While I don't have an "it's this or nothing" preference, I'm content with my cable connection. It's faster than dialup, online 24/7 (<i>in theory</i>), and the customer service is <i>sometimes</i> half-decent.

DSL service ends <b>two houses</b> up from me, at most 50m away. I probably would have signed up for DSL, but settled on getting cable since I didn't really have much choice.

Around here, both services are roughly the same price per month, the equipment (buying or leasing) is about the same, bandwidth speeds are usually about equal, and so on. Basically, choosing one service over another is either personal preference or an availability thing.

Well, the bandwidth speeds were usually about equal until recently. Regarding the 'evil monopoly' comment earlier...

My provider has severely cut everyone's bandwidth caps to help reduce the load on their hardware without informing customers of the action. Worse yet, they raised their monthly fee a few months prior to the cut. Basically, it's a cash-grab. They want more money for less service. Yeah, a typical faceless business. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Since I'm just so gosh darn optimistic, I'm tickled pink since there's now a lot less people clogging up my node. 'Course, I don't have much of a choice besides "cable or dial-up". Once DSL is available at my place, I'll be dropping the cable service ASAP.

    [edit1] some rewording
