Thumb Button

Hi,

When I set a function, i.e. "reload" to my thumb button, it doesn't work in game... In windows the thumbbutton works fine (set to "back" with internetbrowsing and such)

The mouse is a logitech dual optical, does anyone know how I can fix this?

I seem to have this problem with HL including all the mods...

And in some mods, and with games in general, the thumb button is quite a nifty thing!

umm, though I am not sure about this it may be that HL can only understand 3 buttons and the scroll wheel

If you want more then 3 buttons youmight be screwed
if you only want 3 then one posibility is to change the 'thumb button' to 'middle button' in windows (don't know if this will work)
Another hackish type of this would be to see if you canget it to be recognized as a joystick button and then play from there

I mean... it plainly sucks :S

ATM I have just discovered another really swell HL mod... and there is a "stunt" button, which you basically have to be able to press at all times.... and I need it under thumb :'(

ok, have you assigned your mouse button to actions via the ingame menus?

have you tried doing it through your con?

lets see...

check the mouse set up (settings-->controll panel-->System-->hardware etc, this might be wrong b/c I am wroking in Linux right now and trying to 'member)
in their see exactly what your mouse buttons are set up to do. If you have a choice of assigning them to be 'mouse 4' or something try that.

My only suggestion would be drivers for the mouse...

I have the driver...
I can download a newer one if there is one (I'll check tomorrow)

I have tried setting thumb in Win to "doubleclick" but then when I hit thumb ingame it just shoots the gun I'm holding...
I tried setting it to "F8" in Win, then it doesnt respond in game just like when I set it to "back"
now there are about 30 options in that list, and I can't say that I feel like trying to find one that might work <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'>

But I'll get the new drivers if there are any... and hope they work...

It's 2 separate things
Like for example if I press W in windows I don't move forward do I ?

oh god, now I have to make my self a partial keyboard and carry it around, hit out all of my movements ussing it (hold W as I walk fowards <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>)

but nah, what I ment is this:

I have a joy pad that I couldn'[t get games to recognize SO I told the buttons to act like specific keys and then could bind them up properly (like I had the Hat acting like the arrow keys so I could do proper straffing)

So if the thumb button sends the Backspace msg to the comp every time it is pressed then it should register as backspace in HL and thus be able tobe bound as that

for instance ifyou wanted to be silly you could bind your mouse 1 button to W so when ever you press W OR mouse 1 you would move fowards.

It should also be possible to tell specific keys to send diff signels (forinstance I would love to find a program that makes the Windows key act like something else so that I could bind it to stuff in HL <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>)

Oh yah, @ Thing, have you ussed these buttons in any OTHER game? (might help out <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>)

I am sitting in the CS lab and I am suposed to be doing work thus why I am in Linux (multiple desktops, clean interface, etc ats why I work in Linux)

however I play in Windows (running HL in wine would suck <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>)

a program that will rebind keys in windows, lets poke <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'> (or possibly a piece of hardware could do it, there is one that logs all keystrokes before it even gets to the machine)

You can always just post your /ns/config.cfg file here as well, and we can make sure it's bound right. I use a 5 button mouse with no issues in any HL game (more than I can say for most more modern game engines, the nubs... only wanks use R for reload <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'> )

K here's the deal

When I choose "Mouse4" = thumb button as my "stunt" button in the game,
it doesn't do anything ingame

I tried setting mouse4 to "doubleclick" in Windows, set mouse 4 as "stunt" in the game... and
it would fire the guns <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'> lol... so that makes no sense at all

I just want to be able to use my thumb button <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'>, like for reloading, or in "The Specialists" game to perform a "stunt" action...

ok, switch it to mouse button 4 inwindows

now try binding it through the ingame menu

if that dosn't work

bind mouse4 stunt (or possibly +stunt)

bugger, again I am back in the lab so I can't just DL the mod

I dont know what actual command for stunt is. However if you go into the manual I believe that it is in there <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>
