Updated to b222 in the middle of an NS2 session last night, so we had a frame of reference to compare the two builds with. I might be okay with the new melee radius change, but the marine hopping and knockback needs to go. Not only are marines more nimble this patch, the ridiculous knockback makes me feel like the marine just teleported away from my bites. I can aim my bites, but there's nothing I can do when I land one and the marine does an Akuma-style teleport and pistols me.
Played as marine and we ended up winning most of the games vs aliens as we no longer viewed skulks as much of a threat since we could hop, jump and skip from res node to res node. Even if multiple skulks rushed the base, 3 - 4 marines were enough to kill them all just by hopping and getting knockback to happen. People who just joined marines asked if the rifle had been upgraded, or if skulks were easier to kill in b222.
tl;dr melee radius *might* be okay, but marine hopping and knockback (from being bit/swiped/gored) is stupid.
IDEA: tweak the knockback so that it throws the marine back a shorter distance, but also add in a temporary stun effect that keeps the marine from moving for about a half second (and maybe disorients their targeting xhair a smidge). This way you can get knocked back, but you wouldn't try to force it to happen because it stuns you and screws up your aiming a bit.
I think sprint is the big issue. Because of sprint, basic movement worked in its limitation.
I'd prefer to see a removal of sprint and improved basic movement as seen in this patch.
I always thought it was aliens who were supposed to have a cross map movement advantage in terms of base speed, in NS2 that has changed and I think it confuses the two teams.

Most people prefer marines anyway so this patch might actually be a success in terms of player satisfaction.
Do other games make the basic class the hardest to play, like the skulk is? Seems counter-intuitive to me. Same on the marine side. The more upgrades you get the less skill you need.
Rather than making ARCs cheaper and encouraging comms to make more of them, have they ever considered buffing them considerably while also increasing the cost/build time considerably? I always saw ARCs as end game tech, there should only be a couple on the field at any given time. It should be seen as something "special", something that marines will want to be a part of and defend. Back in NS1 when the comm was setting up a seige point, as a marine you wanted to be a part of that because you knew it was important and defending it would be fun. In NS2 I just see a train of a dozen ARCs with a marine or 2 as escort and I just think to myself "meh, they'll be fine, I'll go off somewhere else".
- It makes the game simpler only having to manage 2-3 ARCs (as opposed to a huge train that is just as effective and costs just as much) - Easier for marines to defend since you don't have a room packed with ARCs - Easier for aliens to kill since they don't have to chomp on a dozen ARCs for a whole minute.
In NS1, 2-3 seige cannons were usually enough to take a hive down. NS2 should be the same way.
I just don't see why ARCs are designed to be used en masse.
And now with the lower cost of the factory and ARCs, the comm just concentrates on building up a train of them and then bringing a squad of marines to escort them in place with GLs (they just need to spam the ARCs with them nades and the skulks will not even get one of the twelve ARCs at 50%).
Also, when biting alien buildings as a skulk (don't know if this applies to other alien lifeforms) it sounds like you're hitting a power node.
And strange black boxes on the alien screen the first time you join a match on a server:

Either it was because I deleted and reinstalled NS2 (which may have cleared away any "junk" [speaking out of my ass here])
or this build really improved the performance for late-game battles, because I've noticed a really REALLY notable smooth game-play during late-game, especially on hive assaults with 3 Exos and high-tech weaponry.

This is a picture of the comm chair bug. I could just tell you outright what it is, but I like to tell stories.
Well, I joined a server and it was the start of a match. Somehow this guy (can't remember his full name, but I nicknamed him "Vit") stood on the front panel of the comm chair and mashed the button to open and close it. His body was clipping in and out of the chair. After like a minute, he closed the chair and backed out (which he could do because he was partly clipped outside the chair). So what we got was a closed comm chair with nobody in it. And nobody COULD get in it.
He did it next match as well. Okay, fine. I encouraged him to. I could have done it after watching him, but I didn't want to take the blame for screwing up the game. For some reason my immature mind found this extremely funny. We had fun dancing on the top of the CC.
It was all fine and dandy until some guy threatened the use of an admin on us. Thus ended our fun. Oh well.
I'm actually pretty sure the guy knew how to do the bug before 222, but I'm not sure. So, if you can, fix it. It's honestly pretty easy to do and if everyone found out could either be a disaster or it might just lead to some fun social moments. Although some tryhards might get mad. So it's probably a better idea to fix it :/
I saw it happen in flight control and sub on summit. Pretty sure it can only happen with Marine comm chairs as they close when entered Would assume it can be done on other maps as well.

The bug affects all command chairs in ns2_ mode (official unmodded). Go to an open command station and climb up the front so that you can press the LOGON interface without standing in the command station. Spam the LOGON button quickly several times (queue closing/opening mechanism) and if you press at the exact right moment (i.e. after several spam tries) when the command station is at the end of closing, it will lock, without a commander and without any way to eject or open the command station. The "command" console command does not work either. Any person inside the command station when it is locked, is stuck and can not open/command/get out.

Samus, those black textures on the hud are caused by texture streaming, turning it off in the options will fix it.
So you see at different stages in rounds aliens are usually outnumbered, on top of all the other issues, people want to play marine not alien. So to many players half of NS2 is unattractive right now.
Not even gonna bother anymore with this patch. Aliens need some serious serious love before they can even be considered close to competitive. Marines out class them in every respect. This is the worst balance has been since underbarrel GLs.

I hadn't thought about NOT reporting it, as this is a beta. But I guess since it is so close to release, there is a chance it might not be fixed and therefore will be abused greatly. Honestly, after watching you do this it's kinda scary that it isn't gone by now. Good find Vitdom(found your name lol). I give you credit for this.
Not sure if I should have posted that now. Think I should delete my post? I could just PM the devs. So I guess all we can do is hope it makes it in one of the final builds.

Don't get your hopes up. The game is going to go gold as broken and unbalanced as it is. Aliens require nothing short of a complete rework. The tech line, upgrades, and movement need to be scrapped and completely redone. I saw this coming 7-8 months ago and knew aliens were going to be a bloody mess, so I tried giving suggestions to stop it from getting to where it is now. It's a shame majority of the Alien feedback was completely drowned out by the incessant whining by the marine player base, shouting anyone down for even mentioning alien improvements because they couldn't go 40-3 as a marine while the performance was trash. That and it was clearly evident they (the devs) gave a rats butt about feedback.
Maybe post 1.0 they'll finally get their heads out of the mud and fix aliens. Who knows if that will even be quick enough. Once the shininess of NS2 being new wears off and people realize just how broken the game is, one by one they're going to uninstall and not look back. Servers will be ghost towns.

What on Earth is "Toothy's Delight"?? From the changelog:
Toothy's delight, smooth player movement.
O_o

Toothy had complained for aboutish 2 years that player movement wasn't smooth. Up until now, it was kinda considered "will go away with better perf", but he managed to show that it showed up even at 50+ fps. Turned out that there was an issue with the interpolation of player positions that made their per-frame velocity vary a lot, which caused a subtle shuddering in player movement. Unless you were aware of it, it wasn't really noticeable, but once fixed, it was obviously better.
Toggling it on/off feels a little bit like turning off a fan - you are not really aware that its there, because your ears have filtered it out, but once gone, you get a sense of relief. Probably the same reason - your vision centers has been working hard smoothing out a 20Hz stuttering and presenting a smooth movement to the rest of the brain, so when the stuttering stops, that part of your brain can suddenly stop working and relax.
Oh, the smoothing only works at 20+ fps, so people with really low fps will still show up as hitching on your screen. There are ways to work around that, but its better to spend the time making people have 20+ fps.
The game is not fun unless you join Marines. Marines scoreboard is usually 30 kills with 1 death, Aliens it is 20 kills with 30 deaths. Why on earth would you buff the marines? there aim is close to perfect now. Last patch marines are kings and this patch its even worst for aliens. Stop buffing the marines enough is enough. I don't know if you guys have people working for NS2 who are marines only minded but it sure looks like it now. Please, fix the aliens before release or you guys will have a worst backlash than this.
Marines don't even have to try to win now, it just comes. So many times I as the alien commander have everything, everything. I mean triple upgrades of everything, every tech point save for the marien's base, every res node and even good players on my team. The only way I have not lost is by creating some 500+ drifters and crashing the server.

3 hive rush in 2 mins with marine victory
1 hive rush in 6 mins with marine victory
1 res locked in 4 mins with marine victory
yeah. now on 31st october that means kill 6 years of work because of a single skulk bite nerfed
I can still get used to it, it's not as bad as in 220, but all new players will just quit playing alien and maybe quit playing at all.

To offset this nonsense give aliens some pres for kills, add focus and buff skulks/lerks however you see fit? I dunno.
(Also how was it decided to make the lerk SO SLOW? You can't even drop spores on people anymore it's too big and too ###### easy to shoot)
also parasite doesn't even seem like it does anything, it used to in older builds, back when aliens were fun

Wow... I bet your friends call you sunshine.

Is this any different than a shotgun rush? And in what pubs are you talking about, I only play pubs I've never seen this done.
