origin open the game instantly loads. Group/Parties stay persistent, you can join as one and the server holds everyone's spot for a minute, etc. Although there are a handful of problems I can't see why you'd call it an abomination.
Right now my biggest complaint: 1) Rush mode -- I've always hated it and I'm disappointed we didn't get a conquest map for beta. 2) Squads. Squads (in theory?) are created randomly or when players use the 'join as group' feature. The 'join as group' feature does not always consistently make squads and keeping up with buddies can be difficult to do since you can't create/join squads in game.

The beta build we're playing is months old at this point. The internal version they have has all the bugs fixes. This is for stress testing and back end stuff. I didn't like the battlelog at first during the alpha but when you get over the fact that you don't launch the game to find servers you'll realise that it's the best server browser DICE has ever made. It takes about 5 times less to actually find and join a server compared to
Launching game Wait for splash screens Logging in Pick soldier Click multiplayer Wait for servers to populate Wait for map to load Play
Battlelog:
Launch website Login Click server browser Join server
Yeah it's a bit facebook or whatever. But that's a good thing. Integrated friends, stat tracking and server browsing? I'll take that over the old way.
Also, if the flashlight makes retail in it's current form then DICE is horrible.
Personally, I don't think the flashlight should be in the game at all. At the very least the range at which it affects a player's vision needs to be dramatically reduced.

When I try to join a server it does the entire process down in the browser corner (loading map, logging in etc) until it says Finished! and shows the "Go to game" button (BF3 starts minimized in taskbar), but when I click go to game or bf3 in the taskbar it just shoves me to a neverending splashscreen which says "loading...metro" with some tips rolling continuously by. It appears to not be frozen and I get fullscreen but I have to alt+f4 or alt+tab to get out of it. I've tried tons of servers and I even got the preview drivers hotfix for my graphics card (radeon HD 5770) and checked that the correct version is installed but it still fails to load a game. I've tried Firefox and Chrome browsers, I've tried closing steam, I've even tried launching battlelog from steam (to get steam overlay).
Suggestions? I have played before without any problems and now suddenly it does not work, I can't think of anything in particular I might have installed to eff it up.

I played it some last night on 360 (/me ducks). Not too shabby if I do say so. There are definitely some lag issues that make it seem like you're not doing damage, but it's a beta. I figure those guys I killed were dead after the first 3 shots, the rest of the 20 shots I put in to them just happened because I wasn't sure. Also I may have been screaming like a school girl and hammering down the trigger.

Wrong. Just alt+tab anytime and choose "close game" in the lower left corner of the browser.
I never liked BF games, unless I was not taking them serious... but BF 3 may change that... first game today felt good.
Edit: Round 2... yeah I'm liking this... first BF since the original that I like... hits seem to properly register and I don't have to wait ages for a response... still can't tell where enemies are and I die randomly but that's cool... I'll get used to it.

Other SATA ports make it go again though, perhaps mah PC is slowly dieing...
