doctopepa, that comment (Thats a TOTAL avp ripoff ...) seems a bit rude. Granted, you may have not wanted it to sound this way, but I get the feeling like your attacking his map because in your opinion, hes taking other peoples work.
While I understand why you may feel like this, I think the way your going about it is wrong. Perhaps you could take a screenshot of the map in avp that hes 'copying' and provide us with proof.
Accusing people without proof is wrong. Onto the map itself, looks great Sinister. The new lights - er filtering in PS, whatever the case is - made the dropship room look alot better.
Silverfox: No i can't get a screen cause i don't have the game anymore.
Have you played the second level as an alien in avp? Aren't you accusing me of accusing without really knowing if i'm right without really knowing if YOUR right?
Look, this is no big deal i just don't like when people take credit for things they didn't do on their own. This most probably isn't one of these cases though. I guess only Sinister knows. Let him speak for himself.
I'm not sorry as you might expect me to say i am. Didn't mean to be "rude" though.
EDIT: Ah, he spoke for himself! Then this matter is cleared i suppose.

Now that the pics are much brighter, I can say that they look nice. I don't know, but wouldn't railings be neat in the hangar? Or would this affect performance to much?
Hmm... railings eh? might be a good idea! And for the space background, its just a placeholder untill i find a better one.
I might add that I played AvP yesterday, and yes, the rooms looked a tiny bit similar, but nowhere near in size... just thought Id mention it...
And I no longer know about that reactor pic, cuz Im thinking about starting all over again, probably with a new layout aswell...
Phew! Finally, Ive got a new layout... I didnt really have anything in mind when I made this, but I guess Ill stick to the reactor thing, its just that now its not a space station anymore, now its a facility burried deep under ground, and a big one too! (dont think this layout would be good for a space station)
The green areas are hives, the blue is the marine start (its a big elevator), the yellow is the command center, and the red (might be hard to see in some areas) is alien only vents n' stuff...
Some of the rooms might be changed later on if they cause trouble (some might be to small) and Im looking for good places to put in jetpack shortcuts aswell... the smallest corridors that isnt alien only will be passages that the marines can weld open (they might also be able to weld some vents shut for strategic reasons)
And finally, can you find my name somewhere in the map? (its somewhere at the bottom)
Yup, I found it One thing to keep in mind - the hives are supposed to be equal distances from the marine start, and I don't think they can have passes between them either. Be sure to read the mapping guidelines. I see lots of potential here.
I'd like to add in support of that: Remember that Marines may get jump packs. What starts off as an alien-only vent doen't always stay that way.
Also, it isn't a good idea to make it very easy for the aliens to quickly build all three hives. It's important that the aliens take some time to move from one hive to another, otherwise life would get very difficult for the marines.
I really like the complexity of your layout! I think if you moved those hives around a little, you'd have a great map to work on.

One of the suggestions in the guide is that aliens should want to use vents only about half of the time - i.e. they're safe, but perhaps more roundabout than the normal hallways.
hoho, this must be my greatest accomplishment ever! To bad its not perfect...
I always thought that te hives were supposed to be close to eachother so that aliens could move quickly between them if one of them would be under attack... maby I misunderstood the guidelines? heh, thats what happens to non playtesters! And those passes... those are alien only! And if those arnt allowed, I know a great deal of maps with the same mistake. So, Im quite sure theyre allowed... And, marines getting into alien only vents?! I thought there were no ducking while jetpacking, or?
But, Ill try moving around the hives as suggested and see what happens. (Probably down towards the bottom left corner to make that area more interesting) And it sounds like I need a lot more vents, the least I can do is to connect the already existing ones, but I guess some more of them wouldnt hurt...
Ok, the way things are right now... The aliens will have three hives up before the marines can even make it to the hives with the fire power required to take them out. This means the marines will be being attacked and the hives will be defended by levels 3-5. Marines will probably lose every time.
You'll need to spread those out.
Also, don't worry about making the vents 'alien only'. It's NOT a good idea, for a great many reasons... (AFKers in the vent holding up the game.... aliens building buildings in there, making it impossible for the marines to take them out... stuff like that).
heh, not being a playtester creates a lot of problems... It would certanly be nice building for good gameplay, just a little hard when youve never played it...
Anyways, so what youre saying is that I should remove the vents connecting the hives? So they cant be used by marines, or AFKers... sounds logical.
Ill get working on it as soon as I get home from school...

[EDIT]Also, I didnt know the aliens could build the hive structure. I thought the hives would spawn by them selves or something similar... apparently not...[/EDIT]
Well, heres the new improved layout... hopefully, this time its easier to see what is what. Added lots more vents, moved hives... Might remove some parts "above" the hives since they are nolonger interesting after the hives moved... Might serve as "safe" resource gathering areas for aliens, but just with a little less resources in them maby?
[EDIT]The hive at the bottom might be moved up two rooms plus killing one of the corridors into that room to prevent fast movement between the hives...[/EDIT]
Lots of drunken hallways near the bottom. That could get a little confusing. Also, is there a purpose for the rooms beyond the northwest hive? It would make sense if some of those rooms connected to the hive room, then the marines could flank the aliens. But right now they seem to be kinda random. Not to sound mean though. It's coming along nicely.
Yeah, lot of drunken hallways... Look a bit closer and you might get a suprise! But dont worry, Ill make it look less "drunken" in-game.
As for those rooms in the northwest, Ill probably remove them or connect them to the hive as you described. Just have to wait and see...
Random? Well, this is a random map! I made it quite at random, but with high distance (yet low from a birds perspective) to the hives... I also had some other peoples layouts to look at so I wouldnt make too many fatal mistakes. Hehe. Much will probably change as I start designing and building the rooms and hallways... only, not too much...
A bit lame? Whatever floats yer boat, man
