<div class="IPBDescription">Muting and its pleasures. :D</div> Whether or not this has been posted before, I'll post this again. Perhaps a candidate for a sticky. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Muting, was needed asap.. fear not, solution found! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Steps:
Go bind a key to this command: <span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'><b>toggleeditps</b></span>
(ex.) <b> bind ins toggleeditps</b>
Now, when you hit this key (or type it in) you get the magical missing cursor! It will remove itself if you pop up the scoreboard and let go. So...
- Hit the insert key (as bound above) and hold tab.
- Click once or twice on the name..
- If nothing happens, repeat the process! A second time ALWAYS does the charm for me.
(release tab, hold tab, press insert, dbl-click until you can highlight the name)
- You then will have full MUTING CAPABILITY!
You no longer have to use voice_enable 0, so go set it back to 1.
Enjoy the selective silence. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Works just like normal HL/CS/FLF/DoD/SI muting. Double-click to toggle mute/unmute.

Why not just post the alias and let people copy/paste into their configs rather than overwriting everything?
<!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->alias fixmute "toggleeditps;bind mouse1 +attack"
alias +scores "bind mouse1 fixmute;+showscores"
alias -scores "bind mouse1 +attack;-showscores"
bind tab +scores<!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->

The answer to your question is both simple, and complicated at the same time.
I updated the 'bindings' list in that archive as well, so with that file people that don't have a clue about 'config files' could still use the patch, and their built-in menus would work for binding the keys for the most part.
I'm choosing to assume nobody has an autoexec.cfg, and <b>if the do</b> that they're technically-minded enough to understand how to use the files I'd attached themselves, with or without overwriting their own files.
Just to make sure, I also included a big warning to let everyone know what was in the ZIP file, so there would be no surprises either.
Considering the situation, making the 'fix' available to the largest number of people possible seemed like the best possible solution for everyone involved, and that meant making it a single archive to unpack, with no editing, or further manipulation of files <i>outside of Half-Life</i> as possible.
Also, it does not affect anyone's 'existing' bindings, unless they have scripts already set up for themselves. For 'Joe User' that doesn't even have access to the Console, this is a self-contained and still-useful patch. :-)
And believe me, if I didn't think everyone would give me strange looks, I'd have made a proper installer for it and everything.
