NS1 combat brought an influx of new players to classic mode, but a lot of people got all huffy and elitist and quit because they couldn't bear to play with people who started off on "THAT mode".<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That's not how I remember it.
CO came out and people stopped wanting to play NS1 Classic. So those who loved the RTS elements were alienated and forced to play a mode they did not enjoy. Eventually they just quit playing and the "Influx" of the counter strike players brought about the death of an amazing game.
I always thought of CO as UWE jumping the shark with NS1.
I don't however mind that it is a Mod, I am personally glad that UWE decided to not include it as an official release. Let it stand on it's own merit.

I am convinced there's an underground sect somewhere, where the great word of "If You Don't Like It - Don't Play It" -is spoken with great reverence and zealotry. P.S. It's dumb.
I tried co today, was pretty fun, impressed with how polished it was (yeah I guess my standards are low), was good fun for an hour or so but it quickly starts to feel less rewarding since there are no bigger goals on the background. But 'tis okay. I think we have enough players to let the modes co-exist.
Currently the mod needs alot of work... I played three rounds in a row before I got tired and moved on. Hopefully the mod will continue to be worked on and it can be a good place for people to learn the basic mechanics of each lifeforms (as aliens is currently harder to learn) in a safe environment where losing your fade doesn't mean no more fade for 10-15 mins.
I honestly don't see all the fuss, no one listens to each other in public games anyway so... who cares if those who arn't listening at least know how to shoot... Perhaps it was the fact that people don't listen to each other in public games that made combat so appealing in ns1 or perhaps it was the hostility of people in the community when people try to listen but are shouted at for not "listening well enough" and thus they prefered combat because they got shouted at less.
Either way, the mod needs to work before it can be enjoyed long term. (more than a round or so in a row) Good luck to the people working on it, I will try it again in the future.
there is only one playable server NS2servers.com Vagina #1, which is impossible to get in and alien egg spawn is glitched. making aliens either wait 3 minutes not spawning or just f4 rejoin. 9 out of 10 games marine just camp hive not shooting hive only aliens. also, i can't wait for xmenu/buildmenu in the future.

Then perhaps you should look at "why" rather than simply cut off another gametype. Decent servers that had decent admins and communities flourished (187combat, hampshireheavies to name two) they had CO and NSC plus siege. Other servers that were elitist and would help newcomers were simply dropped in favour of newbies going to CO where they didnt need as much hand holding.
I went to some downright hostile NS servers where you were ignored if you didnt tow the party line. Stuff that. Already ive been on an NS2 server where the same was happening. I am hardly a newbie to NS.

a lot of them just want to play aliens vs marines and don't know anything about RTS or completing objectives
it might be good to split that player base

CO serves its purpose - a quick easy to join game that is fun. NS© serves a purpose - coordinated team play for a rewarding game.
NS© in a pub game with no friends is a lottery. CO is almost never a lottery and with friends can be downright hilarious.
