because a TF + turrets costs alot more then OC

plus it will cost res to upgraded the rt ;)
  • Sephiroth2kSephiroth2k Join Date: 2002-04-21 Member: 481Members, Constellation
probably 15 res to upgrade it. oc's are a joke. one oc cant defend a resource chamber by itself, no matter how you slice it.

Nobody knows how much the upgrade will cost yet though?

Right. An OC defending a resource tower? I'd already be happy with an OC that managed to defend itself!

Offense chambers are for offense, defense chambers are for defense. If one of them did both tasks, there would be no need for the other. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

but defense chambers cant defend themselves.

Offense chambers are a suppliment to your offensive attack in the areas of the chambers, meanwhile the defense chambers suppliment your ability to defend areas by healing OCs and other aliens. The chambers don't do what they are meant to do exclusivly. They are meant as a suppliment to your existing force.

    **bangs head on table**

All I was asking was if the electrified RTs were a rumour or not. Kudos to the ppl who actually responded. This was not intended to be a speculation thread.

Oh, another thing about that electrical upgrade: you can research it for a turret factory OR a resource node. Right now it attacks up to two different targets, and actually has a bit of a range. I'm really excited about this for the following reasons:

    - Marines can actually defend nodes if they want to spend some cash to do so
    - Turret placement won't matter as much (sounds bad but I think is good)
    - Building just a turret factory to defend (!) should now be viable, as should building one turret, two turrets, etc. I think we'll see strats where you build a turret factory near the CC, then research electrical on it to defend it. Or strats where you build a couple TFs next to each other to make an electrical wall. Or marines using it like a bunker, firing from behind it. Or marine structures built between their TF and node, forming an electrical defense, etc.

This upgrade, along with all the other changes, should allow both teams to really try some sick strats. I can't wait.

This so far is the only info we appear to have. Yet doesn't this strike you as strange? The poster named Flayra had 3 posts and joined on April 7th. Seems a little strange that Flayra would join such a forum so late and then place a statement in there that hasn't been seen in any of the official changelogs. I'm more willing to believe this "Flayra" in that forum is a troll especially considering that his very language did not sound like the Flayra we all know and love.
All I really wanted was a developer or playtester in these official forums to say yes or no. Sorry but I don't count the above post as firm evidence.

That was the cal forums right? Flayra only recently needed to post there with the dawn of 1.1 having cal mode support. It is, as far as we know, truly him.

No it was from the NSA forums.

Exactly the point I was reading to the end of the thread to bring up. That doesn't SOUND like Flayra, incredibly low postcount, no custom avatar, sig, or even forum title...

Welcome to having been tricked, guys. Far as I know, the only electrifiable structure is the TF. And until it hits the changelog on the main NS page, I'm not going to be believing otherwise. I'd suggest that you do the same.

I think it's pretty safe to say that that actually is Flayra. What does the post count have to do with it? He's a busy guy right?

Good to see someone else backs me up here. Guys, why would Flayra only tell some other distant forum? The official changelogs say nothing about electrified RTs, and none of the devs or playtesters have said anything about them. I wish one of them would so we could end this speculation.
I'm with Talesin: I'm waiting for something official.
  • ZelZel Join Date: 2003-01-27 Member: 12861Members
ive seen and heard nothing from the official 1.1 threads about this E-RT , and it sounds too strong to make it through playtesting, a single unit resource tower that can defend itself against skulks is amazingly good. in 1.04 a marine team needs only hold two or three RT's to win, perhaps this easily defendable RT wont be so much of a problem in the new 1.1 economy system.

at any rate, i still think that post by "flayra" on the other forums is a fake, because it tells a lot of technical information about the upgrades, and if he was going to divulge that much info (which he doesnt do often) he wouldve done it here!!

btw what the heck is so bad about speculation threads? its a chat-forum....

It's not another distant forum. It's the biggest clan forum (NA) that we've got. He's already previously shown his dedication to both clan and pub play(including clan pt's is a great example). It makes a lot of sense that he would post something there, because one of the people that frequents both these forums would post it over here.

Frikk... one problem. ANYONE can sign up on another forum using the name 'Flayra', provided no one else has signed up with it first. IMO, someone just jumped on to toss out a troll.

    Supporting evidence:
-No mention of electrified RTs in the NS changelog
    -Lack of standard avatar/sig
-No custom title (I mean, come ON... the admins would at /least/ give the real Flayra something like 'NS Creator' or something)
-Moderately different word selection, making a statement as a confirmation, instead of the usual 'testing to see if it'll work'.

    Detracting evidence:
-Someone signed up with the name 'Flayra'.

Get over it, and don't get your hopes up until you see 'electrified RTs' in the main changelog as well.

Same problem Frogg2: it's not official. As far as I'm concerned: not said by dev/playtester here in this forum or mentioned in the official changelogs means it's not there. All we have right now is the work of what would seem, from most accounts, to be nothing more than a troll.
  • Frogg2Frogg2 Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4867Members, Constellation
Um the Veteran's forum is in these forums...
  • RyoOhkiRyoOhki Join Date: 2003-01-26 Member: 12789Members
And I was ment to know that how?

If what you say is true then why havn't we heard anything about it?

EDIT: and if it was false information, i am sure it would no longer be there. But it would be nice in future to present new information in both forums to stop the confusion.

because nothing is final yet, but from what i've heard they like the Electric RTs in the PTs sofar.
  • RyoOhkiRyoOhki Join Date: 2003-01-26 Member: 12789Members
Seeing as this thread is constantly sitting at the top of general discussion I'd hazard a guess that if there really were electrified rts one of the devs/pts would have swung by and at least made a comment.

I stand by my prior statements. until I see something official, it's not there.
