This, along with fish cakes makes me laff. If someone calls you a n00b, call them a f00l back then ignore them.
remember it takes more skill and experience to ignore someones inane ramblings.
Just go about your skulking, gorging comming or marining, in the bliss knowing that your better than them and you dont have to rise to their obviously inexperienced player skill.
BTW scuse the spelling im crap at it
You can't get in trouble for calling someone a newbie.. but you can get in trouble for calling someone a goshdarn (was a bad word of badness) *washes mouth*
.. that's basically the only reasoning behind it I see.
ok, n00b is highly overused. a game i played a while ago when just cause the comm hasnt said anything u get someone going "n00b comm ejec now !!!!". this was with a two hive lockdown. not really n00b material. but then u gotta work out the defination. not sure if a proper net dictionary term for n00b exsists. but, at times its a fun word to use, other times its insultive. i tag myself up as [noCLANn00b]silent when i play, just cause. i don't hate myself, i feel its a fun term.
as for leet speak, its a bit of fun. some people totally over use it. thats just silly, because u spend more time translating than u do anything else. i often use w00t and n00b when im chatting, cause its easy to do. \/\/007 takes some thinking to do really. each to their own. as for people that have clever totally leet binds in the game, saying "give me health" or whatever, that annoys me. i spend time looking at it trying to work out what it means. not the most efficent way of doing things, cause will im concentrating on that, i aint concentrating on the skulk that is chomping on the guy that just said it
oooh, though i did get annoyed when i comm refered to me on v.chat as a n00b, when my name was clearly silent. heh. a good thing with leet speak is when u get a 12 year old trying to speak it over v. chat. "omg u n00b i pwned u im so l337" sounds hilarious in a high pitched voice
oh i get autokicked from some servers cause my nick is offensive ;-)
so there ya go, my first post, and i been lurking for ages ;-) so feel free to flame ! heh
At the beginning, a "lamer" was supposed to mean "newbie hacker". Yup. Mitnick was a lamer too And now you use it like "llama"...
Remember the days when leet was just elite, and primarily the realm of hacker/cracker groups releasing software and demos (Not game demos, but the graphical demos with mod music, for those that remember...) on BBS (Bulletin Board Systems)?
It's certainly changed and evolved since then, though not necessarily for the better. However, as much as the word "n00b" bugs me, I do find myself rather partial to "w00t". Hypocritical, I suppose, but perhaps it's because it's a positive exclamation of joy, rather than a derisive, negative insult thrown around.
