NS2's biggest problem

Map control is practically impossible. You simply can't manage more then 2 RT's, because the game turns into a gigantic game of whack-a-mole. I often find myself frustrated as comm because the game literally is whack a mole. You constantly have to go send someone to kill something and there's no way to actually keep anything safe.
So what if you just killed 5 rines? Give them 30 seconds, they'll be back and repeat until your hive is dead. Not a damn thing you can do about it.

Yeah, this is basically true. It's the exact same as NS1 in this regard, except the maps are smaller and easier to cross.
Try encouraging teammates to stay posted near things they want to stay alive so they can kill aliens and make that a possibility.
You can't, obviously. That's why you have nanoshields, crags and other things to buy time while your structures tell you where things are. You have to scout your opponents and make educated guesses at where they will be. You can also execute your own strategy sort of 'in a bubble', to tell the opponents where they need to be. For instance, if they're making a small push at your hive but your team seems like it can defend, go counterattack and kill some res towers in the background. You don't have to play the entire game from a reactionary point of view.
I realize that was all really vague advice, but that's because your situation is silly. The game isn't meant for 4v4, and even 6v6 feels small at this point.
THIS.
and if you must play with such small team sizes, play rockdown. smallest map in the game currently.
for smaller games you need to accept a smaller, defendable res-flow.
I'm for bringing back electrified res towers to help this problem as well.
In Mineshaft's The Gap room, the RT is forever being taken down by aliens no matter what stage of the game or how much marines are winning or how skilled the marines are.
thats my biggest problem, lol. My model is infront of me :/. Also cant click the buy menus on 640x480 resolution and the map + hud dont fit on the screen and when people type their sentences go off the screen and I cant read them.
Don't play on dialup? Choose servers in your region?
?? lol.. so you joined a server on the other side of the world and its the game's fault?
try sorting your server by ping next time.
if you get spikes of latency, thats the server, still.
you may want to know that many do not have this issue.. its not reported anywhere. sounds like you got something odd going on with your own connection.
I only get this problem with ns2, and even when i get this ping on other games, they dont make me loose teh control over my character

Sorry for maybe sounding too rude but are you blind or can't read the full sentence? i said EVERY SERVER. i tried THEM ALL.
then check if you're getting some weird packet filtering or something
the problem is most definitely on your end, and we can't help you with no information. look at ironhorse's signature.
oh i read it, did you read what i wrote?
no one else is having this issue. its not being reported anywhere. you are the only one.
so perhaps there is something wrong with your setup? router? firewall? ISP?
Who will overcome said problem better?

Attitudes like this are disgusting. Most of us who play NS2 a lot have seen this issue, its even been visible in gathers.
I have no idea why certain people get ping spikes to 999 but it most definately IS an issue (even if temporary).
Get your head out of your ass.

Comes from the guy who has the same attitude back.
Don't teach the NS2 beta tester some manners when you can't even behave yourself.

Whatever the case, there IS an issue with people getting 999 ping. It might be rare, but it happens and theres nothing more frustrating than getting the standard Indian customer service line - your fault not ours. Essentially, Arga has a point - I think pt's shouldn't be so quick to dismiss cases without reading them properly. They have a direct line to the developers and to us mortal players are the gate keepers. When the gatekeepers don't read player problems properly and dismiss them as being non-issues simply because they were communicated in a way they don't like, it frustrates and alienates players who are having genuine problems. I mean really, even if you were playing from the other side of the world does constant 999 ping sound right to you? When people have problems, they rage and its expected. Rage and bad language doesn't necessarily mean that player's problems arn't genuine.
I don't presume to tell the pt's what to do (they have my respect for what they do) but there are some things that i would think are expected at the very least from the ground customer point of view. Basically, wearing a pt icon you represent UWE's customer goodwill as well as the reputation of all the other PT's. We are going to get a huge influx of new players over the coming months pre and post 1.0 and i'm skeptical they will be as understanding as people who have been around a while and know how the process works. I don't think any of us want lost sales.
In short: We can't help you if you don't help us.
When you join a server be sure to type net_stats in console and take screenshots (using F12 through Steam) so that we can get a clear image of what's going on as far as network concerns. I've scoured the forums for any mention of this 999 ping and only saw that there were people who were testing their own network instead of attempting this command (if they could) and giving us a screenshot of the actual game activity. Also: Are there any lua errors that pop up within the console that may trigger the constant 999? Does this also happen in on your own listen server as well?

I don't believe letting people e-rage (especially Playtesters) at new/minority players should be encouraged. Now he knows what it is like.
Im encouraging and polite to people that deserve it*.
* most of the time. Im not perfect.
Thank you. I never get it myself, but next time I see someone with it I will ask them to do this.
