So what's with all the animosity towards new players?

All the time I see hateful remarks towards new players, particularly those who signed up after the TotalBiscuit videos circulated. Teams losing games and players blaming it on "stupid TB people" Are you guys gonna be the same way when the game goes retail? "those stupid retail people?" Give 'em some time, they'll learn. New people are good for the game. If servers are empty, you can't play.
I admit I signed up after the TB videos came out. I would have joined sooner but I honestly forgot this game even existed. I was a veteran of NS1 for a long time (in fact it's the reason I have a Steam account from 2003 when NS1 went to version 2.0 and was Steam only) I followed development of NS2 for a while but eventually just completely forgot about it. Then suddenly this video about NS2 comes out, says I can play the beta RIGHT NOW if I pre-order so, here I am.
Anyway, can we stop this hipster nonsense? Pretty please?

I only have a problem when they join a fully populated server and jump into command chair without knowledge of basics of the game. You make the rest of the server suffer because you don't know how to play. I suggest joining a less populated server and playing around there before joining servers that are constantly full just to screw over a team because you just want to play around. We are all here to have fun and while losing is part of the game, I would like to suggest courteously from new players not to jump right into the comm/hive to screw around but to play several matches and get to understanding the game before you try commanding.
So, that being said, let me say this as my final note; I have no problem with newer people that have never commanded before jumping in the chair/hive, it's good practice, even on full pop servers have no problem, BUT if you don't know the basics of the game and understand what needs to be done, then don't piss everyone off just for you to play around. It's very selfish.
BTW to define what I think is a new player; if you don't know the name of the structures, then you are a new player.
People learn really fast though. Just a couple of days and you can't tell the difference.
Regardless, regards.
I think the community was a bit overwhelmed with new players. Here in Oz, we went from 1x18 slot server being populated during prime time to all 3 of our best servers being full nearly all the time. It was a huge change. Many of the vets had strategies and tactics built up over months/years of playing and those ideas about the game were made unworkable overnight because of the sheer number of new people who didn't understand all that history.
And as people have mentioned, being commander is hard. If you don't have a microphone, and aren't willing to respond in chat, people will be upset about new players not communicating clearly, and even more about them being slow, and maybe selecting strategies that isn't mainstream.

Not sure what servers you've been playing on but sounds like you should find a different one (Hard I know right now but more will become available).
I have yet to witness anyone saying anything along the lines of "Stupid TB people". I am very grateful for TB and all the players it has brought because it will help the game survive.

Yeah me too. I rarely encounter noob hating on the servers I usually go to which are the EU ones.

No racist, or anything, but it seems to be a much, much bigger problem on the US side. I'm on EU servers too, and there's just no real animosity. Like, atleast, not swearing at people or even calling them noobs. You can spot disappointment and frustration sure, but other than that, not much.
The attitude is that if you haven't been playing the game constantly and mastered every aspect of it, you're an idiot and shouldn't be allowed to play. If you command and deviate from the pre-established strategies, you're a noob and shouldn't be allowed to command. If you're a player and don't immediately know what to do, you're a liability to the team and shouldn't be wasting money(/have money wasted on you if you're in NS1).
I don't know why this became the case in the first place, but I'd say most of the reason it's the case in NS2 is because NS2 is played by a large chunk of the NS1 community, and it was a major problem there too.
I have had good games with new people too. The new people who are willing to learn and do something. They build an armory when I ask them to, they attack the hive I tell them to. They may not be able to kill anything but they at least try.
ps.: a lot of them are kids, and i hate kids.
The hardcore simply has to realize that having this game the way we want it costs something. Either we all pay 200€ per copy, so it's a game for the NS1 Hardcore group, or we simply have to invite more players who pay for the game.
I just don't get it why some get so ridiculously offensive when, no matter how stupid, a new player comes into play. It's not even a released game yet, it's not with any statistics whatsoever.
I rather have a fun, but smashingly bad game with some new gamers than an overly offensive atmosphere in every game.

NEVER EVER heard anything about "TB" people, i mean people saying that, how can someone be that braindead to use that as insult?
Anyway, people always use anything to hate and use for their fail excuse ;-)
People are new and thats good, i like to see so many full server and nice people (instead of aggresive fools, like your example say...they use that "total biscuit" as insult...omg)
So: WELCOME NEW PLAYERS! I am glad you are a NS player now :-)
Please guys, comm yourself.

QFTT;
I will sometimes hop in if no one else does for a while. I'm far from a great comm and usually when people start complaining I ask if anyone else would like to comm and all I hear are crickets.
I don't mind new comms but I wish more would acknowledge the fact that they are new when they jump in the comm chair.
And I'm sure that UWE doesn't mind the money they're swimming in.
Most of the new players are eager to learn and trying out the game, having some fun.
But because this is such a team-work oriented game and generally a new concept of gaming, RTS/FPS, theres a lot to learn.
Noobs will be noobs and I don't mind noobs, except when they're obnoxious XBOX360-type ######.
You know the type I'm talking about.
The kind of noobs that rage at everything and everyone and blame everyone for everything and yell/type profanities.
Luckily I haven't noticed many of these types of players.
Also I've never heard the term "TB Players" being used.
But I do know what you mean.

I am sorry, and I have cooled down a lot on newer players. However I have been called out on multiple occasions as being bad and in fact the reason why our team has lost (both as com or because I haven't followed orders despite clearly and calmly explaining why) by new people. This will not stop to annoy me, at any stage of this games release.
I spent a whole game teaching a guy how to alien comm, next match he goes comm again, and doesnt even cyst to the rts, whole game didnt place a single rt. Thank god i could change to marine :) Some people are born noobs man, and all they can ammount to is a trained noob :P
If any new players see me on the server, and have a mike, and want to comm, im happy to help you out so just ask, im nxzl.hunter in game :)
Whaa..? Actually I was thinking of Rob. I'm pretty sure I was a bit... impatient myself the first few days...

It takes new players a while to figure out who the vets are, and why they do the things they do... :)
Still, I've seen this before. Unfortunately these sort people can't see past their own nose and realise the damage it causes to the community in the long-term.
Experienced players have feelings too.
