im i the only one that finds this stupid? the aliens can c this from the other side of walls :/

It has nothing to do with the maps... It's just a server-side mod that adds a little laser at the end of your gun. And yes, it sucks **obscenity**.

It's not a new map feature, it's a server toggle. Don't get this confused with a "marine bonus" type thing. It's to benefit aliens, so marines can't sneak around. I suggest not playing on servers with this one, they tend to heavily favor aliens. For example, the server I have that has this activated also does not allow sieging, with no similar alien detractions. It was recently removed, doubtless when someone realized their stupidity.

Nemesis Zero's advice doesn't just apply to Voogru's server. No matter what server-side mod you find -- if you don't like it, don't play on it. Nobody's forcing you otherwise.

I like the lasers.... Yes it does make you easier to see, and seeing 6 of them pointing at a skulk is priceless

Just came from a game at Hullu's... laser sights look cool (except for lag and the inevitable drawbacks of HL's directional model limits) and are of course big beacons marked "please eat me while I'm looking so obviously at this area". Admittedly, our marine side won that game... a force of skilled HA's versus skulks and a couple of Fades... that's a massacre, even with the laser sight advantages- I quite like the things.

Good marine teams (read: people who can aim, being controlled by a good comm) rape anyway, with MT and the ability to, you know, aim.

Cloaking don't matter, since you still see where the alien stops, and just spray the area till you see green.

Giving a red dot doesn't do anything other than say to the aliens "Gee, I hope this guy sucks **obscenity**/doesn't have MT."

Can i just say one thing -

Every server ive played in with the lasers, as iam a alien, i hear the marines anyway. Isn't it just kind of dumb to blame that problem on the lasers, when you can hear the clink clink of boots on metal?

One other thing, the marines have a built in model for a laser sight on there helmet. I was expecting to see them anyway.

I've played on some of these "laser sight" servers, and I've gotta say that this is a really bad, BAD addition..

I can't see any reason why the lasers are even in the game (they don't help your aim at all) except to alert any aliens who might be in the neighborhood that a marine will shoot them if they go around a corner.

These lasers actually go through WALLS, alerting aliens to your exact position before they can even see you.

I personally dont like them, but thats mainly because you cannot toggle them on and off, and they lag behind your aim making them useless unless you stand there for a second.

I don't like lasers mainly because they are useless. What's the point if they don't help your aiming or anything?

NS isn't exactly the fastest mod ever with all of the stuff that it does, it's pushing the HL engine pretty much to the limit. Throwing in yet more lag-bait with half a dozen laser pointers doesn't strike me as a good idea. I don't much care one way or the other about the lasers themselves, except that it should be able to be toggled. There are actually times when marines need or want to hide, and it's unfair to them to have a glowing beacon coming from them at all times. Clever tactics and ambushes should be encouraged, not given away by lasers.

I don't like it. It doesn't help and it even if you CAN hear the marines the laser sight just makes it that much easier to pinpoint when they are about to turn the corner.

So, yeah, you can say whatever you want, but it doesn't change the fact that it mainly helps aliens.

I personaly enjoy them. Not becuase they look "cool" (I actualy think they look stupid... the lazers shouldn't be coming out of their GUNS... like someone said before: "There is a lazer pointer on their helmet!"), but becuase aliens are now on the look out for them now. When I'm a marine, and I have to gaurd a tunnel/vent, I try to keep my lazer OFF of the vent, but just below and off to the side. When the aliens charge through the vent, and they do not notice my lazer, they will just jump through carelessly. I rack up alot of kills this way. Another example is when an alien sticks his head out of a vent but I shoot at him so he crawls back into the vent for safty: Ussualy 90% of the population will keep their guns pointed on the vent waiting for the aliens to come back out. Think about it people! If you see a friggin lazer in front of the opening you're about to go through and you know for a FACT that its attached to some sorta of automatic rifle, I doubt you'll go through that opening eather. Ussing the same meathod as a stated about, I will keep my aim on the vent for a second, then move my aim so that the lazer does not cross the vent at all. The skulk will ussualy pop his head out AGAIN, thinking that i'm stupid and I ran away to find some bigger pray. Thats when I point my little red dot between his beaty little eyes and blast his brains out.
