Sorceress basically shoots magic at the enemy until they fall down. It's what the mage class DOES in this kind of game. Deviating from it would be like the barbarian deviating from hitting the enemy with large and sharp/pointy/heavy things.
Demon Hunter kinda sux at taking out large numbers of generic mooks, so she just kinda sux overall since that's what you spend most of your time doing in Diablo games. But Evasive Fire does look cool as hell with my two-handed crossbow, feels like an AWP. Also 25 damage per hit at level 8 is pretty excellent.

Coming from someone who currently has the F&F, it's very short. However, you can spend many hours upgrading your caravan/crafting weapons/king leoric runs!
Okay, someone help me out here. I feel like I'm trying to like the game. I may still be biased, but I'm trying. But, honestly, I don't see the appeal.
First question: are the annoying click-blips that show where you're walking actually in the game? Or is that some kind of post processing on the video. They are annoying if they're in the game.
Skill system: Absolutely inane. What's the point in limiting you when you can just run around an hot swap? You're not making choices, Blizzard is just saying that you're making choices. At least make you go back to town to switch out, but wait -
Apparently it's stupid to go to town, ever. Apparently action pacing must describe pure action with no down time or else it sucks. I thought a good action adventure had to include some down time to give the action parts more juice and meaning. I guess you could say that killing zombies is downtime, but wait-
Every kill results in a body being flung 30 meters away. I guess I'm just that awesome. Well, I guess if I got a higher level skill, I'd want it to kill them even harder, so what happens then? 60 meter fling? Full body explosion? Explosion with body parts going to the four corners of the screen? As the video commentator would say, "That would be beautiful."
Everyone touts the Lore on the Fly, because again it gets in the way of beating things up. A game is a total package; how hard was it to skip the dialogues in Diablo? I guess it was hard enough that now there's an option to not even listen to it ever.
If it's so important to beat things up and not identify items or go back to town, or just mill around a bit, then let's get rid of the story and town entirely. Let's make a game that constantly generates new stuff in front of you, and you just murder it.

[edit]Oh, yeah. I enjoy the personal best most awesome kill streaks with extra XP rewards. Can we get a mod for it where the Arch Angel Tyrael announces your kill streaks like in UT?

I can sympathize with some of this, at least the parts about choice and mindlessness. I actually like the fast pacing and the unmistakable Blizzard polish can be found in the beta for sure. Even though the beta is short, it's undeniably sweet and addictive.
What bothers me though is how little you can customize your builds and how they seemingly want to cater to the casual crowd. I loved planning out characters in Diablo 2, I also loved how unforgiving it was and how one mistake could get you killed or even more or less ruin your character (at least before they introduced respeccing). Sure it was frustrating, but it also meant that when you succeeded in something it really felt like an accomplishment. That more than made up for all that frustration in my eyes.
Now when I'm running around in Diablo 3 every class feels like a jack of all trades. "Oh, a big group of mobs, lets use this set of skills. Hey, there's a boss, let's switch over to this set and own him". There's quite literally no customization of your character at all during the course of the beta, except for equipment. Hopefully this problem will be lessened once you find runestones for your skills and some more diverse equipment. I'm keeping my hopes up.

I guess everyone likes different things, because that's one of the big reasons I stopped playing Dialbo II and have developed a general dislike for in most post-diablo-2 RPGs. I prefer just playing the game and enjoying myself with friends instead of having to stop every time I levelled up to put on the lab coat, break out the talent calculator and start doing goddamn string theory on my character build to make sure I don't undo all my hard work with an ill-placed talent/skill point.
I play games for fun and immersion not for a hard-core course in mathematics and surprise statistics. My analysis paralysis doesn't need feeding :p
I DO however agree that downtime is a good thing. It gives players time to socialise and it keeps the rollercoaster fresh... you can only fall so far before you hit terminal velocity after all :3
Yeah, I have to say I prefer if things that permanently ###### your character over are left as optional challenges. Though I didn't have that much issue with D2 since I never could be bothered getting further than act 1 in Nightmare, and everything before that is doable enough with most any build.

From what I've seen on D3 and PoE I'm more excited about PoE. Watching people play players notice the changes PoE makes to gameplay while in D3 people notice the convenience and streamlining.

Wish I had the beta to either.

Now, THAT's more like it. I'm also watching Grim Dawn.
Torchlight received universal praise for its pet mechanic. The ability to load down your pet with unwanted loot and send it off to town to sell it all off was nifty, and took the chore out of vendor runs. That's streamlining at its best. This genre is about hacking monsters apart, not about forced downtime. If I want a break, I'll take a goddamn break. I don't need the game to hold my leash and tell me when I have to stop and sell off loot.
The thing is, without being forced to take a mental break somehow, players usually keep playing until they're sick of it. Remember that interview with Valve when they spoke of combat fatigue and why they had puzzles intermittently?

I concede this point. My nostalgic self is at work with the town thing. However, watching the video above, I feel like what Blizzard is doing is basically an ego stroke. "You're so incredibly awesome! Everything you hit just BLOWS THE HELL UP!" There's something about the action that pisses me off. Conversely, looking at the Path of Exile action, I'm excited.
I guess the difference is PoE makes it feel like you're really trying hard to be a badass, where as Diablo 3 basically wants to take control of the whole game so you can watch how totally awesome you are. That's the biggest flaw of Metal Gear Solid and a reason I almost don't even like it (and I love MGS... a lot): I know I can never be as awesome in the game as Snake is in the cut scenes, but then, I play MGS just for that violence porn.
I played Diablo because it was dark, evil, and dangerous. And it had subtle and satisfying sounds and mini games. I consider the inventory a mini game, it was fun for me to move stuff around and it was even fun to agonize over what to keep and what to toss. I mean, you'd agree that Diablo is equally about loot and action, right? Loot, loot, loot!!! The management of your treasures should be a big part of the game, too. So you feel good about all the heads you took to get that item.
That's just me, though. I think (hope) at least some people feel the same way I do, and our discontent of Diablo 3 is the result of a full court press on everything we used to love about the game.
I do feel kind of the same way, Rob, but I do want to get my hands on some gameplay to see if my concerns are well founded. I really enjoyed the end game content of D2 and played the hell out of it. For now I've only seen low-level gameplay which I find overall pretty slow and dull. I hope that you get a big increase in movement and attack speed as you progress, especially when it comes to the wizard. The feeling of teleporting around at very high cast rate while spamming spells everywhere in D2 was quite enjoyable for me, and from what I've seen in D3 everything seems to be slower. Maybe that was just to showcase the abilities better.
Combat does not seem enjoyable to me, but sadly I can only say for sure once I get to try it.
I enjoyed running, but hated stamina. Silly stamina :p
I'd go for ages not needing a stamina potion to the point I'd just sell/drop them to make space for more valuable stuff and then, once I had none left at all, and only then, I'd suddenly find myself out of stamina and desperately needing one of those previously useless vials XD
As for needing a break, there's more than one way to achieve it. For example, Most of Halo is built very carefully off research into player's "action endurance" with lulls between fights where you travel, scavenge or explore without enemies providing the downtime rather than a town trip. A slightly more relevant example would be Dungeon Siege where you never really went back to town, and often had long journeys between towns so downtime was again provided by travel and exploration in gaps between enemy encounters.
...then again, on the flipside of the coin, I didn't like torchlight much :p

Hope lots of invites get send out soon, looking foward to playing! Out of curiosity Panigg, are you already in the beta? I thought beta invites were only sent out by blizzard. Are people that are currently in the beta allowed to invite someone?
So far 2 is all I could get... since neither me nor my brother work there anymore my supply of betas has dried up.
So far every employee has gooten 5 invites and pretty much everyone I asked has already signed 5 people up... as soon as more are available I will add you to the lists, tho I have no idea when that could be.
