<div class="IPBDescription">model by Espwilly, me is moddin it...</div> hey all.
When Del found that c-20 canister model the other day, i thought hhmmmmmm, how about using it as a learning process and seeing it all the way through.
Ok ive started work on the baby and its comming along quite well, the polycount was 1300. I have now shaven it down to 1072 polys.

so 1300 ---> 1072, do u guys think that is exceptible? or shall i go round trying to find a few more to shave off? what do u think?

also, i found a pic of a drawn C-20 canister rilfe on SC-Ghost. On the barrel of the rifle in the drawing has like holes in the barrel, now i was woundering if it was possible to make these holes with the model so far, but i cant think how to make them, also ive herd by using this way, it shaves down polys too? and gives a good effect.

also all i need to do now is learn to mesh.

heres a pic of the work so far....

    Poly Reductions -
Scope Mount... the L curve near the butt... it's like 3 boxes, you can shave it down to ONE box, with 3 stacks...or even just 2 stacks, which would carve a few poly...

    "Brackets" on the silencer -
4 boxes can be replaced with 1

    Silencer and additional "Rings -
he's got WAY too many stacks/different groups for this section... make it one Cylindar, with more stacks... change the stacks, not making a new Cylindar

Put the holes on the barrel on with the skin. If you were to model them properly you'd be adding probably around 500 polys. The only "acceptable" holes on the gun, I'd say, are the ones along the top of the body, and you don't really need those.

you dont shave polys off by sticking holes in things.. it just makes it more poly intense <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> and u can't cut in milkshape. U'd have to export to max cut then export back to ms3d or summing like that. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

ok, ive gone round again, and shaved it down to 986 polys!
    still looks good too.

OK, i think i will leave it like that now, unless any one has an idea or constructive critisim that will make me want to change it more.

Now heres the next step, Learning to Mesh! im looking for tuts atm in Modeling 101, cant realy see any. but if u guys have got a good tut. tell me or post a link.

    heres a pic....

Btw this aint MY model, i didnt make the thing from scratch. This model was made by Espwilly, all credits of the model go to him.

I am only moddifying it for use. and as a project for learning to model/mesh and skin.

oh yeah the programs i use to do this stuff is milkshape and 3d max 4.2 if thats an intrest to any one?!

i think that if you ripped that scope off, and replaced it with a carrying handle (a la m4a1/colt commando), it would be best. a scope has little use in CQB on a starship, so a carrying handle is more handy. just a suggestion.

nice idea. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm me likes, me is thinking of 2 versions of this baby.

    one with scope

    Or....

    one with carry haddle!

the carry haddle version will be worked on in the weekend! thanks for that idea <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

The model looks great with just the scope lopped off - I've done that with my version of espwilly's model. Maybe you could model a little sight business on there in its place - no need for a handle.
  • ArgOnatHArgOnatH Join Date: 2003-01-02 Member: 11720Members
lol more good ideas, ok these 2 idea will be worked on, on the weekend, when ive got time.

heres an update of the model so far. Ive grouped everything and the poly count is 963 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I think thats fine for optimization... dont want to take off too much detail. If you mesh it, ill try skinning.. i am not very good, but ill try...

tah, trust me the detail is still high.
also i may give it out for skinning i dont know or just go all the way and skin it myself. i'll have to see

a wee rant (its a suggestion, really!)...it should be in shades of black. black for some parts, grayish-dull-silver for other misc parts, and white for the ejection port cover. and make the hands black, cuz this is sc, not ns, with all do respect. sc is more black clothing/armor based. uber slick and cool, w00t!

all files were As-Is... i don't have any of the backfaces... sorry man

the holes on the end of the barrel part should be done with the skin to prevent the 90000 poly increase they would otherwise cause.
  • ArgOnatHArgOnatH Join Date: 2003-01-02 Member: 11720Members
ok tah guys. i think the scoped version will be LMG, handel version shootje.

problem ---> the making of the world model will be fine but the making of the PLAYER model will not because deleted faces are causing the problem. So i will probs have to fix that.

l8ers all im off to skool :/

you don't need to make the holes on the cooling mount, that's what skins are for <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yer if u mesh it i will try and skin it this could be good practice for me <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

bah i knew it would happen...first thing that went through peoples minds... "HEY lets reduce those polys" jeez...maybe not everyone that models wants to have low poly models guys =) even tho he shaved it down it still looks good tho...just wish this would happen every time...
  • NecromanZerNecromanZer Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 3407Members
    yah i agree - the scope looks wonderful so leave it on <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
  • ArgOnatHArgOnatH Join Date: 2003-01-02 Member: 11720Members
i still have the high poly model, nout changed on it.

    what were u 2 saying u want a scope on a shotty?!

what i meant was scope on LMG

    Carry handel on the shotty
  • SnO0PySnO0Py Join Date: 2003-02-27 Member: 14092Members
A carry handle? Well its your model, I'll probly just take it off when I download it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->. Unless it looks cool, I only like handles on M4s.

Also, for the shotty, you should take the clip off, lengthen the part infront of the clip (backwards, to cover the open hole the clip left), and load the shells where the arrow points (where the clip used to be).
  • ArgOnatHArgOnatH Join Date: 2003-01-02 Member: 11720Members
hmmm, i think thats the only way it would work in game. cuz it loads one shell at a time, plus if it was a clip loaded shotty the clip wud have to go on several times. :/
im gunna start work on teh mesh now <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
