I remember on the thread about the Jetpacks being used to fly forever... Coil mentioned that players with a higher FPS can build, regenerate jetpacks, and <b>SHOOT</b> faster than those with a lower FPS.
I've also seen a screenshot from someone with a watercooled system that showed 275 FPS in NS (Though that was the hera spawn, facing a wall; I'm sure he'd still get 150+ in the game itself). I've seen my own system capped at 60 FPS and fps_max 100 didn't change that =/ But the point is that his FPS was GREATLY higher than my own, I'd be willing to bet he could build or shoot faster than I.
Perhaps those people who have the uber ability to kill us in (seemingly) 2-3 hits has a FPS so high they can slug out 10 bullets in the time most others would need to slug out 3?
I've yet to create any noticable ROF changes with fps tweaks, and i can manage 100-200fps without much trouble. I'm normally capped at 72, with the cap slightly higher i can just about hover forever with a jetpack, but i can't see any significant increases in build speed or rate of fire by going higher than 72.
If i run in software or D3D mode, my fps drops considerably and the effect on the physics is very noticable - in software or D3D, i can barely maintain my height with a jetpack even while holding down the jump button, the pack becomes useless in this case. Building speed was also noticably slower as well when running in either of those modes, but ROF appeared to be the same in all settings. Admittedly, it wasn't a very scientific test, i was using my own judgment rather than timing it, but i think i can conclude that simply having a slightly higher fps does not = super speed weapons.
Something that could be worth testing is the effect of major changes in ping/fps while online, i'm thinking more about very low fps and very bad lag as an artificially created spike. There were various problems with Q2 that allowed people to perform crazy jumps by temporarily crippling their framerate. HL is derived from the Q1/2 engines, so...

Most ppl dont have that innate talent and skill and the ones that cant handle the fact that they arent as good as they think they are will dl the cheat program to make up for it. Does this mean that anyone is good cheats? No...its just means actual divine talent and skill is rare while fake talent and skill(cheating) is not rare.
How many uber leet gods of death and destruction are there in the NS community? What? at most 100 or so eh? Now how many ppl do you think are out there that want to be a uber leet god of death and destruction but dont have the abilty, talent or skill and cant handle thier own failings? Lots. Far more than the actual honest and true uber leet gods of death and destruction that for sure. There will always be those that cant handle thier own shortcomings and try to make up for it in a nefarious manner.
Again Im not talking about your average good or even really good player....no Im talking about uber leet gods of death and destruction and the imposters that impersonate them. The sad thing is because there are more cheaters than real uber leet gods of death and destruction, the real and true uber leet gods of death and destruction will be accused of cheating.
