<div class="IPBDescription">From the upcoming NS v1.1</div> Hey everyone,
It's been awhile since I've done this, but I thought it would be nice to post some screenshots of our work in progress. Please don't ask for screenshots of anything else, we'll post them when they're ready.
Here are some screenshots showing off the HLTV and the new spectator features in NS v1.1. While waiting to respawn, you can go to first-person spectator, third-person locked, or third-person free-cam. It's not fully decided on or implemented, but you'll likely see a lot of other stuff on the HUD when you're in first person. Right now, hive sight, alerts ("your hive is under attack") and health and ammo show up as if you were looking at the screen of the person you're spectating in first-person. If you look closely, you can see the health and ammo readouts in the lower left underneath the letterbox bottom border. I'm not sure this will stay in or not, or what else will be added, but I'd like the first-person spectator to have lots of information.
These screenshots were taken on ns_bast and ns_lost. Without further ado:

<i>my names Joe hacksaw and i heard this rumour of an alien commander, and i think i saw a pic of the cc with wheels in your beta and..</i>
lol..just joking....that interview makes me laugh.
It looks like that on my comp , and my comp is nothing special at all <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->
hltv looks good anyhow, i'm guessing it will look like that in spectator mode too?
Can't wait to play it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I wouldn't be too surprized if it is a sweet setup. I'd imagine it may be as good as a multiple computers setup (one running a debugging program, one running a dedicated server, listen server, or both), or some mini-supercomputer with a video card for each monitor and who knows how much system and video card ram.
Some more fairly educated guesses can be made from reading his resume and checking out what he's worked on in the past. Check www.overmind.org
P.S: Flayra, on a win98se machine with directX9 I <i>did</i>manage to get Aquarium Fighter to run...well, more like show the menu screen, control options, and allow you to exit properly. Should I post screenshots here, make a new thread in General or Off-topic, contact you and send them just to you, or just hold off unless I find a way to get the actual in-play action working?
BTW will one day be possible to spectate the commander ?? Seeing all his map and the commander console with the mouse moving around. Like in some demos of being commander , but in game .
For the record, UhOh - that's not a "new minimap." It's a map for HLTV only - the marine minimap will still be as it currently is, perhaps with some improvements (blips and such). I don't know what Flay currently has planned for it, though.
Probably great for just observing though...
ns_lost looks nice, too <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Keep up the good work.
2 Questions though.......
1: What screen resolution is that in? (and colour depth)
2: What happened to the topic you created about donating to NS
to get an icon by your name on the score-board? It seems to have
vanished
Can't wait to play ns_lost again.
He already has submitted it. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Check the mapper forum.
Think there where som changes coming that will be released with 1.1 because he didn't want to force people to download it again. But since they doesn't realy affect gameplay I would say that it is finished.
When it's done? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Think that's the best answer anyone can or is willing to give
First person Skulk-cam should be great fun to watch... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
All that coolness just to watch a bunch of marines bounce up and down wherever they go. Bounce up and down when they are being attacked. Bounce up and down when they are attacking. Bunny hopping has become such a popular tactic, teamplay has taken a backseat to the ability to jump and fire at the same time.
As far as I'm concerned HLTV is instrumental in making NS a more spectator friendly teamplay mod, this means leagues like CAL will be more interested in making NS an event at one of their tounaments. But will this make a bunch of hopping marines entertaining to watch? In the NS manual we are made to believe sticking in squads of 4-5 Marines is best. In reality a squad of 2-3 skilled bunny hopping marines can do everything but major Hive attacks.
I don't deny that jumping, aiming, and firing takes some skill. However, as a spectator sport how exciting is that tactic to watch? Could the decline of DM based tournaments be an indication of where bunny hopping, a DM-based skill, is going?
<i>I'm posting this thread in the Bhing Thread too, I think it is relevent</i>
It's totally out of place here, though. q:
HLTV is always a nice thing to have for a professional grade mod! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
maybe the finals for CAL (or CPL, one day)
but here is a question, when you join in spec mode in 1.1, will you be able to see text messages?
