The State of NS1 and how it will affect NS2

Hello all NSPlayers still playing NS1 and hanging in ther for NS2. As many of you might know, NS1 is on it's last leg, and has been for a long time. The <BAD> clan has been keeping it going for as long as we possibly can, but it seems the end in starting to look inevitable. We would like to make the move to NS2, but that would mean taking our NS1 servers down and thereby ending this great game as we know it.
The reason for my post is to encourage anyone who still has love for this game, please feel e reach with NS1 then I believe it will make NS2 boom even more! We are losing more of our community base all the time and need to get people back into the game again.
Let's face it, NS2 is nnot ready for mainstream play yet. until that day comes, we all need NS1 for our playerbase to hang on too. Feel free to give your feedback or suggestions. Thanks.

As Obraxis has mentioned, you could trying proactively making the switch.

I just want to come in here and thank the entire Bad clan, their servers were literally the only way I was able to play NS1 regularly for years and years. All you need is 1 good server to keep that game alive, and the Bad Clan was always there to take the torch.
With that being said, Ns2 is designed to eventually replace ns1. And I find going back to NS1 is very hard after being used to Ns2.
Is it possible to have a <BAD> NS1 <b>and</b> NS2 server? :-/
<BAD> is already a good name, i'm pretty sure that when they make the switch veteran players will have no problem recognizing the great community and administration they've achieved over the years.
As others have stated, maybe get rid of the combat server. And leave a NS1/NS2 server for the time being. Other than that, I bet you will have no problems getting servers populated in NS2 whenever you decide to make the switch.

Wait wut. Then, uh, what's the problem? Just let NS1 die. It's old and fuggly.
Lies, Kalisto cheats!!! =P
Not sure if troll or incredibly stupid.
We're are currently working on getting a stable NS2 server working while still supporting NS1.
The server we had up until about an hour ago for NS2 crashed. It had 16 slots and was full. It was a bit choppy, and had some lag spikes but still playable for me at least. After the game ended, the server crashed. Any suggestions on how to improve the server's performance would deeply be appreciated. Thanks in advanced.
Every server is doing this crash at round end, at least all 4 of them I played on today did after every round. I would say 'its something in this build" but the servers were working fine yesterday....I am at a loss.
Ill second this! I have a server and a not quite sure if it can handle the game.
And no, not trolling. NS1 hasn't been patched in years. Let. It. Die.
NS2 does multithread some operations, but most of the program (and the main bottlenecking) occurs on a single core/thread. As such, OCing provids the greatest performance boost and the best-running servers are ones using newer i5/i7's OCd into the 4.5-5.0GHz range (i.e. 16-20 person servers). Though, the upside is that you can run an NS2 server for every N-1 cores on your processor (i.e. a quad-core 2500K can realistically host 4-1=3 NS2 servers).
Outta curiosity, how much memory per NS2 server instance is needed? i.e. using your 3 NS2 servers on an 2500k, what is the minimum memory? 8gb?
It's a great game and always will be. I hope I can say the same for NS2 when it's finished.
Edit: Not to say NS2 isn't good now, it just needs work. Also graphics aren't everything.

Apart from that your server specs would be fine.
Oh yeah, the NS2 server is running only one core at the moment, but from what I've read here that you can't really run it on multiple cores, correct? I'm not really tech savvy.
2.83ghz quad core xeo
4gb of ram
Keep in mind we're also have all these things running on the same box:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Core 1: Minecraft/HLTV1/HLTV2/Scripts
Core 2: Server 2
Core 3: Server 1
Core 4: NS2 Server 1<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The server will use an entire core the instant that 1 person joins the server, and it will slightly use another core, to about 27-30% of a total quad core. At 2.83ghz I believe you will still run into problems maintaining a tick rate the further the game goes along, with more players and buildings only creating more slowdowns.
A recommendation? Wait until its more optimized, or buy a chip which can be overclocked easily (2500K).
