Would be nice to see a Team #156 in the tourney. I am open to join a team if you dont mind having a lousy, slow marine that cant shoot and my Skulk skills are nill :-). But you get me in a an Exo or an Onos I am good for 1 or 2 kills :-)
If a team is trapped in base with only the base rt for 5 minutes i think it would be safe to call it. Other than that it would be impossible. I have seen games where one team holds 2 tech points and the other hold 3 and the game lasts for an additional hour.
#156 is having is first POST-SUMMER set of game Sunday Night against 420 clan, so until we get back in the swing of things as a team, we wont be making an appearance :)
Dusk I am thinking that as well, however I am looking to hold a captains meeting Friday with all the team captains to wrap up any other questions like "calling it"

Certainly its usually safe to call it. But not always. Round one for Nxzl v Arc is a good example.
I think having some framework in place to call games is fine, but I just think you need to be careful with it, as there aren't any certain wins in NS.
I think teams should have at least the option to request a replay, even if only single one.
That said, I think if the servers are being intentionally crashed, you shouldn't be calling games, as that kinda undermines the point of playing them. Just my two cents.
I think a feature for an operator to hide his server from the list coupled with the ability to join via IP in the console might help against malicious attacks. That way, if the casters are careful, there would be no way to know where the teams are playing. Unless I'm horribly mistaken, which I may well be!
Probably can't be done for this weekend, but something to consider to help prevent attacks on future tournaments.
Would it still be visible on friends lists what servr that friend was playing on? i only ask as, with 12 players, 2-3 casters, and maybe a few more spectators, thats a lot of people.
Spoke to UWE about that very thing yesterday.... not possible other than setting my firewall to block port broadcasting, but steam friends would still see it so if someone could see you they coudl still do something about it.... fingers crossed we dont have issues.

Since NS2 uses different port for serving server queries isn't it possible to block this port and still join the server through console? This might make it invisible to the server browser but still allow the players who know the ip address to connect. What do you think?
I guess the most important part is that casters make sure they never show the ip address of the server in the stream.

Would it be possible for the server to give out a false IP then? (Not particularly aimed at you Wasabi, just anyone that might know)

Also this. Though UWE are pretty much wizards and I'm guessing if they say it ain't possible then it ain't possible. =]
I would recommend players to turn off their friends application on steam while playing official matches to prevent possible DDOS attacks. In L4D DDOS attacks are sadly common thing and turning friends off has become common ritual before official matches.

Im assuming (i havent seen any of the logs or anything) that is was most likely someone sending a massive amount/specially crafted udp packets to the server designed to crash it.. SRCDS had many exploits like this for a long period of time (and i believe still has some).

No idea what happened. See Dragons reply above for a views from a more knowledgeable person .
All I know is the AllIn #3 server process, which never has issues, shut down twice in a row. Then the 420 server did the same.
Only reason I say it wasn't DDOS is it was an immediate served process shutdown. No connection issues or lag spikes were seen.
- It was 2 different servers (with the same thing happening 3times more or less in a row) - They arent both hosted/rented by/from the same guy/s in the same building? - No person has access to both machines locally or via remote? (also no form of logging on those server machines is enabled at all(if there is something like that would be cool to enable it, just in case), that would give as an idea if somebody was doing something on those pcs at the times the crashes occured) - Its unlikely to be DDOS
What possibilities are left to make the serverclient shut down without a trace or anything in at least the server logs?
PS: can we somehow see/log every command or action send to the serverclient/console?

FYI, I dont hate AUS.... Arkanti just doesnt read the forums enough :P
Second, the crashes were strange because they were straight up EXE HARD CRASH, also 2 of the games were played on All-In which are NS2SERVERS.com units and then one round on the 420 server which I host with #156, totally different colocations, different hardware and different management.
Thirdly, the countdown has begun! I am really looking forward to this weekend, it looks to be a fun one!

Yes I know crashes like this one is really rare in the current builds. I meant something that can be triggered.

So I have 3 people that have said they "might" have team to play on Sat and I have yet to finalize their spot... That means the 6th and final slot has still yet to be fully claimed.... Any takers....
It shows 1 day, 10 hours, 30 minutes. That would be... SAT 4 am EST for me when the tournament starts at SAT 1 pm EST. The clock should have 9 more hours on it. Right?
you know you may be right on the clock... I hate math... on that note we are pushing it to 8 teams now! and thats the final max count.... its gonna be a fun day!

Good luck to all those involved!
