i thought it only showed 99 on the graph/showfps but it could actually be more?

Actually, on occasion it can bump up to 100, or even 100.1 on the netgraph for a split second. But yes, the limit is 100fps.

In-game speeds are intended to be run at 60fps. Going faster than that tweaks with the building/healing/flying balance, and is why jetpackers can hover forever. And as far as I'm concerned, if you're playing at a given framecap, kicking that cap up (past 60fps anyway) to build faster is an exploit. That was not intended to happen. It'll be fixed in v1.1, yet another reason I can hardly wait for the first client-side update.

So if you leave your fps_max always set to a high number its ok? But if you decide to keep it lowered for consistent gameplay, but increase it to build (because NS rewards higher fps builders), then you consider that exploiting? Sorry, but that logic just doesn't make any sense at all.

exactly!

if you want to tell us that everyone with an ATI radeon 98000 is exploiting, i can buy that, but i doubt anyone will dare say such a thing, so we have to live with this bug until 1.1

Actually, I have an ATI 9800 and the frame rates still drop down to 50 fps in some places. It's very annoying. I *could* set my fps_max to 50 so that I had a constant 50 fps, but then my building would slow down. I would have to adjust my fps_max to 100 while building, but then some people would think I was exploiting. So, I will just leave it like it is and still build at 100 fps

Thats very interesting. With my GeForce 4 4400, I currently max out my fps at 85 (because thats my max monitor refresh rate) and never see it go below 85, ever. And this is at 1280x1024 resolution at 32 bit color with 2x AA and 8x aniso.

P.S. I have an AXP 2500 w/ 1 GB of PC2700 DDR RAM on an nForce2 board running WinXP SP1.

youll want to turn off vsync from display properties->advanced->geforce in windows control panel. that will detach the fps rate from the vertical refresh, and youll get better frames

But you will sacrifice visual quality, and for some, the trade off is not worth it

Don't listen to Zel without reading my VSYNC/fps guide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's important for your eyes to have a refresh rate higher than 60Hz, and if you're playing in game with fps maxxes at 30 most of the time, chences are you're running at 60Hz on your monitor. This is NOT good for yuor eyes OK!??!??!

Read the guide!

and if you're trying to tell me I can't tell the difference between 24fps and 100fps you are very much mistaken.

The brain CAN tell the difference between 60Hz and 100Hz, trust me!!
