1. Marines should be able to use knife (not as much damage though) when in the stomach, in hopes that the onos is almost dead, in a last effort to save his life he can try and shank the beast, until his own digested death. The guns wont work because of the stomach juices clogs everything!
2. I like the idea of the other marines being altered to a "fellow marine" in a certain onos belly, either by some kind of animation, or muffled sound, it will encourage the marines to gang up on one onos, to take him out and save their brother!
3. When a marine gets eattin it should go black while in the stomach. There wouldn't be much light down there anyway.... I don't think marines should get third person view, just black! That’s part of it... isn't it?
4. I don't know if I like this, but might make this a little more balanced, like others have suggested, when an onos eats ha or hmg, he should walk a little slower, as one would expect to happen if you add a couple hundred more pounds! You go out and eat a marine that weighs 300lbs and walk normal!!!!!!!! I doubt it!

Well, what if there would be a set amount of damage, like a marine inside your stomach can only take off 75-damage max.... higher or lower. that way if a onos eats you, and starts to get attacked by 4 other marines that manage to get his health down to 75,and takes off down the hallway running like a girl, forgetting about the marine he swallowed, when ***slit***dead onos*** marine slides out of stomach! Im just throwing out balancing ideas, by no means do I expect my advice to be used, just contributing!

What happens when a marine is being devoured, but the Onos (having cunningly gone for the redemption upgrade) redeems instead of dies? Level three redemption is very effective for the upper level Kharaa at the moment, so chances are he'll survive.

I'm gonna try using some logic here and see where it gets me. The big assumption with this is that any alien at any number of hives idea is gonna be used and you can only 'digest' one marine at a time.
At 0 hives a Onos can effectively kill one marine and is then defenseless. As good marines travel in groups this makes a 0 hive Onos very weak. At 1 hive they can now take on multiple marines but only by skillful use of paralyze and TBH it would be quite difficult. They aren't unstoppable by any means. They are however a good counter to early game Jp'ers. At 2 hives they <b>do</b> start becoming an unstoppable force of death as they are now. They can now take out multiple marines with ease, something they can't do before 2 hives. Structures can also begin to be brushed aside. At 3 hives primal scream simply helps end the game.
Thinking this way it's possible paralyze will stop a marine from shooting all together, although eating one, paralyzing the rest and running away is still a possibility.
Who needs hives when you can hide inside a wall of lame tokeep from dieing <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I actually think devour is a pretty awesome idea, personally. Like most people upon first reading this, I thought that it would probably be (and should be) paralyze that gets replaced. But the more I think about it, the more I think about how Primal Scream should be replaced, as the Onos is more of a frontline asskicker than a cheerleader, as cool (and cheesy) as the ability is.
My two cents on how the devour ability should work: it takes 25 seconds to devour a marine, regardless of armor. Paralyze works for 30 seconds if I remember correctly. So make it so if an Onos devours a paralyzed marine, the marine cannot fire at all. This would obviously make it so the Onos is pretty screwed if they devour someone without paralyzing first (especially a fully-outfitted heavy soldier -- let's not even think what a HMG could do to Onos insides), adding a good deal of strategy and coolness overall.

devouring a marine is 10 times better than paralizing and attacking him..... when you paralize the marine.... he isnt able to move..... but he can still unload a whole clip of hmg while you are approaching or while you are attacking him..... especially if hes a ha.... but if you devour him you can just run at him devour and problem solved you got just hitted by 10 bullets max..... and you are at 400 hp instead of half dead...... think before posting nonsense -_-

The bugs were fixed, but the tooltip not changed.

Here's an idea, make devour take time to complete, thus the onos can't move whil he's lurping up the marine. Could also play animation of teh marine getting slurped up with legs flailing! that would be classic!

An Onos, theoretically, shouldn't be able to attack a jetpacker. Remember Ultralisks, Starcraft? They were invincible on the ground, barring a siegetank wall. However, one Wraith could whittle the big guy down without having to worry about reprocussion whatsoever. Why? The Ultralisk had no long-range weaponry to deal with.
I'm noting a lot of 'screw balance, this is gonna be fun, I can't wait to eat all the marines!' talk, here. I'm eagerly awaiting what upgrades the marines are getting in this next patch, as we've only heard about new Kharaa abilities. Considering that marines at their maximum tech and upgrades are hard-pressed to battle only two hives, and are already hopelessly outclassed by three hives, I think balance may suffer if there are not some serious changes to the marine's abilities.
I'm hoping for stronger turrets, personally, as weapon upgrades increase. Makes sense, really. No point in turrets, or mines, or light machineguns after the aliens get fades, right now. I'd like to have a turret farm that a fade doesn't look at and start cracking up at, at least.
But I guess I'm the only marine enthusiast here, at present. You guys have fun all trying to dive into the alien team portal at the start, I'm gonna have a smoke, then stroll into the marine portal, sit back and wait.
Nice idea but I think it will decrease fun factor especially for marines. It would get boring having to wait 30 seconds with a black screen, especially if you keep getting devoured over and over again, it wouldn't be any fun. Another thing is you would have to disable f4 otherwise people will jsut get devoured and f4 their way out.

0 hive - Devour.
1 hive - Paralyze.
