I've wanted the game for a while but only bought it after noticing the TB videos. I haven't encountered any animosity towards either myself or other admittedly new players. Infact I've heard people offer tips at times.

Oh, I encountered one person who was flaming a gorge for building clogs in the wrong place "terrible gorge". But he quieted down when I said he admitted he was new.

How does new people learn to be commander if they arent allow to play it? its a paradox. Its like in Battlefield 3, team only want people to fly who unlocked all perks, but how is new people gonna unlock perks so they can fly when they need all the perks before they fly???

Maybe they should add a trainee mode or something where 1 or 2 player can be somehow be playing command or watching another play it. It would be cool if there was a spectate option for commander, where you see it from his point of view so you can learn and see what he does and so forth.

I'm 96% sure this post is actually about me. I have taught many players and most just shrug off the losses as they come. However this particular loss was one where I was comming and immediately the obviously new players started blaming the fact that we "didn't get more RTs so we couldn't evolve higher". It was painfully wrong and their stubbornness really set me off.

Honestly, the vast majority of the time I am patient and easy to get along with in games. Sorry if it was harsh, but I had several new players trying to badger me over the loss.

And I definitely don't see some sort of mass animosity towards new players. Actually I see the exact opposite.

edit: for reference: We were aliens on summit, main hive was DC and the rines were at sub. I went 1 RT to reactor core, had a gorge at atrium. Went straight to crag>cara and then dropped the 3rd RT at atrium. The marines then killed all the aliens in atrium and locked it down. This is an obvious loss and these new players tried to blame the fact that I got cara first. Painful.

Thats their fault for not being instantly GODLY from the start. XD

Nah must be an AUS thing lol, dam lucky EU noobs seem to be smarter than their southern counter parts.

But to answer the topic's question

Animosity comes from when a new player get's clearly proven wrong AND

    -starts abusing the vets
    -refusing to listen
-still don't do what their asked of when asked kindly(with great understanding)
    -accuse people of being cheats
-say really REALLY stupid things that make you facepalm

I mean I actually find it funny most times cause ive seen a few new players say something really stupid or go off at the vets and clan guys, which eventually cause's a response that makes the new guy look like an idiot and rightly so.

But meh I laugh at most things. ELITE-IST AUS servers FTW.
