Haha ye, I don't think many players on the field pay much attention to the RTS side of the game, many may not have even commed themself. I.e they think they've built a lot of RTs and the team should have a lot of res, but when they constantly get bitten down by skulks again (sometimes the game feels more lack whack-a-mole for a marine comm) you really don't have much res to spend on anything.
Alot of people that judge what a comm is doing, has never spent a good amount of time in the chair. Every thing cost res, if people don't hold the res then you don't get it. But if you don't know how to comm and you jump in as for advise and see what path the team might want to take. The biggest thing i see is alot of people get in game and don't take control of the team or even try too. I feel if you don't have a mic stay the f out of the chair. You typing and trying to do things wont work. Like i said the mic lets you tell people what's up, and too take charge.
Like i said tho i will be looking into this issue. Thanks.
Also that to the people that have shown support to All-In. Thanks alot. We should have a website up here soon for people to join and bring any server issues there.
Danada, I was in that game with you. I chewed you out a bit. I didn't know that you were new. If I recall, we were playing on all in one. All in hosts a "noob" server which is were I go to learn stuff. Just let people know you are new, most are more understanding of you mention that.. Sorry for being a ######. I hope you try to comm again soon.

^ this * 10000000. Knowing your comm is new and still learning VS assuming they already know what they're doing and should be fairly decent/speedy leads to very different reactions when the comm makes a mistake or isn't as fast as the players would like. Most people are very understanding if you're new and will try to help you out... but you gotta communicate that to them first. A silent comm is never a good thing, and a silent *new* comm can easily get screamed at without the players realizing they just need some help learning.
Makes an "ass-of-u-and-me" (my mother would be so proud), I know, but I think the initial thought to most players when someone hops in the comm chair/hive is that the player knows what they're doing unless otherwise stated. Make sure you state that and I'd bet my brother's stolen spleen that 9/10 times you'll get assistance (or at the very least not get screamed at). And if you DO get yelled at still, those players are just ######s (that probably have no idea how stressful and complicated being comm can be) and you should try and write them off as such.
"I'm the Comm cause no one else wanted it so I'll do what I please, now go cap nodes." - Me to any marine who whines about my choice of actions.
If I'm playing on a team the gets verbally abusive or consistently rude I just jump out and start shooting skulks. If they want to comm so bad let them have the chair. Protip: Many of them have never even been in the chair.
Anger at new commanders is a disease from NS1 that we, as a community, must stamp out in NS2. This kind of thing will seriously damage NS2's chances of being a successful game.
If you are ever in a game with a noob commander, stand up for him/her. Put yourself in their shoes, support them, let them play out a game and lose. And whenever some loud mouth starts yelling 'vote eject,' think about what is more important:
1. Maybe possibly winning the game with a new, loud mouth, cocky commander
2. Helping NS2 grow by encouraging new commanders to learn
If you want crazy-awesome-commander competitive play, take it to the competitive play forums and keep the rage out of pubs.
Ultimately it's up to server admins to make changes. It's unreasonable to think someone is going to play stellar in their first match but it's also ridiculous to hop in the chair and spend 5 minuets without even putting down a building because you're "figuring it out". I touched on this in this thread http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...howtopic=117689 where players who haven't played at least x number of games might not even be allowed to try commander, so that new players know they shouldn't hop in with no idea about what's going on.
I'm sure competitive servers will pop up and they'll ban people for joining who are new, and I'm sure there will be other servers who are tolerant and ban those who are insulting. Though, at this point, the game is still pretty small so server selection is limited and there's not much anyone can do, short of opening their own server.
I found the mandatory tutorials for specific game roles in AA work quiet well. If you wanted to be the only sniper, you needed sniper training. I don't like that you had to do it for every game role, but I think a mandatory tutorial for commanding would be a good idea (or that the eject commander pops up for people, instead of having every person find the correct key).
That said, there's a difference between people who are learning and willing to take hints, and those that believe they are awesome, and ruin the game for everyone else. When a person asks to be commander to learn, I'll spend all game helping him out. If he just pops in and starts ruining the entire game without consulting the rest of the players, then they deserve anything they get.
Hell even if they are good comms, they should always communicate with the team on the tactics.
I was in a number of those games last night and they went back and forth and I ended up crashing out near the end and just didnt re-connect.
Tram is broken and causes issues for Aliens. I think the comm's on both side were skilled, that makes for an interesting game. ALL-IN are great servers and I like the people running them as well. We are still a small community and in the building process of this great game.
No need to flame new people, Help them if you can, hell, most of the time 1 minute in there are no commanders on either side cause no one wants to get in. Give the people that do sack up and get in some credit, at least they are trying it. Dont like the way they are commanding? then the person complaning needs to sack up and get in the chair next time.
A lot of times I will get in late cause no one else wants to get in but if your slow to get a comm on the marines side you are toast.
It is a game, enjoy, have fun. It is not life or death.
I rememebr the days in NS1 " Opp, he dropped a TF, eject now!!" or "the gorge dropped a DC!!!!, GG" :-)
Some sort of in-game scripted tutorial system which takes you over the basics of being marine/alien and commander would go a long ways to helping with some of these issues. Something like that would probably have to come from the community rather than the devs though I would imagine.

Great minds think alike, Shiv! We intend to put a tutorial system in the game. As with so many features, community help could accelerate the process significantly. The reason there are no tutorials right now is that the game moves incredibly fast. Anything we make right now is outdated one day later. Until we are feature complete, and relatively feature stable, we will not make the tutorials, as it would be lost development time. For the moment, performance and feature completeness are the absolute priority.
I always like when someone lets me know that they're a new commander, because I can help them out and it lets me gather/organize my thoughts about the game just a little bit more. I find that as soon as 1 or 2 people start helping that commander and reassuring them "nobody cares if you don't play perfectly, it's a beta and half of us have 20 fps" the angry complainer types get a lot quieter.
Stuff like this will never go away because people in video games on the internet are mostly angry 11 year olds, but at least most of us can agree on what we can do individually :)
in NS1 i normally play on a bot server that's meant to train newbie commanders, since they dont have to worry about teamplay oriented enemies, it made things more enjoyable to new comms and players alike, not to mention a few added mods, like phasemeds and ammo and selfweld, but that's beside the point
